  • We embark on a captivating train journey from Marrakech to Casablanca and immerse ourselves in the picturesque countryside. Join me in this Morocco Train Vlog as I explore the popular and renowned ONCF-operated train service, documenting my experience to share with you.
    My research indicated the safety, reliability, and affordability of Morocco train travel so I set out to verify these claims first-hand. This Morocco trip report captures my entire journey, from the comfortable first class seating to a tour of the train, including the toilets, and food options. Additionally, I provide insights into the process of purchasing tram tickets in Casablanca upon disembarking the train.
    Throughout the vlog, you'll see the cleanliness and comfort of the train, accompanied by pretty scenery that unfolds along the route. First-class seats offer plenty of space and legroom, ensuring a pleasant travel experience. As depicted in the Morocco travel Vlog, a well-stocked food cart awaits, offering an array of snacks and drinks.
    While my overall train journey from Marrakech to Casablanca was fantastic, I encountered a few challenges when purchasing tram tickets in Casablanca. Non-functioning (at least for us) ticket machines prolonged the process. However, I eventually discovered a kiosk that sold tickets.
    Undoubtedly, the train ride from Marrakech to Casablanca provides a delightful blend of comfort and stunning scenery, granting you a unique opportunity to witness the countryside and immerse yourself in Moroccan culture, as opposed to taking tourist transport.
    In the upcoming episodes of my Morocco series, I will join an Intrepid Tour, where our guide takes care of ticket purchasing and provides invaluable guidance, highlighting the convenience and advantages of such arrangements.
    If you're contemplating an adventure-filled trip to Morocco, my Morocco travel vlog series, chronicling my exploration of the country as part of an Intrepid Travel group will hopefully prove helpful for you, so please consider subscribing to keep up to date with new videos.
    Sit back, relax, and enjoy this Train Trip Report as we embark on an unforgettable train adventure through the heart of Morocco.

    Go to Tangier or Rabat on board the Al-Boraq. It's a high speed train (the same TGV France uses). It goes up to 320 km/h. You'll have a much better experience.

    Usually you shouldn't leave your place when the train is moving unless u want to use the toilet, the between doors are hard to open to protect kids from exiting to compartment as the out side doors are not automatic which leads some people to open them to smoke and just leave them open.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oooh I hadn't realied you weren't meant to leave your seat as I saw a lot of other people doing it, I thought it was okay. The difficult to open doors make so much sense now that you've said that about kids and the outer doors not being automatic and sometimes left open by smokers. Really helpful comment, thank you!

    Just for reference, lot of trains in morocco especially long journey ones do have designated buffet carriage . the fast train al borag has one. it operates between casa and tangier. so only some trains have the trolley. also even the trains that do have trolleys for drinks etc also have a buffet carriage usually at the end or the front

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ah, I'd not been able to locate the buffet car on this train, but as I went to explore it, the train became a lot more busy with people standing in the vestibules and corridors and I felt like I was becoming a nuisance squeezing through so I went back to my seat. Good to know these trains do have them though!

    Caroline, Interesting comparing your first class train trip in Morocco to "Tara and Nate's" (their video this week) first class train trip in the UK on the British Pullman vs Northern Belle. Tara and Nate include several meals. But you did not spend $1,000 each to ride and eat. I love traveling in German trains, US Amtrak not so much. I would love traveling in the UK via train. Canada has some amazing trains across the Rocky Mountains. Look forward to seeing most of Morocco on your channel. Cheers 🍰🍰🍷🍷🤠

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I've never tried trains in Germany... and the only ones I've used in the US were from Boston down to Providence and up to Salem - so more commuter services rather than long distance. It would be interesting to see the differences in quality and comfort. The long distance trains in the UK really vary in quality as there are so many different companies. The main company that operates London to Edinburgh was always very nice (as I used to use it to go home and visit my dad before he moved) but then if I think about GWR's service from London to Cornwall (not their sleeper, but their day service) it was horrible in comparison! If you go for one of the luxury trains like what Kara and Nate experienced though, it's a whole other kettle of fish. I've only ever been on one. I was a teenager travelling with a friend from York to Scarborough. Bought a standard ticket, jumped on the 1st train to arrive without realising you needed a special ticket. The conductor must have taken pity on us and said nothing about the ticket, but encouraged us to explore the train. For years I had no clue, but as an adult, one day the penny dropped and I realised there's no way we should have been allowed on that service with standard tickets!!! Pleased you're enjoying the Morocco series so far as it was almost 2 weeks out there so I have lots to share! Cheers 🍦🍦

    Good morning, I have just come across your videos. As an English learner, I have noticed that your English is really clear that one says that you are a reporter! Secondly, your level of speech rate should be C1 about listening ! B2 is upper intermediate level. I really appreciate your accent and your clear talk. I wach many American speaking tourists in Morocco as I was in way of British accent, but as an English learner, I see a quite differences bettewen the interesting watching or just discovering my country without paying attention to lestening skills. It happened that I can't understand none of American tourists people but yours is really as it is "accamedic" for learners. Keep your track, I am confident with your success. Thank you Mero 👋

      Let's you have this!
      Something of a paramount importance about "Francophonie" in Morocco. Morocco is not only a French speaking country, but it is a country where English has always been purposely and politically marginalized! While there is a set of a bilingual french speaking countries and even that English is not marginalized: Algeria, Mauritania, Tunisia, Libanon, Belgium and Switzerland..
      Before 1990, English has always been taught 5 years before acceding to university, and ESP, scientific and technical or business English has always been taught in all different higher studies during along university live's years! After such date, 1990, where many world changes occurred: The end of cold wear, beginning of globalization.. all single- language countries have switched from 7-8 to 12-14 years of English teaching before acceding to university ( from school stage) and, even these foresaid set of countries (bilingual french speaking) have increased its syllabus from 5 to 7-8 e.i. from beginning of middle school. And also their students still learn ESP (business English, Scientific ..) during their studies.
      In Morocco, we should have waited 16 years for a small tiny change to occur! switching only from 3 to online 4 years 😢. And ESP, professional English, is not being taught yet! (No English at any different branches of studies). This is a peculiar situation in the world 😥. We could understand such fact If Morocco was an Eastern country as Algeria is : If it marginalized the language of Western... Whereas Morocco is :
      - The first country which recognized USA
      - The first economical European partnership for decades
      - Is a pure capitalist country
      - had always played with great powers during centeries diplomatically speaking..
      So, due to all these facts all Morocco education successif ministres normally should have supposed such language which is being taught in Amazon forests!
      So what's the intrigue?
      In fact, Morocco is a sheer francophone forteresse 😢.
      They are no more 3 or 4 countries all over the world where English is only taught 3 or 4 years before acceding to university: Morocco, Guinea Conakry, RDC of Congo, and before that was Centre Africa. And even Guinea and RDC CONGO have lately increased their number of English teaching years up to 7-8 years.
      Result : They aren't more than 3 or 4 countries where university teachers can't speak English 😮..😔 This is Francophonie organization. (Even such qualifying doesn't exist in English dictionaries but only a set of french speaking countries!)
      shame to our officials and France !

    Great to see you in Morocco! Seen a few travel vloggers over there and the reviews have been mixed - all of them love the place but some found that the scammers and hustlers were too much! Interesting to see how your trip progresses and whether you have the same issues. No doubt about it though, beautiful country with lots of cool friendly people. Train prices sound good, especially for first class - you certainly wouldn't get that in England! Cool video to start off your trip, careful of those open door though - we want you to finish the series!

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It's a hard one to call, we're not sure if Marrakech is just worse for scammers and hustlers, or if it's that we had 'protection' from our Intrepid Guides, but any type of hustling, or feeling of being hustled happened at the end in Marrakech. But then we had a day and a half in Casablanca without a guide and it certainly didn't have the same feel. A lot of people say they don't rate Casablanca, and whilst I can certainly see it's downsides - traffic is terrible, everything is really sprawled out and it doesn't have much 'charm', we loved the lack of tourists and in turn how much more genuine our encounters felt with locals rather than the rehearsed one liners sellers in Marrakech have honed in over many years! Certainly not sponsored, but I do think a guided tour like an Intrepid one in Morocco is not a bad idea as it can cut out a lot of the nonsense!

    This train service is brilliant.
    I've done it many time from Mara To Casa and back, to catch a flight to Tunis every three months. Wonderful service, amazing scenery, friendly People from Marra and Casa. Bargain priced tickets.
    Don't forget your own toilet paper, hand wipes, and some decent food - not least so you can share it with your fellow passengers. Go for a compartment in 1st class, more cosy and sociable.
    The sense of being safely ensconced on the train whilst winding at high speed through the scorching and deserted sands is both poetic and haunting! The lushness of the agricultural land the closer one gets to Casa shows just how productive a country wonderful Maroc is.
    The newish station at Casa Voyageur is an impressive piece of Modernist-Indigenous architecture. Study the older building too. Watch out for dodgy and piratical taxi drivers hanging round the entrance.
    What more do you want? A chauffeur driven limo from city to city, ha!
    Advance the mighty Amazigh peoples of Maroc! African tribes-people, with quite a bit of European and Mediterranean genetics thrown in. What do you think happened to all the offspring of pretty south-Coast English women captured by Barbery pirates down the centuries.
    Advance this blessed kingdom and all its citizens! My heart belongs forever in Marrakesh, amidst some of the most noble and friendly and beautiful people on this planet. Some of whom no doubt are scoundrels - but show me a great city where that is not true. Vide the City of London!
    Love andrea

      Good question!
      I've never actually used the online booking system. I'm so old school, and my natural caution tells me to avoid online shopping anywhere, even London, Paris and New York. As a matter of political-economy, it is misguided to try to put people out of a job, in the name of disintermediation, or whatever trendy capitalist and free market ideology is the fad of the month.
      In fact, I'm sure the online ONCF system does NOT allow you to pick a seat. It's a Moroccan railway, not the RAM airline.
      I have a feeling that the ticket booking and payment regime, on line or at the station ticket-office, by default only understands a customer's request for First or Second class, as the English say.
      Our beloved Maroc, of all countries, needs an expanding demand for labour, and to put salary-monies in the hands of young women and men, in order to stimulate general demand in the economy.
      If you are in Marra, or Casa, or Tanger, or wherever, I suggest you go to the station, slap some dirhams on the counter, smile, and ask if you can book a particular seat face to face, so to speak.
      Mind you, our enterprising Amazigh sisters and brothers are not particularly devoted to respecting seat allocations in any case. All too bureaucratic and French and over-precise.
      Also, actual ticket sales have been known to exceed the number of real seats at peak hours ...... from time to time.
      Hope this helps.
      Anyway, the journey is stupendous, our Marra sisters and brothers are wonderful people, so whatever you do, grab a window seat whenever possible, and prepare to be astonished, and to chat with your fellow passengers and exchange tasty tit-bits of food.
      Advance Maroc!

    These are older trains that ONCF is changing, so you might find differences between cars because some are older than others, what would explain the ones with the corridor.
    The TGV is planned for that same route but it'll take sometime (2030 is the date mentioned officially for the world cup).
    Now for the people standing, it is an old trick used around the world by train companies to take more passengers. For a journey between casablanca and marrakech some people are only going a portion of the journey so the company sells non seated tickets, for that overlapping portion between 2 passengers. But what happens is that some of them take seats and leave the seated passengers with no seats. Also some people prefer to stand outside of the compartments when there are kids.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I never thought of ONCF swapping and changing carriages, but now that you've said it, it seems obvious! 2030 feels like it's a long way-away until you realise it's 6.5 years away... which is soon! It will be amazing when the fast line stretches even further as I bet it makes a difference to so many people!

      Oui. Mais je dois avouer que ce voyage a été filmé fin octobre, début novembre l'année dernière, il me faut juste un peu de temps pour monter les vidéos en plus de mon travail à plein temps. Je pense que j'aurais du mal en été avec la chaleur !

      I surprisingly didn't have much in the way of cous cous, I think only twice where it was a set meal and I didn't choose it... yet at home I eat cous cous loads. The Harria soup was something I had a fair few times towards the end of the trip. We didn't got to the Sahara desert on this trip as we visited it back in 2017 on a previous trip to Morocco, but we loved our time visiting it! Really interesting to learn that Morcco has inspired a lot of things in Saudi Arabia!

    for me personally i only ride in first class of the atlas train (the train in the video) if i'm not in the mood to hear crying/annoying children. since families tend to avoid first class.
    as for the boraq train (the high speed train) i ride first class when i have some work to do, i like the big table, power socket and the reclining seats.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't pick up on the fact that there were no children in first class, but trying to picture it, I can't recall seeing any so that's a very good point! I keep hearing about this high speed train. I never used it in the end, but I think I'll need to return to Morocco at some point to be able to experience it as it sounds amazing!

    This train is cheap, you got what you paid for, if you want a good train take the high speed train, compared to others African countries, this train is a luxury one.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah, that's so helpful for future trips, or maybe anyone reading these comments. We didn't use the tram again during our time in Casablanca as we like to walk most places and we departed from Casa Port which was much closer to our hotel... otherwise I'd have been kicking myself for not knowing this.

    That train ride was an adventure in itself. Oh my goodness with those open doors. How is it that those doors don't lock when the train is in motion. I'm glad you survived that experience.

    • @WhenAdventureKnox

      That's a good question. My only guess is that it must be such an old train that the health and safety wasn't so much of an issue back in those days?

    Try High speed TGV train , they are extending the line towards the south of Morocco right now ,

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Ooooh I didn't realise they were extending it. Just to Marrakech or even further? Even if it's to Marrakech, that will be quite the game changer! Our trip is over now (it takes me a while to edit these videos on top of my regular job) and we didn't get the chance to use the high speed one as we opted for the sleeper train to take us from Tangier to Marrakech... but we only have an excellent excuse to return and ride the high speed train next time!

    With such a difference between the two first class carriages, do you get to choose which carriage you seat in

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  ปีที่แล้ว

      I wasn't aware of anything that allowed me to choose seats during the online booking process as I would have chosen the compartments instead of the open carriage... and I'd have chosen seats next to each other instead of one in front of one another. I'm ntot sure if I missed it or if you need to book in person at a counter to be able to choose? Sorry to not be of much help.

      Hi, if you Google ONCF as that's the train company in Morocco. You can buy direct from them. :)

    HEY - DID YOU BOOK THE TICKETS IN ADVANCE OR JUST GET ON THE DAY ? THANK YOU 😊

    • @WhenAdventureKnox
      @WhenAdventureKnox  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      We booked them in advance, direct through ONCF's website so no need for 3rd party fees. The downside was we couldn't choose our seats. If you'll be in Morocco for a few weeks, it could be wise to book trains for a full trip on the day you arrive at a counter, this way it's not last minute, but you can maybe request certain seats?
