This video popped up when I was searching for how to balance signatures when you are between convenient numbers. I have a fanfic to bind that is precisely 400 pages. Since I wanted to balance the signatures as evenly as possible I settled with 7, 7, 8 x 9, 7, 7 for the 400 pages total. The pair of signatures on each outside edge are a single sheet thinner but overall the book should round nicely.
I usually pad out the back of the book with notes pages, author information, other series by the author, indexes or anything really to get my signatures equal. something about having them be uneven bothers me to no end.
This is great but this still means picking an arbitrary number in multiples of 4. Is there no way of deciding how thick a signature should be based on the paper weight or even better signature thickness?

Your a genius! That's so brilliant
if you are using 8.5x11 pages, are you cutting them from tabloid sheets or are you ok with warping?
Do you have any videos creating the 14 signature book ?
Thanks for sharing this video. Big help for me. How I can download pdf?

400+ pages? I'm just gonna tell them to take it to an editor.
