    There's a few factors. Your location and quality of the af head unit can also affect clarity. Oem units have better range in my opinion but I like the low profile antenna.

      I agree, especially for AM OEM seems to be better. But I also think it's because the engineers design that unit to work in that chassis.

    Antenna length is a function of wavelength...Those Shorty Antennas may look cool but has less gain then the stock full length...If you live in the fringe of reception, those Shorty Antennas may not work for you...Using an amplifier to boost reception also brings problems of also amplifying signal noise....So you have to decide whether looking cool is more important than functionality of FM Reception...Some people don't care because they seldom listen to the radio....

      Good point! I've also had good luck installing an aftermarket windshield amplified antenna and I've actually y adapted them, getting both antennas to work better. We do it for people with factory antennas but the aftermarket head unit, the AM reception degraded.

    on my 06 Yukon I always listen to XM so I tried the mod where people put the antenna along the top of the fender, reception was TERRIBLE! I left the antenna base their grounded to the inside of the fender and ran a wire under the windshield molding; reception is so, so but I don't really care since XM is my prime form of music. I also installed the escalade antenna delete cap. I guess I could put the rear escalade window with built in antenna if it was really important to me.

      I use a y-adaptor not where I put an aftermarket amplified antenna on the inside of the windshield and make it work with the factory antenna or stubby.

    Would I still need an antenna for Bluetooth on my radio?

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not for Bluetooth connectivity. Just make sure you run a new ground wire if you are installing an aftermarket head unit.

    Hi Anthony. Just tried to swap mine out, but the old one was so rusted the bolt snapped off inside the housing!
    Do you think it would be best to try and drill it out, or just replace the whole housing unit?
    Cheers
    Edit. I tried to do it before watching this video, so would have used some lubricant if I had.

  • @LeIeI0
    @LeIeI0 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Having an HD Tuner, head unit, would pick up AM & FM signal. I also put blue thread lock on mine. Can't have them burglars take that easy.

    • @AnthonyJ350
      @AnthonyJ350  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya I've had stock antennas pick up AM poorly because the vehicle wasn't grounded well or the antenna connection corroded.
