Here's what I got from this video:
Math makes you blind
Billy: *doing math homework*
*mom walks in*
Billy: ''I swear it's not what it looks like!''
Mom:''What are you doing? You'll go blind if you do that!''
The fact that we turn colorblind while we are concentrated is MIND BLOWING
I don't think you do. You just weren't focus on that. That's all it was, nothing more. Also it changes gradually, so of course you wouldn't notice it right away.
“if you do try, your muscles will tense ,
your pupils will dilate ,
and your heart rate will increase”
*thats just me during an exam*
Yeah, I can already tell that this effect allows us to read incomprehensible/horrendous cursive words, as well as really small types ones
Love cognitive science! :)
Wow I didn't know Psych2Go used to watch this 7 years ago
You both have great content!
How long does this take to edit geez
Great Video clip! Forgive me for chiming in, I am interested in your initial thoughts. Have you thought about - Schallingora Life Secrets Scheme (Have a quick look on google cant remember the place now)? It is a great exclusive product for unlocking the power of your mind minus the headache. Ive heard some unbelievable things about it and my cooworker after a lifetime of fighting got great success with it.
Ava actually not much using logic. It takes long to make the video itself
After watching this video, I started thinking about not only how our brain works, but also different things that happen during the process. I never really paid attention that our brain works in different ways which are called fast and slow. It was very interesting for me that the fully engagement of the slower thinking makes your brain turn almost colorblind. As you are concentrated to an object, which makes you think deeper, thus, your brain ignores other details around it. I did not notice this until after watching the video. In fact, when one sees an object, they can figure what the object is. Although for example the math problem, when you try to solve it, your brain travels from the fast thinking into slower thinking. Thank you for such interesting videos with some great examples.
The fact that we turn colorblind while we are concentrated is mind-blowing.
It amazed me that I could not notice the changes you have made when solving the problems. This was an exciting way to explain this topic.
Question for you guys :
Why do we have so many different voices, and how was our voice created ?
Vocal cords produce your voice through vibration when air from the lungs passes through them. Everyone has different vocal cord, just like every other part of the body we have different.
I spent 3 days in jail because the police station clerk read my pistol permit as a "B" instead of "13" so later that night I was arrested for possession of an unregistered firearm... Nobody had that serial number, it didn't exist.
@@garfield4154 No it's true. If you write 1 and 3 close together then some people see it as letter B. I wish it wasn't true and the court still made me pay a $500 fine with it still on my record: improper transportation of a firearm. I bought the handgun that same morning that I was arrested!
This is all from a book called Thinking fast and slow by Daniel Kahneman:)
*lying on floor chanting methodically*C'mon brain, think of things! C'mon brain think of things! C'mon brain be so smart!
I have a burning question. I'm an AP Psychology teacher, and there are a ton of resources to help students understand the differences between neurotransmitters. However, my question is: Can you please create one of these amazing short videos that give so much information to break down the differences between the dominant neurotransmitters described in so many Intro to Psych textbooks?
If I could find a way to get them to understand them more quickly without burning so much class time, that would be amazing. My class is open to all, so many students don't need the guided support. But, many of my students are taking AP level courses for the first time, and what better class then AP Psychology to give it a go? I've used your videos in a number of ways over the years, and they are extremely helpful, so can you create one for the neurotransmitters?
Thanks! I hope you can, but if not, keep making these fun educational videos!
For all those who find the BAT and BALL problem confusing:
1) The bat costs 1 dollar more than the ball.
2) Everything has to cost 1.10 dollars.
A) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 0 cents. = 1.00 dollars
- 1) is fulfilled - 2) is not, because the result is not 1.10 dollars
B) The bat costs 1.00 dollar and the ball costs 10 cents = 1.10 dollars
- 1) is not fulfilled because the difference is 0.90 dollars - 2) is fulfilled
We need to find a way to add 10 cents to THE DIFFERENCE without compromising THE RESULT of B).
The only way is to take OUT 5 cents from the ball and put them INTO the price of the bat. In this way we have:
C) The bat costs 1.05 dollars and the ball costs 5 cents. = 1.10 dollars
- 1) is fulfilled - 2) is fulfilled
Of course, C is the ONLY correct result, B is the result of fast thinking for most people, and A...that should not even be an answer :)
I think of it like this:
A bat and a ball costs 1.10$
Bat+Ball=1.10$
The Bat costs 1 Dollar more than the Ball
Bat=1$+Ball
So, (1$+Ball)+Ball=1.10$
1$+2Ball=1.10$
2Ball=0.10$
Ball=0.05$
Please answer this question, why is it that when we have intense emotions we can actually feel it on our chest more specifically the heart
The brain produces hormones and stuff during emotive bursts, and the heart is affected by said hormones. Not to mention that your brain doesn't have sensory nerves like in your hands and various other non-brain parts.
It amazes me how the brain technically studies itself.
Oh and don't forget...
The brain literally named itself...
I'll let that sink in for a bit...
;)
ASAPscience taught me more than school ever did
Excellent Product!! Couldn't get any better than twitter.com/382b288b8e8327261/status/742668391975096320?idpid=1890ff8b-73ba-4a63-96b2-356717ad8c53 , great job ON. I've gone thru 2 tubs and have gained 20lbs of muscle. Its mixes good and thanks for the updated scoop, way easier to add to a shaker now. Brain Tricks - This Is How Your Brain Works
That means, Really... ( even though there should be a question mark there, not ellipses).
I thought wash soup and eat soap. Thanks for putting me on the poison control watch list
Bro my mind devided and multiplied those card numbers.
It's strange how the the brain doesn't register the second 'the' after the first 'the'....
READ THE SENTENCE AGAIN
i was very confused there and had to read the sentence a few times lol
3:55 I have an addiction to soup didn't get me there
Me: * sees wash*
My brain:SOUP
Me :*sees eat*
My brain: MORE SOUP
What;s wrong with eating soap?
Normal soap like we use to wash our hands or when showering shouldn't be much harmfull, though it would make you nauseous and give you diarrhea. But strong soap, like detergents, are caustic and will burn the surfaces of your gastrointestinal tract. Don't do it!!!!
i actually read it A 13 C because of the gab. it was harder for me to see the 'B' than the 13
I also read that A 13 C! After saying that it was B i noticed that it could be B also
Ngl you got me good with Moses there 🤣
3:28 funny how I imagined a lady about to rob a bank
I saw A13C.....
It isn't from Love stage (don't even know what it is), it's Shinobu from... Huh.... Dont remember the anime xD
Thx even so :')
I've looked at so many illusion over my life I feel like I've trained my brain to see both images in these sorts of things. Brains are neat.
There is a very similar book that I am reading at the moment. It is called Thinking, Fast and Slow. I highly recommend it! 😁
Edit: I just realised and got to the point in the video where he mentions this book. Srry yall.
If science in school was like this I'd actually like it and be interested
i probably would have graduated i have learned more on my own and been interested in it more than school ever did for me
wait, I'm still figuring out how the ball costs 5cents.
Well, that is exactly it. If the ball was 10cents and the bat was 1$ more, the bat would be 1$ 10cents, and the combined price would be 1$ 20cents.
ball=x, bat =1.00+x. ball + bat=1.10 --> 1+2x=1.10 --> 2x=0.10 --> x= 0.05
if the bat is a dollar more than a 10c ball, then you must assume that the ball is 5c and the bat is just $1 more then 5c
That took me 15min. and I still wasn't getting it till I read the above. And I score very high on IQ tests… Upward of 160. I blame the english language! :)
“You’ll see soup”
**shows noodles**
3:23 I actually did read it as A13C for the first time I’m weird I guess
Do you need an ark? I NOAH guy!
Yes because god said it to him because it rain for many many days it rain because god was disappointed in the way that other people were being bad and he waited thousands of days okay and he is not just a man,guy etc. he saved all the animals and loved him so read the bible so you will understand okay Mr./Mrs./Ms Ali Ahmed
@@fun_mariefe9374 Why don't you ever stay in school? You have so many grammatical errors. Lol
3:58 soaps that look like that smell the best 10 times out of 10.
I didn't associate "Ann approached the bank" with anything, I didn't picture anything either.....
Legendarymark112 because you where already stunned by his first explenation you couldn't follow his explenation any more.
Legendarymark112 It's probably because your brain thinks in words and numbers. That's another thing that changes from person to person. Some people visualize something with context to help better understand. While others take the numbers and letters given and that helps them better understand. And why people think differently depends on which side of their brain is dominant. If you saw pictures or associated the text with something you have seen, your right brain is dominant, whereas if you just used the words and letters given to you, your left brain is dominant. :) does this help?
At 3:20 I actually saw A13C and was like dafuq!
Me too. I also interpreted "bank" in the "river bank" sense. I guess the word "approached" is what did it for me. No one approaches a money bank, they go to the bank.
seth094978 thats a lie anybody who goes to the bank have to approach the bank before they go in
Dgilly17 Yes, I know, I know, but I was trying to explain how I think, not be totally literal. Give me a break. I didn't lie about what I thought.
There's a third way of how the brain works: Not Thinking
Admiral Hood that’s true. One is always thinking, they’re just not always thinking of the right thing.

Other brains: It's 3D.

Oh OK, so 19 x 26 is equal to... um, well if we do this then we should get the answer, how about we-
-oh nvm the video is already over.
I guessed on the spot 480 and the answer is 494. I’m really good at guessing.
That's a great video - very similar to videos we post on Happiness and Thoughts. Thanks for sharing guys!
Good explanation. what softwares do you use for editing and animations?
This video took me back to Physics class. I remember that we were on the chapter about light, and we talked about the ways the brain perceives and interprets the information it receives from our eyes when we see things, which is actually the light that is reflected from other obejcts towards our eyes.
actually i didnt notice that the moses arch one was wrong because i don't know shit about religion
Igna Powers well it actually isn't, if you don't care to learn something and would rather put your time into something else, how is that sad? if you would rather learn spanish than french, is that also sad?
Want to reply that I agree, but scared that my Google plus will be filled with replies for years to come of religious arguments bc they always need to justify their bs
First of all I never said I was Christian. Second, I just think that is common sense to know a little bit about other cultures, beliefs, and ways of life. Shouldn't you know that to decide what you want to believe in and value? I apologize if I came off as rude or "ignorant" with that comment. My native language isn't English so I didn't know that could be seen as a negative thing to say.
them: wash?
me: soap!
them: eat?
me: ....soap?
2:44 That question isn't fair to people like me who aren't religious
Yeah, but Noah's Ark is a commonly known story, even with NON-religious people like myself, but I see where you're coming from.
Yeah you don't have to be religious to know popular stories in certain religions.. Jesus is known worldwide regardless of religious orientation (or lack thereof). I am not a believer but I do know the stories of Noah and Moses. You do have a bit of a point though. There could be people who don't know that Bible tale.. but I think ASAP got their point across anyway.
Jasmine London That question is fair to the people like me who are religious
How do you record this this video?
Would you like to make a video about that for us? It will help people with same interest to make educational content.
The last one I thought "Wash soup." I don't know why... Actually, maybe it's because I'm hungry.

Well done! Thanks for sharing
After the second example I knew this video was based off of thinking fast and slow. Great book l, highly reccomend!
This video not only showed how the brain works, but also open my eyes to multiple different things that happen. I never really paid attention to the fact that our brain works in two different ways and never thought it would be called fast and slow. It amazed me when the video showed that your brain almost turns colorblind when you fully engage system 2 (the slower thinking). Once your brain starts to think harder you are so concentrated you block out all the other detail around it. This is something I never realized until after watching this video and realizing that really happens. Its almost like your mind gets sucked in you blur out everything else. Its crazy how fast you can realize if a person is a girl or boy and it her or she has blond or brown hair, and when it comes to a math problem your brain immediately recognizes it’s a math problems, but when you go to do it your brain changes in to slow thinking to figure it out. I found this video very interesting especially the examples they showed that proved the brain works the way it does.
At 3:31 ....I did not imagine a woman with money I imagined her wearing a ski mask, carrying a gun and smoking a cigarette and then yelling "everyone get down
Me: Brain, stop falling for these tricks

I admire this channel it doesn't always give us information that we can use in our daily lives but it definitely gives me a better perspective.
The Noah one got me lmao
Yes, I noticed that the numbers and colours changed.
Try asking someone to quickly name what a cow drinks. Their fast-thinking brain will immediately make them say milk.
Dude this video was amazing😂😂
Everyone: wash soap
My last 2 brain cells: wash soup
when i saw the number change i thought those were answer and i was getting them wrong
It was super funny, because I was still adding one to each of the digits when he stopped, then I saw it said add three XD

System 1 takes over all the time for me. For example I struggled a little to add the numbers and I noticed immediately the numbers were different and the colors changed on the writing. I wonder why.
You should have written "Maths included in video" in thumbnail so I wouldn't click in the first place. NVM, I didn't even solve anything
The brain is truly remarkable. It’s been functioning 24/7 since we were born and only stops when we take tests.
