- "Sam & Max are back in the new game Sam & Max Freelance Police, coming from LucasArts sometime in May 2004. This is the same trailer released at E3, but now at twice the resolution for extra clarity and comedy goodness."
CANCELLED! Instead, look forward to the new game respectfully being made by Telltale.

The most funny thing about this cancelled game is that in Telltale's Sam and Max season 1 there's a cardboard box that reads when this game was cancelled and Sam even says "I remember that case.. particulary gruesome" also in Season 1 episode 2 during Myra's interview Max will tell an anecdote that ends with him screaming "why won't you die!"
You're almost right. It's actually the date that this game was abruptly cancelled.
I think they also joked about there being a demo of the game in the second season when they go to easter island in the lost items box

Remember people, this was supposed to be a follow-up to Hit the Road, the reason they don't sound right to you is because you're hearing their voices after years of the Telltale actors.
Weird that they had 3 different va's 1. The Lucas arts voices, 2. The freelance police animated series voices, and 3.the telltale episodic voices
Yeah, it sounded like the Hit the Road guys to me. Personally, I would have preferred the cartoon VAs (especially for Sam), but I still like the TellTale actors’ interpretations of the characters.

Dude, I almost forgot how Sam sounded before, I don't really hate the current voice but this is the true voice for Sam in my opinion.

I met Bill Farmer (Sam), and I told him I'm sorry this game was cancelled. He was so modest; though he expressed disappointment, he said, "Well! That's show business!"
Still, it's a goddamn shame this was canned. This was when I stopped supporting LucasArts... until the Monkey Island special editions.

@@doraeguyakaneddie6586 Actually it was cancelled because LucasArts decided that there was no longer a market for point-and-click adventure games. Obviously, Telltale would emerge and go on to prove otherwise.

Telltale's version of Sam and Max is brilliant. Lucasarts original "Hit the Road" was also brilliant. Telltale did a great job of capturing the orignial style of Lucasarts classic, and the humour from Steve Purcell's comics. This one would have been good. But it led to somthing probably even better!
I wish to see a full-length animated movie... like from Pixar... you know - Steve Purcell, the creator of those, is an employee of that company.
+AlexZebol He's said before that Sam & Max's distinct sense of humor wouldn't fit in with the style and motifs of most other Pixar movies. Hopefully something Sam & Max comes before the 30th anniversary in 2017!

Wallice and Gromit are clay animated character's. And Sam and Max were comic character's. It's great to see that they appeared in 3d game's. And what do you mean, you don't like Sam and Max in 3d. They look awsome. Also how did Tell Tales Games got the right's from Aardman to make a Wallace and Gromit game.

The voices are very conflicting. I love them, but I think the Telltale Games voices fit the characters more. Eh, maybe it's because Telltale was my first exposure to the series, which just makes a bias of the characters' voices. Who knows?
the TTG voices were kind of grating. Sam was fine but Max… i don’t know why but Max sounds like nails on a chalkboard.
I always thought Dave Boat's voice is pretty close to William Kasten's so I don't really mind it as much. Dave Nowlin's also my favorite Sam but I still like Bill Farmer and Harvey Atkin.

It’s a shame this game never came to be, but also....at least the next Sam and Max game was never at risk of having Escape from Monkey Island-esque controls
I actually do like the newer games. I mean old Sam and Max holds a special place in my heart but the newer episodes on Xbox Live, or on Playstation Store and Steam are actually not bad at all. I mean the voice actors are a little different but the comedy is very much like adult humor and the jokes cater more to adults. It was a nice transition and it still holds up pretty well. Regardless of Lucasarts cancelling their original project.

…actually i kind of like this Max more. i love his exaggerated sharp teeth. just such a cool look. i think TTG Max is the worst incarnation of Max in every way, so maybe i’m biased. his expressions are so weird, instead of making his eyes expressive, they made his forehead crease. they reduced his personality to “lol he’s so QUIRKY and CRAZY” and his voice... ew. he became INSANELY annoying really fast. uh, but that’s just me.

it is just you. i looked forward to this game too, but there's no need to bash the telltale games so much. max's eccentricity is overplayed in those games, sure, but he still has most of his core character traits. i didn't see a problem with his voice actor, in fact, though i played hit the road before the other games, i preferred the less nasally sounding voices of the newer duo.
i do have to agree with you on the forehead crease thing, though. it looks weird. also, this max model does have its uncanny charms lol

The voices don't sound right to me. No offence to the guy's but Sam sounds like a 1940's Detective. Like the guy who says "He's looking at you kid"

Tri ehhhhh but Sam's supposed to resemble a film noir detective, though. This voice would fit a 1940s detective but not a 1940s film noir detective.

I made this Sam and Max video for LucasArts in 2004. This was done in a few days as a test. The game was not completed at LucasArts.
I think I saw this when I was a kid and got excited.
It was truley a blessing disguised as a curse.

The cancellation of this game caused the programmers to leave Lucasarts on mass and form there own company. They made three seasons Of Sam & Max and included them in their Poker Night series, as well as some other fine games.

@Westygalery This was what the voice was originally. Incase you didn't read the description, this trailer was released in May 2004, and used the same voice actor for Sam as in the original Lucasarts adventure game.

Actually lucasarts got some new marketing people that said that the adventure market in Europe died so they cancelled it even though the game was almost finished.
