If anyone is curious, I'm pretty sure what we're hearing at 3:57 in that subtle 'tin-y' sound is a technique called phase cancellation. What Kaytranada probably did was cut a sample of the drum intro at the beginning of the original song (before violins came in, drums only), duplicated it on top of the song during a fuller part of the song (drums + violins), and phase-flipped the sampled drum track, which 'eliminates' it from the track, which lets you "solo" the violins to hear them by themselves where in reality you don't hear the violins by themselves at all in Solange's original version. The leftovers from that process is that subtle tin-y sound. Then Kaytranada can work his magic and make his own percussion track! Saw him in Boston last night and seeing him again in Boston tonight. Man's a legend.
