Completing the kitchen by adding a sink

I think the sinks in Iran and in every home are narrow and shallow. More sinks are easier to wash, and the deeper and larger the capacity of the sink, the better, since this is where we wash and chop vegetables and food, besides dishes. Is it because of drainage? I have a colander in the sink, but it is unsanitary. Doesn't Iran regularly disinfect dishes, etc.?
