4:14 That's a great video to get started and I just did the OPPOSITE of your most natural tip: using a photo showing your human! Sorry, I have to protect my privacy as the Chameleon SUPERHERO 🤣
Hi, recently discovered your channel. Thanks for putting out helpful content. Please could you answer two of my questions: Can I write the same article on Medium and on my own blog and does it affect in a bad way? Is it difficult to get readers in the beginning of the journey (is medium too competitive as twitter)? Does the algorithm show initial articles to people scrolling on the platform? Thank you for your time:)
Awesome! You're very welcome. As for your questions: 1. Yes, you can re-post content -- it won't affect Medium's algorithm. 2. And, yes. It can be difficult at first as your stories won't show up on many readers' homepage. I would recommend applying to these 2 publications to help get more exposure on your articles: (1) Illumination (2) About Me stories I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
Articles can be as long or as short as you'd like. But, generally, I aim for 500 - 2000 words. And, yes, they accept fiction, poetry, or anything else you'd like to write about. 🙂🙌
Thank you for the info.. I didn’t know how to find these publications. But as I am following your steps, it is now NOT that simple as replying with a comment.. you really have to read everything in that article l and fill out a form to apply. Still very simple, but just an update here. Today is November 28th, 2023
Oh, I know. 😅 Some of the publications could definitely do a better job of making it easy to apply. I also realize many of the publication guidelines may have changed since making this video. Perhaps it's worth filming again. I appreciate the update! 🙂🙌
Cheers for the video Hudson particularly the part re signing up to that New Writers Welcome group. I took a few screenshot's of those pages as I can't access any more stories for a while while a free member. I'm sure I will upgrade, with time. Been way too OTT with editing my first two articles I won't say just how long I spent on them. OCD at its finest! I know they are way too long to start with but will leave them and move on! As for your follow for follow idea, eh, I think I will refrain for now, try to get organic reach. I know what it's like to get my TH-cam channel to gain traction... 100 subs feels like nothing in comparison to 1000 😳 Speaking of which, I see you're almost there! Good going mate! 😁 Going back to the follow for follow thing... I'm not fond of it, definitely not if they are just randoms whose content you know you won't read and vice versa, even if they did it wouldn't make a difference for you money wise if they aren't paying members. Having said that I'm all for mindful networking. Just watched another video from a Medium writer who said that making connections with writers "on your level" is just as important as building relationships with "higher up" people. If you become genuine friends, you may one day both be able to give each other a leg up. I personally won't do the follow for follow thing, YET, but I understand if people think "screw it, I put so many hours in to each article, I deserve compensation". Each to their own 🙂 Now besides paragraphing I won't spent forever again editing this post. Good to let it flow sometimes! Actually my plan is to do just that. Start blogging on my (still free!) Wix website, write freely on there on one particular niche while being a bit more rigid and proper with Medium. With time I hope that my website will start gaining views, then I will switcheroo... spend more time on my own blog than medium. That's my current game plan 😎 This message is very long! I may copy and delete it later... edit it in to a blog post of its own. Why not 😄 My views on follow for follow - New blog topic idea ✅ Best of luck with both your TH-cam and Medium accounts 🙂
Hehe, that is a very common trait amongst great writers, so embrace it! 😆💪 And, I totally agree with you regarding following-for-follow method. I'm not a huge fan myself, but when it comes to getting monetized as fast as possible, I look at it as a necessary evil, so to speak. I think those are some great plans and hope they results in many engaged readers for you. All the best and I appreciate your support. 😇🙏
I've recently set up my Stripe account and partner programs, and I have a few questions for you: 1. As a non-US resident, I'm unsure about the tax information I need to provide. Will I need to pay taxes on my earnings, even though I've already completed and submitted all required details? 2. I'm confused about the difference between my publication account and my personal member account. Are they connected, since I publish my stories under my own publication name within the publication account I just set up? If possible, I'd appreciate discussing these questions further via email to ensure I have a smooth experience using Medium. 😊
@@queen_miles9751 Here are my best answers to your questions: 1. I don't know much about taxes. So, I would recommend reaching out to Medium support. You can submit a support request, here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us 2. On Medium, you can either self-publish or publish through a publication. Both will show up on your profile. This video explains the differences in further detail: th-cam.com/video/UsLkGWTCjQI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8tYzk_wlOypuqUdf 3. I would start writing on your own profile and submit your stories to publications to help them get more views I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
Sure! I can add that into one of my future videos. But, essentially, yes. You can either search for publications based on your interest or look at the publications popular stories are posted in. Personally, if a story catches my eye, I always go to the publication and check out if it's worth applying to. 🙂👏
So I wanted to apply for the partner program but I’m completely lost as to what I have to answer to some of the questions. It’s like if I needed to have a company to be part of the partner program. I’m so lost. Could you do a step by step tutorial on how to get the partner program?
I go over the general process in this video: th-cam.com/video/53x1J3Ol0cQ/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UkZ2jM24YL4mHOEq But, I can add a more in-depth tutorial to my list of videos. 🙂✅
There is now an application form that asks if you are a paid Medium member. I would pay, but after many months of paying previously, I have 28 followers. It also wants you to link an article you'd like to submit. So writing the introduction post might be the best way to do this?
Medium made some changes, in August of 2023. So, unfortunately, you now need to be a paying Medium member to earn from the Medium Partner Program. In terms of applying to New Writers Welcome, they want to see the story you'd like to submit. So, yes, you can either write your introduction story. Or, a story on anything else. 🙂🙌
Do I have to write a Welcome post in order to apply to the publication of New writers welcome? I have already 2 published posts from the past, can I still apply? The video is supper usfull, thank you so much!
Great video, I appreciate the breakdown. I have about 600 blog posts that I've put an incredible amount of work into. Is it possible to repurpose these articles in a legitimate way (not being a spammer about it) and post them on Medium, or is there some kind of policy against this?
@@hudsonrenniewrites Hi Medium, what about if you use ai writing tools like SEO writing and any other tools and paraphrase your into your own words. would that be ok? thanks
Very useful video! Glad you created it. Some questions: 1. Suppose its my 1st or 2nd day on Medium. I want to get curated or distributed. Should I publish a couple things on my own feed/profile/homepage and hope-for-the-best? OR-- should I immediately write something and submit to a publication? If I should send to a publication right away, can I do that if I don't have my first 100 followers yet? 2. (Anytime)- if I write something and I don't submit it to a publication...if it just lives-on-my-profile-or-homepage, can I ever: A) Use hyphens like I just did, and also, B) Can we writers ever use slang? i.e..."Wuz goin' Dowwn, Bro?" C) Can we be Informal? i.e....say/post "Wanna" instead of "want to"? If yes to any of these 3, could THAT ever be picked-up for distribution or would it automatically be ignored? I realize that if we submit to a publication, we need to go "play by their rules". Fair enough. No problem there. But what about "our own" stuff? The idea is NOT to do "bad grammar". It IS simply wanting to "have our own Voice" in a more relaxed, 1-on-1, informal and conversational tone. Any info appreciated. Thanks!
Thank you! In terms of your first few articles, I would recommend writing at least one just to have on your profile before submitting to publications. It's always a great idea to write a short article introducing yourself. And then you can start submitting to publications -- but there's no follower requirement to start applying/submitting to publications. As for expressing yourself in your own voice, that's totally up to you -- and what makes writing fun. You can definitely use slang words and take creative liberties with the formatting. Each publication has their own preferences, so it's just about finding ones that fit your style. Or, you can always just publish on your profile and write exactly how you'd like. I've seen writers be successful with many different styles, so have fun with it. I hope that helps! 🙂👏🙏
Thnx Thnx Rennie, I have surely created my profile with your guidance..Wish I could subscribe a zillion times😊 However my question is, my country of residence isn't among the countries eligible for the partner program, yet I would like to apply. How do I go about this?
Awesome! That's great to hear. So, unfortunately, until your country is approved, you can't join the Medium Partner Program. I've heard of writers using VPNs or connecting to a friend/famil member's banking information, but to honest, I can't provide any firsthand information. 😢I hope they approve your country soon, though! In the meantime, you can still write and build a following on the platform. 🙂🙌
hi Hudson....I'm a total beginner here this video helps me a lot THANK YOU SO MUCH....but there's something i wanna ask... If I write an article and I scheduled it for like next time or for next week but now i suddenly want that to publish right away where i'm gonna find that article so that i can publish today instead of next week.....do i need to write again?
That's great to hear! And, if you go to your stories and then select edit, you'll be able to adjust the publishing date. In your story composer, there should be a green button that says 'scheduled' or 'publish'. If you click on it, you'll be able to adjust the date or publish immediately from the publishing screen. 🙂🙌
Hmmm, yeah, it's generally not good for SEO to re-post the exact same content. But, then again, Medium pay is based on Member Read Time, so traffic likely won't come from organic search anyway. 🤔 You can always adjust the headline/introduction slightly when re-posting to avoid duplicate content flags by Google. 🙂🙌
Hudson, you can no longer drop a comment asking to write for the 'writers welcome publication' as the comments are now closed. Because you can't ask them, when you try to 'add to publication' the list is empty. Instead there was a form that I filled in, and they requested a link to the draft instead which I have given them. Is this just the new way they do it, or have I missed something? Please help!
Yes, they've updated their guidelines since I made this video. Once they approve you as a writer, you'll see the publication pop up in your story composer. But, it can take a few weeks for them to approve you. 🙂🙌
Hi Hudson, I want to start writing and set up my profile. I went to the website and was then prompted to download the app. I did that, but now I have been asked to start a free trial' for 7 days. Do I have to accept this before going forward. I wouldn't be able to take the paid subscription within 7 seven days due to the replacement of my credit card, which is not ready as yet.
To write and earn money on Medium, you need to be a paying member. But, if you want to explore the platform before signing up, you can just sign up for a free account. In my experience, it's also much easier to navigate Medium on a desktop computer, if you have access to one. I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
Hello Hudson, I need some help. I have some old stories from 2015. I want to update them since they are outdated. I am planning on using medium again. How can i update the old stories? I’m also not sure how to get seen. Can you help?
If they're from 2015, I would repost them. You can just copy and paste the old stories into the story composer and republish them. As for gettting seen, you can always submit to publications to increase the reach of your stories. Illumination is a great one to start with as they publish articles on any topic. You can apply to become a writer, here: digitalmehmet.com/contact/ I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
I'm living in Germany, but I am Latinamerican, I'm not paying taxes yet since I'm under especial cases of remuneration employ... Would that be a problem?
Hmmm, that's a good question. 🤔 I would send a request to Medium support -- they'll be able to answer it for you. You can submit a request, here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us/requests/new 🙂🙌
Hello! As a very beginner, I had few questions about the topics that have more followers or get more views? Secondly I am from Pakistan and our country doesn't support stripe. How should I start? and third and last thing, should we consider getting help with SEO to rank on top or first page? if yes then which websites are useful to find key words and key tags? Your reply will be appreciated.
So, if you search for any topic from your Medium homepage, you'll be able to see how many followers it has. In terms of where you live, Medium is planning to open up the MPP to Pakistan but they haven't offered a specific timeframe yet. You can always start writing anyway, but you won't be able to get paid yet. 😢 And, in terms of SEO, to be honest, it's not something I focus on so I'm not the resource. But, I have found the Google Adwords Keyword planner to be helpful! It's free to sign up for and shows you high search volume words/phrases. I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
@@hudsonrenniewrites thanks. Just facing my fear to write my first blog right now. I hope i will cope up with it. Anyways really grateful for your reply.
@@mehrozeazeem48 That's a very common fear, so you're not alone. My advice is to just hit publish! There's no way around it but practice. Eventually, it will become second nature and you'll be grateful for your past self. ☺👏
Hello! I hope everyone is fine. Thank you very much for your video. I really appreciated your effort. May you help us by answering this question here, please? 1- I want to start writing on Medium but I am not in the eligible country at moment. However, I have Stripe Account and Overseas Identification. I meant, I am out of the country. Can I still be able to monetize my content, please? 2- I have posted something regarding to affiliate marketing as my first post and I am planning to write my presentation as you said. My blog on Medium is eligible for partner program. 3- How do I apply for partner program. Can you explain us in detail, please? 4- How does Medium knows that the article was generated by AI without plagiarism? 5- Why do I have to post my content to"" publication side" ? ( I don't understand how it works) Thank you very much!
That's great to hear! As for your questions: 1. If you have access to a Stripe account, you should be ok to apply for the Partner Program 2. I think that's really smart -- if you can't join the Partner Program, you can always use affiliate marketing to monetize your page. I actually have a video on that very topic coming out next week. 3. If you click on your profile image at the top right-hand corner of your screen and then 'Partner Program', you should be able to apply from there. If you're still having trouble, let me know! I can make a video on it. 4. Medium uses an AI detector, but to be honest, they don't really protect against copyright, unfortunately. 😬 5. You don't! Submitting to publications are helpful for getting more views, but you can also simply hit 'publish' and your story will show up on your profile. You can think of publications like submitting an article to a magazine -- it helps with exposure but you can also self-publish. I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
Nice Video, but the New Writers publication only accepts wtories on a limited number of topics. according to their requirements. Any other thoughts on finding other publications?
Thank you! And ah, that's great to know. What I've found most helpful is to look at what publications large writers are submitting to. Also, if you type 'latest' at the end of any publication's URL you'll see how many followers it has. More followers isn't necessarily better but it gives you a great idea of how popular the publication is. I hope that helps! 🙂👏🙏
Yeah, totally. If you highlight any of the text on a story, you can leave a 'private note' in which only you and that writer can see. I've had people reach out to me that way before. 🙂🙌
well I tried to follow these instructions, I'll have to try again about the link at the bottom, I don't really get that. I checked out the "New writers welcome" page, but AI writing seems to ruffle their feathers, so I need alternatives, I guess.
Ah, yes! A.I. has shaken things up for Medium. Are you growing a faceless channel? Or will you have your name on it? Depending on which one, I have a few suggestion for you. 🙂👏🙏
It's not against Medium's guidelines. But, in my opinion, it's not very effective. I would focus on leaving genuine comments instead and hoping people feel compelled to check out your profile. 🙌
hey buddy, think you have to be a paying Medium subscriber before you can join the New Writers Publication, am I correct? Coz I tried it and I cannot proceed coz Im not a paying subscriber yet
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks for letting me know! 🙂👏🙏 If you really enjoy writing, I would recommend signing up. It’s not too expensive compared to hosting your own blog - and for me, I’m always more invested in something when I have to pay even just a little bit. 💪👏
Hy, Glad to find your channel. Actually i started writing articles on medium and i dont have any followers right now that's why i decided to write for this " New writers welcome" publication. Bu i couldn't apply for this becaise it is a member only story. I can't write a comment to become a new writer😔 What should i do now ? Kindly guide me.
If you can afford it, I would recommend becoming a Medium member as it makes everything easier -- plus, you can join the Medium Partner Program and get paid for your writing. But for now, here's a friend link so you can access the article without being a member: 😇👇 hmedium.com/new-writers-welcome/write-for-new-writers-4bd4df47d7bf?sk=v2%2F0866a9c4-2d88-4b87-8a1e-f46241604d54
@@hudsonrenniewrites sorry I am asking for more help . I read that article thoroughly and according to it, they are asking new writers to submit a draft article to become a member. But in order to do that , I have to go through the submission guidelines and again it's a member only story . Can you please send me that too? So that I can write an article according to those guidelines otherwise my draft will be rejected .😔 I will be really thankful to you.

I just tried posting on Medium and a red banner came up saying something about rules, and now I can’t post. Is this because I’m not paying money to subscribe to Medium? Is this a paywall that doesn’t allow non-paying members to participate?
Hmmmm, what does the banner say? 🤔💭To be honest, I haven't heard of that before but I know Medium is implementing some new automation methods to prevent certain types of content. Perhaps something in your story triggered a flag. 🚩
Ah, yes. Three things I've found really helpful regarding read ratio are: 1. Not overpromising in the headline 2. Re-affirming the promise of the headline in the introduction 3. Keeping to introduction short and getting straight into a new section with something attention-grabbing Now that read ratio is taken into account by the algorithm, I've started prioritizing a lot more time into the first 30 seconds of each article. I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
There is a free version, but if you want to earn from the Medium Partner Program (where you get paid for page views) you need to sign up. Which is $5 per month. 🙂👏
Yes, it can be tough to gain traction, especially when you first start out.

Please could you answer two of my questions:
Can I write the same article on Medium and on my own blog and does it affect in a bad way?
Is it difficult to get readers in the beginning of the journey (is medium too competitive as twitter)? Does the algorithm show initial articles to people scrolling on the platform?
Thank you for your time:)
Awesome! You're very welcome. As for your questions:
1. Yes, you can re-post content -- it won't affect Medium's algorithm.
2. And, yes. It can be difficult at first as your stories won't show up on many readers' homepage. I would recommend applying to these 2 publications to help get more exposure on your articles: (1) Illumination (2) About Me stories
I hope that helps! 🙂🙌
Hi Hudson, thanks for sharing your knowledge. I'd like to know the average length of the articles and do they accept fiction?
Articles can be as long or as short as you'd like. But, generally, I aim for 500 - 2000 words. And, yes, they accept fiction, poetry, or anything else you'd like to write about. 🙂🙌
Thanks!

Going back to the follow for follow thing...
Each to their own 🙂
Now besides paragraphing I won't spent forever again editing this post.
That's my current game plan 😎
This message is very long!
And, I totally agree with you regarding following-for-follow method. I'm not a huge fan myself, but when it comes to getting monetized as fast as possible, I look at it as a necessary evil, so to speak.
I think those are some great plans and hope they results in many engaged readers for you. All the best and I appreciate your support. 😇🙏

I've recently set up my Stripe account and partner programs, and I have a few questions for you:
3. And do I write on my publication account or my own members' account?
Look forward to your assistance!
@@queen_miles9751 Here are my best answers to your questions:
1. I don't know much about taxes. So, I would recommend reaching out to Medium support. You can submit a support request, here: help.medium.com/hc/en-us
2. On Medium, you can either self-publish or publish through a publication. Both will show up on your profile. This video explains the differences in further detail: th-cam.com/video/UsLkGWTCjQI/w-d-xo.htmlsi=8tYzk_wlOypuqUdf
3. I would start writing on your own profile and submit your stories to publications to help them get more views

Can you talk more about joining other publications? Do I just search for them and apply.
Sure! I can add that into one of my future videos. But, essentially, yes. You can either search for publications based on your interest or look at the publications popular stories are posted in. Personally, if a story catches my eye, I always go to the publication and check out if it's worth applying to. 🙂👏

Do I need to take membership before I do any of these things or can I join these publications without membership?
You can join these publications with a free account. But, to start earning money from the Medium Partner Program, you need to be a paying member. 🙌
Do I have to write a Welcome post in order to apply to the publication of New writers welcome? I have already 2 published posts from the past, can I still apply?
The video is supper usfull, thank you so much!
No, you can write about about whatever you'd like. They accept stories on a variety of topics. 🙂🙌
I started 3 days before I have 90 followers
Woah, nice! 🙌
The write up that tells you how to join New Writer's welcome says I need to be a member to read the story
Yes, unfortunately, Medium has now removed free reads for non-members. So, you have to be a Medium member to read paywalled stories. 🥲
Great video, I appreciate the breakdown. I have about 600 blog posts that I've put an incredible amount of work into. Is it possible to repurpose these articles in a legitimate way (not being a spammer about it) and post them on Medium, or is there some kind of policy against this?
Yep! You totally can. Even if they're copy and paste from your blog. The only thing Medium doesn't like is 100% AI-generated content. 🙌
@@hudsonrenniewrites thanks a lot.
@@hudsonrenniewrites Hi Medium, what about if you use ai writing tools like SEO writing and any other tools and paraphrase your into your own words. would that be ok? thanks
Very useful video! Glad you created it.
Some questions:
2. (Anytime)- if I write something and I don't submit it to a publication...if it just lives-on-my-profile-or-homepage, can I ever:
A) Use hyphens like I just did, and also,
B) Can we writers ever use slang? i.e..."Wuz goin' Dowwn, Bro?"
C) Can we be Informal? i.e....say/post "Wanna" instead of "want to"?

Awesome! That's great to hear. So, unfortunately, until your country is approved, you can't join the Medium Partner Program. I've heard of writers using VPNs or connecting to a friend/famil member's banking information, but to honest, I can't provide any firsthand information. 😢I hope they approve your country soon, though! Do you know if reposting blog posts from Wordpress to medium is a good idea or is this bad for seo? Is automating the two a good idea?
Hmmm, yeah, it's generally not good for SEO to re-post the exact same content. But, then again, Medium pay is based on Member Read Time, so traffic likely won't come from organic search anyway. 🤔
You can always adjust the headline/introduction slightly when re-posting to avoid duplicate content flags by Google. 🙂🙌

Nope. But, you do to earn from the Medium Partner Program. 💸

You can apply to become a writer, here:

So, if you search for any topic from your Medium homepage, you'll be able to see how many followers it has. In terms of where you live, Medium is planning to open up the MPP to Pakistan but they haven't offered a specific timeframe yet. You can always start writing anyway, but you won't be able to get paid yet. 😢 And, in terms of SEO, to be honest, it's not something I focus on so I'm not the resource. 1- I want to start writing on Medium but I am not in the eligible country at moment. However,
I have Stripe Account and Overseas Identification.
( I don't understand how it works)
Thank you very much!
That's great to hear! As for your questions:
1. If you have access to a Stripe account, you should be ok to apply for the Partner Program
5. You don't! Submitting to publications are helpful for getting more views, but you can also simply hit 'publish' and your story will show up on your profile. You can think of publications like submitting an article to a magazine -- it helps with exposure but you can also self-publish.
I hope that helps! 🙂🙌

Are you unable to find your profile on Medium? Or, is it just that your article isn't getting many views? 🤔💭
If I want to make an advertisement with one of the writers in Medium, I can communicate with him
Yeah, totally.

@hudsonrenniewrites thank you. Medium is but I need to pay $5 a month. Thank you, and how much do people earn
Im having a hard time getting anytype of views or anything also my pic i want wont download need help
Yes, it can be tough to gain traction, especially when you first start out. I would suggest joining the publications About Me Stories & Illumination as they accept new writers and can help increase your visibility.
If you're not already, I would also suggest engaging (clapping and leaving comments) on other writers' stories to help increase your visibility. 👉Here are some more tips: th-cam.com/video/0kCO0K1tf98/w-d-xo.html
In terms of the image, make sure it's the right size/dimensions. There should be a little note on what size it needs to be on the settings page next to the upload button.
I hope that helps! 🙂🙌

Is there any website which offer course for medium assistance
Totally! Lots of Medium writers have courses. I found free this one, from Tom Kuegler, pretty helpful when I first started:
