BTS frequently seeks ways to support the arts. Look up 'Connect BTS' where they commissioned artists to create multimedia art projects in various countries.
In the end the swan, the main dancer, accepts the dancers in black, his shadow, as part of his being, after trying to fight against them. This is part of Carl Jung's theoretical psychology of which these concepts BTS incorporated into their music as you already know. This MV actually released first before the official Black Swan MV, right before the pandemic became big news across the globe.
As a former dancer, I sobbed watching this for the first time. My interpretation was; When the thing that makes you fly, traps and imprisons you. I do agree with the general interpretation that the swan learns to fly in the end. However, upon first watch, RM interpreted the ending as the swan not being able to fly after all. Knowing what we know now, that is absolutely heartbreaking.
I feel like the dancers in black are his shadow and he is trying to get away from it. And when he did he realize that he's not who he is and so eventually embrace his shadows and is one with it. At the end it looks like he's taking flight and bringing his shadow with him. At least that's how I see it.
What other band would have the confidence to introduce the song with an Art Film? This took my breath away when I first saw it. This coming after Intro: Shadow was a one two emotional punch. The music video for Black Swan was released almost two months after this video. I wish we had access to this orchestral version of Black Swan.
This performance never failed to bring tears.. For me the whole choreo tells the story of someone who was always trying to escaping from, and fighting their shadow, they do everything to be themselves but in the end the shadow is still there, they tried to fight them once again but in the end they finaly accept it, and turned out when they accept their shadow, the shadow is in the end the one who makes them fly higher.. I love how this performance goes well with suga's shadow interlude as well when Suga tells abt fighting his shadow, and even his shadow talks back to him abt how he must accept him, this performance is like the continuation of what suga said iin Shadow .. It's about self acceptance, and loving oneself completely even their flaws..
Tbh I never really connected with dance performances but just like BTS this one unexpectedly hit me hard. BTS has truly opened my eyes, ears and heart to a lot of new experiences and I'll be forever grateful to them for that. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
This was filmed in an abandoned shopping mall in LA?) I believe. I always interpreted this as part of the Jungian idea of the dark part of yourself (the Shadow) that you can’t ever escape from. It’s part of all of us. Learn to accept it as part of yourself so that you can move incorporate it into your Persona. Interestingly, MN Dance Company did a more classically choreographed version originally but BTS/Big Hit wanted them to be more creative. Nailed it! Great reaction to a great masterpiece! 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜
Look up Connect BTS for 7 art projects that they funded around the world... an outdoor metal project in NYC, a film by a graphic artist who worked with NatGeo of an untouched (by humans) forest for a museum in London, a solar powered hot air balloon made of recycled materials and flown by a female pilot in South America. Plus others.
So happy you got to this. MN Dance Co is a creative troupe from Slovenia. There is a Behind the Scenes video of BTS watching this performance, and being surprised. They ask Jimin if this is contemporary dance, and if he can perform it. Then Yoongi asks the cutest question I've ever heard. I believe the dancers in black were shadows (self-doubt, negatives) bringing the black swan down, as they were exploring Jung. The Martha Graham quote at the beginning is key. Please share this with your wife.
The original mv, this peformance, bts live performances, and their concert peformances are all art pieces. To me this is the perfect song of BTS using all their talents to create something unique and special.
I think MoS:7 had one of the best promotions this video and the Connect BTS was so nice (i love art so personally i really loved it). And knowing now that they had planned it and its tour to be the last thing before focusing on solo music (damn covid but we got BE and Proof 💜) I can understand why they went full out with MoS:7 and its promotions.
This is the song/video that finally got me into BTS..it was so artistically gorgeous 😍 My interpretation of the dance was that the man was initially controlled by his shadows (fears, past, etc) which he tried to run away from..when he was able to get rid of them, he feels empty and cannot fly..so he confronted them and fought for control ..when he finally won over his shadows, instead of them controlling him, he used them to rise and he learned to fly 😍😍😍
I can see the BTS story in this dance. All the hurdles, all the people trying to hold them back ( in the kpop box). BTS did their own thing. The haters attacking and then the haters becoming followers and trying to imitate them. Them the flying higher and everyone below them.
Wow, haven't seen this in a long time. They hit us with this first, hehe epic! Who does it like them? Awesome reaction but I'm hoping you get more subs, you deserve it 😁 💜
I watched it when I was a pre-baby army Already seen carpool karaoke Daechwita ON the official version with the giraffe 🦒 And ON in LA which I liked better I didn’t mind the different version And ON at NYC was a banger So this art film in a desolate mall reminded me of my past I used to see many dance companies: modern, classic, and contemporary works: Martha Graham, Pina Bausch, Merce Cunningham Pina died the same day MJ died together with Farrah Fawcet. I was in territories I knew And this empty space resonated with the recent lockdown in my country. I must have watched it at the end of April or mid-May 2020. Those dancers are pure grace and beauty.
Oh my, they all died same day, what are the odds?! Yes, this is a lovely piece which also surprised me. So many wonderful talents gone now but we still have the memories. Forgot to say Welcome to the family 💜
Esta versión de Black Swan y el mv son arte, la primera vez que la vi y escuché me hizo llorar en serio, cuando el cisne vuela al final.. Esto no es kpop siempre lo hemos dicho 💜
I'm a little late to the party, but I'd like to share my vision about this video here too. This ong is from the album Map Of The Soul: 7 which is supposed to explore the Ego and Shadow. For me, the suited people represent the shadow, and at the beginning, the swan is being overpowered and "tamed" by his shadow, being held back by it. He tries running away from it, but the shadow keeps chasing the swan until he faces it. The swan fights his shadow, then embraces it, and by the end we see the black swan in control, and instead of fighting him, the shadow follows the swan. As an artist, this song is very special to me. The idea of losing the passion for the things I love is terrifying, and seeing bts, the biggest group in the world, admit they feel the same thing is incredibly inspiring in it's honesty.
Thanks a lot for the reaction to this. Many people may not agree with me, but for me this is the first and only version of Black Swan (I still don't understand the purpose of the second MV other then the thirst of some fangirls). The artistry, the concept, THE MUSIC are unparalleled.
This is how they introduced us to Black Swan. So artistic, so meaningful, so real.

RM will probably build a museum to showcase different artists from around the world in the future.

I know im not into art stuff. But this really proves that BTS' discography is beyond music!

I love this more than I can even express. I wish more people knew about it. Thanks so much for reacting to this Jim! 💜

This song had such an impact that I will always remember my state of mind, where I was, and what it made me feel when it was released
Their deep love of art never stops impressing me. They support and promote art on a level I see rare for pop artists at their level.

It is really pure art. I just keep watching over and over again if I can. MN Dance Company did really great job.

BRAVO MN DANCE COM AND BTS ARTISTRY, MUSICALITY!!!😯👏👏👏💐😍🕺🎶🎤👑🥇💜💞✌🏽🙏🏽
9:09 abandoned mall maybe because there is an escalator or airport?
