Bonneville is such a cool place, have raced motorcycle there many times, the salt is brutal on anything aluminum. it is cool that you can see the curvature of the earth.
Yep, it’s a few inches of salt crust on top of DEEP mud. When they have the speed trials, they send teams out to poke rods through the salt to measure its thickness and they mark off the area where it’s safe to drive.
How cool. If you have not seen the movie The Worlds Fastest Indian check it out. It is a true story of an older gentleman from New Zealand who modified his Indian motorcycle and his adventures to set a world speed record on the Bonneville salt flats. Enjoying following this Big Haul
Adam…Before you got to the Salt Flats .. back east near the Loves Truck Stop, the actual Lake itself is close to I-80… you can swim in it … it’s so salty that the specific gravity of the water will not let you sink ..
Adam, Abby.... The great salt Lake at one time was a humongous inland sea!!!! At sometime tge northern end eroded or split and all that water carved out the Snake river gorge!! To the Columbia and on out to the Big blue pacific!! The history out there is so neat!!
Adam, you need to look up Ab Jenkins, and his Mormon Meteor. Augie Duesenberg used to call Ab, the Salt Bishop. Ab set some records before WWII that haven't been broken. (He did long timed endurance events, up to 36 hours, nonstop, by himself.) steve
I wish some of my comments would get answered, I love traveling with you two, my traveling days have been over since 2009 and I sure miss it. God Bless you two.
The racing on the Flats takes place in the fall. A land speed record holder (Art Arfons) had his shop down the street from my elementary and junior high school and I grew up with his son.
I’m not going to change how I talk or pronounce things. People come to the south and pronounce names differently then we do, and it’s all good. In fact, in school I was taught it just the way I say Nevada.
I drove a tractor-trailer An auto transporter for about 28 years We used to call those stretches of highway at cannonball road Meaning you could stop and fire a cannon ball straight ahead of you And then drive out and pick it up and do it again😂
The last time we stayed at the KOA in West Wendover, I asked the manager about how hard it is to get a reservation in the area for an RV during the race time, and she said most have reservations at least a year out or longer. There are no spots available during the racing to just drop in for the night, so it must be quite crowded in the area.
I’d never drive on the salt flats my personal car. Salt will penetrate every crack and crevice. You’ll never get rid of it unless you disassemble the vehicle, or it rusts through……… Whipple
I was hoping for a land speed record, Ram pulling a Kodiak... Starlink must be working great. Keep the videos coming... Awsome place.
Love the trip so far Adam! RIP Jessi Combs, fasted woman on earth. Died in a bad accident on the flats.

People who ignore salt flat warnings will likely find themselves breaking through the crust and burying themselves. Recovery is very expensive, too!

It blows my mind driving by on 80 and see the salt mine trucks all sunk in up past the axles …

Amazing! I'd never take my vehicle out on the flats, that salt will find every tiny scratch in the paint!
This place is on my bucket list, thanks for the video!
Such a cool trip you guys having! I’ve always wanted to check out Utah!
Wow, the drive out of there at 9:50 was amazing. Can’t wait to check this place out in person!
Thanks for giving me a vacation during outage season 😁
Thanks for sharing
Should have detoured into Tooele and visited Asylum 49, another Ghost Adventure episode!
That was cool

Make sure to wash the rig under carriage best ya can.... That salt powder sticks to everything. 50% humidity activates it.

Now you need to watch the movie “Worlds fastest Indian”
Great film. Recommend it highly!

It is really flat when on Wednesday morning you can see who wants to visit you on Sunday evening.
Oh, Ely NV, are you going to operate a locomotive?
Gale Banks territory years back.
🇺🇲🙂
Ely Nevada ? Hmmm, Does the trip there involve the Nevada Northern Railroad ?
Inquiring minds want to know. 🤔
