    The reason that the connection boxes don’t need to be metal yet is so that they can do another amendment and make more money selling the updated regs books etc.

    its only switchgear containment that requires metal/non conbustible material. All our other junction boxes around the house are plastic, so 1 big one with multiple joints will be no different.

    Using grey for live seems to be a thing with that style of connector; TE Connectivity use grey for their fused modular terminal blocks (I think one of the designs also comes in orange). Although the connector blocks do have brown available, along with blue, green/yellow, black, red, etc.

    Wet Belt LOL Ive done a few, You do know Ford recommend changing the engine not the belt. There are 2 belts the "cam belt" and the "oil pump" belt make sure you have both done and the sealer takes 24hours to cure before the engine is run again, I have also had 1 transit die a week later and had to strip the engine down in front of a warranty engineer to find no reason what so ever for the engine to explode (the belt was still timed and intact). So this is a warning for Ford / Peugeot/ Citroen with wet belts those belts are supposed to be "life of the vehicle" but they are not have them changed 60k max. If you look though the oil filler hole that on some wet belt engines you can see the belt if its fluffy its to late. I know this comment is not electrical but you guys drive vans.

    The bit that surprises me the most is that someone has done nice DIN rail terminations etc, but in an old CU. I could fully understand eg choc block or similar just rammed in, but to go to the extent of proper DIN terminals but with no sensible lid etc, is just mad...

    Never heard the question asked about being a metal enclosure when using wago enclosures joining 2 cables together, it's the same principle as the relocation box. Regs say metal for switch gear only. That's why we don't use metal for all joint boxes. Would be a nightmare

  • @_chrisr_
    @_chrisr_ ปีที่แล้ว

    The regulations only require metal enclosures for switchgear so consumer unit has switches in but a joint box doesn’t so can be made of plastic. But yes I would agree that through movement etc joints can become loose and pose a fire risk, however is same is true for the majority for remainder of components installed too so there is an argument to alter regulations to require fire proof enclosures for all cable joints as well as requiring spring loaded terminals to be used.

    Are you allowed to leave single insulation in regular trunking in the UK? Over here that's only considered acceptable if the trunking can't be opened without using tools. I've had the occasional argument over that because sparks just love to hide choc blocks in trunking.

  • @robertburrows6612
    @robertburrows6612 ปีที่แล้ว

    How far do you go metal enclosers , wispa box are plastic , dryline boxes are plastic, surface mount boxes are plastic, plastic trucking and conduit are fire risk if that have accessories install in them particularly dado trucking . Are potential fire risk with arcing. We torq the terminal in a CU to prevent arcing, should be start torquing all terminals in sockets , switches ect. A side not does your work comply with fire regs, are you using plastic plugs with screw , metal screw conduct heat , the heat with melt the plastic plug causing what ever it fixing to collapse. It's down to the skill of the sparks . I rate you as a very skill full sparks, because your work attitude you always do the best job you can possibly do.

    Perhaps the logic behind not requiring a joint box to be made of metal is due to loading on a common connection? A loose screw on a 100a main switch for example. Obviously the same amount if current is flowing through the junction box in total, but through each individual din rail joiner you'll only have 16a or 32a. I'm sure it'd still burn up a treat but that's my guess - and it is a guess!

    I want to see an overengineered wago relocation box. Deepest part has spring terminals, and then two separate screw terminals for the wire. With a visual indicator for overheating - some sort of color changing dye on the terminals to show they've ever gotten hot. If noone gonna make it, I'm gonna.

    • @dimitar4y
      @dimitar4y ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Hoops-Senior Might be easier to make it a separate product, just slap it across the cables with a big brush. Seeing as the wago installations are competent enough on their own.

      They already exist in all existing electrical products, this is not a new idea.
      When they get hot, they go a darker colour, with a smoky surround. A little bit of time after that, they start melting the surrounding plastic enclosure, then a little time after that, they catch fire to tell you that there is a problem.
