Thank you for all the nice comments. Since some have asked why the chair was only upholstered in half. The chair is intended for our exhibition in the upholstery shop and a historical market, it makes it easier to see the construction and effort of the upholstery.
A craftsman built that chair nearly 200 years ago. Would he ever have imagined that it would survive for a modern day craftsman to restore it so beautifully. Fantastic, bravo, Bellissimo.
That chair must have fantastic stories to tell.. The things it's heard... Daily things about the normal life of its owners and their pets, their kids' births, schooling, marriages, deaths of family and friends, wars, peace announcements, new technologies, sunny days, storms, floods, maybe earthquakes... It's "seen" humanity go from horse drawn carriages and walking to the space age!!! From 1 billion people to 8 billion... From pitch black nights to light pollution... What will it "see" in the next 200 years?
Never knew what they used as upholstery material back then. What a job was then, and now. Thank you for the video. I founded surprising and fascinating.
I finally realized that this was a demonstration piece. It was fascinating to see the springs being tied together. I knew about horsehair stuffing but not the palm leaf fiber. I need to read more about that. The green pulverizing machine was great fun to watch.
young man you an artist....your generation does not know what is hammer....and looking at you art work brings hope for future...just keep doing what you do and wish you lots of success
All that fine work and you didn't allow us to see the final result on the chair from top to bottom. That took my "Like" away. Keep in mind we're not just interested in the upholstery but also in a Biedermeier antique. Thanks from snowy Mont-Liban for the beautiful craftmanship and for saving your wonderful patrimony.
Wahnsinn!
I look at antique furniture and I see a family. I think someone sat or ate or slept in it. They raised families, had good times, bad times . For me this is what antiques represent, a past life. I think they are warm and beautiful and each has a story to tell if we could but know it.
I know this sounds crazy, but I think the jute straps are pretty in themselves. This is a remarkable and skillful restoration. Thank you for showing this….❤️
Christian thank you for this tastefull work. Working with half made easier for us to understand all the layers. Well done 👍🏻🌟🪚🔧🛠 Stay safe and see you soon 👍🏻
Congratulations!!! Beautifull demonstration video on how a master craftsman works on this kind of antique restoration project. Thankyou and every blessing to you and your team for future project videos.
Superb just Superb. Love the video. Your restoration using 1800 methods. How beautiful the chair is, and the way you showed how the judge was used to tie down springs. Like u said just Superb. 😄
Extraordinario!
What a joy it would be to have eight or so of these around a fine Biedermeier table! Add another family and a good meal while seated on those cushions, and it's about as close as one gets to Heaven without dying.
I have 2 Beidermeier swivel bar stools made of beautiful blonde maple with arms, a broad padded seat and classic holes across the back design. I have recovered them at least four times and they have lived in three homes. This furniture is at least 22 years old and it still look brand new. The quality of this brand cannot be surpassed.
Felicitaciones 🎉🏆
Was watching this video, and noticed you picking up the tacks by hand, my mom has done upholstering and the hammer had a magnetic end to pick up the tacks. It seemed very helpful for her. Just a thought.
Alessio
Though this is a marketing/sale tool to show the work involved in the restauration, I believe that you would get the most effect by finishing the whole chair! It is a beautiful piece of furniture with a soul, because the wood is a material which is somewhat still alive, and deserving to be fully beautiful again. Good work but could have achieved more by finishing the restauration. 😊

And not a loose joint to be seen.
Never knew what they used as upholstery material back then. What a job was then, and now. Thank you for the video. I founded surprising and fascinating.
Just breathtaking!!! I would never have imagined what lies underneath the upholstery! Fantastic job!
hola mijita🥰
I finally realized that this was a demonstration piece. It was fascinating to see the springs being tied together. I knew about horsehair stuffing but not the palm leaf fiber. I need to read more about that. The green pulverizing machine was great fun to watch.
Yeah I was a little curious about the pulverising machine !
How often does it gette use, what else goes through :0
A chair that will be more useful to more people than anyone who may sit on it. Excellent demonstration of a craft.
Super geworden, bin ganz begeistert.
So fascinating to see how well-made furniture is constructed. Beautiful workmanship!
I love how you finished half the chair so we can get a cutaway view showing all the stages. Thank you.
young man you an artist....your generation does not know what is hammer....and looking at you art work brings hope for future...just keep doing what you do and wish you lots of success
Excellent job, beautiful, outstanding. Thank you for sharing to the world what the old school was.

So much nicer than latex foam fills. Love it, amazing craftmanship!

WOW that's such an amazing chair. People in the 18century put so much effort into making it.
Am YOU have given it a new life.
Well done
This is wonderful to watch this transformation. Amazing how materials held up so long. Learned many techniques to use on my old furniture.

Vielen Dank, freut mich sehr.
Wonderful demonstration of the art..…and I would never have dreamed that there was a machine for shredding palm fibre. Amazing.

Very nice 👍 to actually see the anatomy of a chair being restored.
Sincerely yours Mr Severance,
I know this sounds crazy, but I think the jute straps are pretty in themselves. This is a remarkable and skillful restoration. Thank you for showing this….❤️
Christian thank you for this tastefull work. Working with half made easier for us to understand all the layers. Well done 👍🏻🌟🪚🔧🛠 Stay safe and see you soon 👍🏻
Excellent job with tying the springs up with twine. It is more difficult than it looks to get it done correctly.

Wow! Congratulations! Nice job. I did restoration in 1980s. Im from Brazil.
Der Wahnsinn was für eine Arbeit klasse 👍👍
So informative as to the elements of the structure under the upholstery of this chair. I enjoyed this. Thank you.
