The shape shifter was hired by Sage; so Sage could free Annie and put the assassin on hold. I think this is a social experiment to Sage.
HUghie is not getting a break this season with his dad and being SA'd two episodes in a row. I feel so bad for him.
Sage was right, HL's ego was the biggest problem.
She had to keep secrets from him for the plan to work because he's not a strategist, he'd try to make the plan "better" but eff things up badly.
Thing is her power is literally her super intelligence, but everyone seems to think that they know better than she does.
I love the redemption arc A-Train has been on, especially this season.

I can't help but feel happy about the transformative change in A train and try to be a better hero deep down now.
The dynamics of this episode were amazing before the finale and other arcs happening. I was also confused about the octopus dying so quickly , but after rewatching, i noticed an overhead lamp. Which probably added more heat and harder to contain moisture.

This is random, but considering A-Train's redemption arc, I wish they had mentioned Pop Claw at least once. Hughie and the Boys did play a role in her demise even though A-Train followed Homelander's orders to finish her. A-Train's breakdown about it in the first season was pretty intense. For consistency's sake, when Hughie and A-Train shook hands it would have been a nice touch with a "Sorry about Popclaw."
That is an entire can of worms that is best left unsaid.
nah because no matter how he'd try to spin it, it was still all a-trains fault. A-train told popclaw about the v in the first place and kept it with her. He got sloppy when he got hooked on the v. It all comes back to his actions and homelander's orders. Focusing on doing better and turning against homelander is the most clear cut way to redemption for all he has done.

The scene of Deep killing the octopus is so hilarious it's one of the best meta jokes I've ever seen.
It's mirroring these scenes where an argument escalates into someone dying, and then the guy who did it starts freaking out and regretting it...
Except in Deep's case, the victim is still alive after the "regret" phase, yet Deep doesn't just run and save her.
That means his regret is obviously fake as shit, and he's just trying to play the better role.

I was really hoping that after that heart to heart conversation Annie had with Firecracker last week where she actually took accountability for what she did in the past That would remove whatever mental block she has stopping her from accessing her powers. But it looks like it didn't. Either way I know the season finale is going to end on a cliffhanger which somehow is going to launch us into season 2 of Gen V

I went back once they showed Annie in chains. When did the shift occur? At the bar? That preceded the scene with all of them where Samir was held which means the Shapeshifter knows about the virus, knows Samir is alive, knows the Boys are planning on killing Homelander & Vicky, and was the one fighting the Deep at the office.
No, that was the real Annie fighting the Deep, after the fight they went the bar & that’s when the switch happened. So the shapeshifter now knows about the virus & all that. Which is extremely bad 😅
I love the butcher, joe and Ryan stuff in the episode, proud of a train, once again Hughie can’t catch a fucking break, that webweaver scene almost made me throw up that shit was nasty, r.I.p octopus

Neat thing I noticed about the shapeshifter is that I think they can absorb memories. Since if I am correct, it would have been the shapeshifter asking Butcher about the whole Kessler thing as it was after the “fan” stopped by for Starlight. It would also explain how they got into the safe as they had enough.. interaction, with Hughie to get that information out of him with touch. Just a neat ability is all that also makes that a VERY dangerous individual as they can change into anyone AND retain their memories.

I think Sage's plan is still in effect, Homelander's only confidant is an insecure idiot. She destabalized Deep and pitted Nior and Deep against each other with sex. The Seven have never been weaker, and Sage hates everything about Homelander, so I highly doubt she ever meant to help him long term. She is playing her own game, and weakening Homelander from the inside was part of her plan.

The biggest takeaway from Ryan speech is that he says that billy was Becca’s husband and not homelander even tho homelander is his father
I mean new Black Noir had to have some skillful powers otherwise I don't see why Homelander would allow him into the Seven. Also we saw in episode 3 how strongly he swing the bat so he has strength, armor + he can fly so he might be more useful than previous black noir.

Everyone is going through the wringer this season but seems the writers love to torture Hughie and Annie the most lol Makes sense, since they are essentially the most "good" characters on the show.
Now, Sage's plan is basically flawless, but Homelander's ego and firing Sage will be the pivotal saving grace the team will need to end the season on a good note. That or HL wins in the finale in a major way and it sets up the disaster that season 5 will revolve around. Either way, I'm so excited for the finale!
