I never fully understood why people would ever buy something that they had the ability to manufacture them selves. I have great respect for your work and learned many things from you, keep up the good work!
With steady rests and follow rests one always has to adapt them anyhow, so since I have the tools why not build them. Thanks for the respect Arthur, I really appreciate it.
This is looking good. What I like most about watching you in the shop, is your calibrated eyeballs. I think that the follow rest is a bit over engineered. But, That rest will last for centuries. Be sure to put your name and the date on the rest when you finish the project. So after we are all long gone, they will know about Nik Colyer. Also, the follow rest and the steady rest will help when you get around to building a holder for inline boring on the old Clausing. Is it going to be possible to use this follow rest on the small lathe?
Stamping my name and date is a good idea. Sorry, the small lathe has a different center height, so I will have to build a smaller one for that lathe. Probably never get done, but I like the idea of inline boring holders. I've put it on the list.
Excellent display of CAD skills! (cardboard aided design)

Damn you are one brave individual!
It's been a while since I made the followrest. Can't remember what part I was brave?
Endeavouring right from the git go mate
good job so far looking forward to the next video. thanks nick.
Hey, thanks for watching.
I like it .. Great start !!

Nik, did you consider modifying the follow rest you already have to work on your lathe?
I tried for sure. It was obviously built for a different size lathe.
This will be more fun anyway. A follow rest from scratch.
It's always about the fun of it.
Nicely done!
