    I love this guy's chill vibe. It's so soothing and comforting. He doesn't try to show off. It's just pure practicality and competency. But the result is always pristine!

    Great vid once again. Not fancy tools, not much talking, short but informative format, nice triple tone step table, patience, attention to detail, great end result. What's not to like?
    Thank you.
    Edit: nice to see that you left the part with the strikes from the stripper. You addressed the problem and gave the solution.
    Also liked the last seconds where I could admire that road.. haha

    It’s nice that this one had an oops in it. I’m going to be refinishing a Bruno Mathsson style narrow drop leaf table soon. It needs quite a bit of TLC and I’ve got lots of info to help from your videos.

    I have a pair of these and will be restoring them to go with the matching coffee table. I inherited the set from my parents and have always wanted them because I found them beautiful from childhood to the present; they are timeless in my mind. On to part 2...

    Interesting mix of woods on this table. Walnut, ash, and hickory(?). My buddy has two of those tables, but without the second tier. Love that dove tail detail on them.

    Hi Dashner.
    I usually never leave comments, but I wanted to thank you for sharing your work.
    All the pieces you restore end up being very beautiful. Your videos are so soothing, hearing your voice is very relaxing and every step is so well explained. I love your style.
    I don't know if you're open to hear suggestions, but if you are, I would love to see a video about different stains and how you pick which one to use. That would be very interesting.
    Once again, thanks for sharing your work!

    I want to refinish all my Duncan Phyfe...but it is an entire bedroom set. Four-poster bed, chest of drawers, mirrored vanity and nightstand. Also an un-matched antique barley twist drop leaf side table I use for a sewing/dining table in my tiny home. (200 sq. ft.)
    I wish you could come to Texas and help!!! ❤
    Keep up the good work...looking forward to Part 2 of this!

    I think these tables are another subtle example of the USA-U.K. divide. I can’t remember seeing this style of table until I saw them on your channel. You’ve restored a few now, but that’s not saying you are in any way repeating yourself as each table throws up its own challenges. In the U.K. in the 60s and 70s we had some horrendous "coffee" table in the middle of the room, the worst of them had an atrocious Formica top and the almost obligatory shelf underneath where the two TV guides of the day were kept along with all sorts of rubbish. The biggest irony of all was the name of the table as very few Brits in the 60s drank coffee. Then when we did start drinking more coffee the coffee table started to disappear in favour of the nest of tables that were popular in the mid 70s to the early 80s. We are a funny little nation.
    As always a great video and looking forward to part 2. Thank you.

    Another video, Yay! 😊
    Just an observation, before using the heat gun, I was surprised you didn't check first if the top shelf was screwed to the bottom piece. I wonder if as a general rule these pieces are usually glued in and that is why you didn't look. But, what do I know?
    I was bitting my nails until you were able to separate it. My reaction was Ouch!

    FYI---the original finish on Lane Acclaim tables and a lot of other furniture is lacquer. Acetone dissolves lacquer very quickly and is about half the cost of Citrustrip, plus you don't need another solvent to clean up any residue because the acetone leaves nothing behind. You do need to use heavy duty chemical resistant gloves because nothing else holds up to acetone. And a respirator is a good idea, too.

    This really is a labor of love. Lots of chemistry and residue, how did you dispose? There is so much of this furniture on the sides of the road, dropped into the laps of charity, etc. so I applaud what you are trying to do, but it seems to carry such a huge chemical footprint! I no doubt would be doing the same if there was a great emotional tie to it, but I would not do this on a regular basis! A quick cleaning with more cleanup than outlay of chemicals, then spray sealant or marine sealant, then outdoors on the back deck to be used to death in our harsh weather. Then nobody worries about barbecue sauce, cup holder stains, whatever. I hope this comes out really rewarding, especially if you are fixing it for someone truly attached. That is the kicker, they will last forever so now that we got thousands, literally taking over our garages and landfills, how much money and chemistry do we devote?

    • @patrickhickey8779
      @patrickhickey8779 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You are kidding right? Do some research on landfill space and you will find that their foot print is miniscule in relatiin to our overall landmass. Outlay of chemicals?

    • @Voirreydirector
      @Voirreydirector 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Patrick Hickey hon, I guess I have an advantage I did not discuss. My husband is a scientist for the state who inspects and helps folks on the local level, but every manifest of movement of chemicals and residues also must pass him, for the state and of course all of the other states and places stuff ends up. He also helps out individual members of the public. We have committed our lives to helping people, actually. My service animal is also an air quality rescue kiddo, and my dad was a professional furniture man. I worry about things, yes, maybe too much. My husband has worked in wastewater treatment, paper mills , large industry, and now in universal waste. We talk msds over breakfast, you know? In this case I was harping a bit. Chemical footprints involve quite a bit more than radius of landfills, there are also the special and universal stuff, packaging, etc. and it is not just post consumer. Inappropriate small shop waste cleanup is huge, chemically soaked rags, etc, even in some places enzymes and polymers we don’t even consider. Anyway, I don’t think we even need debate here. I totally agree with what you did. My husband just asked for my help looking at a property, gotta go. Take care,

    • @DashnerDesignRestoration
      @DashnerDesignRestoration  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer to use stripper instead of sanding the finish off. There is less chance of damaging the veneer with the stripper.

    • @DashnerDesignRestoration
      @DashnerDesignRestoration  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks! The value can be hard to pin down. In the MPLS area I would say around $100-$200. Maybe more if being sold in a vintage shop. Also, the demand for Acclaim isn't what it once was. I remember around 5 years ago Acclaim pieces would sell really fast but the market seems to have cooled a bit.
