- FUKIYA, a red townscape located in Takahashi City, Okayama Prefecture, is a fascinating place that suddenly appears. During the Edo period (1603-1867), the town flourished as a production center of the red pigment "bengara," and its unique history still lives on today. Just walking along the streets is enjoyable, but knowing the history behind the streets brings back the life and culture of those days even more vividly.
Strolling through the streets of Fukiya is truly a wonderful experience to feel the times as you visit the residences of the bengara potters and the ruins of the bengara factory, as well as the ruins of the copper mine tunnels and the Hirokane Residence, a palatial mansion. This video conveys the brilliance and charm of the town through the historical buildings and scenery of FUKIYA, showing what it was like in those days.
FUKIYA is a wonderful place that has been registered as a Japan Heritage Site. We hope that everyone will enjoy its splendor through this video.
