I couldn't test it in the store because it's wrapped in hard plastic. Trying to fit a rod thicker than 8mm is a challenge. So i took a 10mm drill covered with oil and went right through the middle of this product with high rpm. My rod has 12 mm right above the cork , and now fits perfectly. Oil not only makes drilling more precise but makes this foam a bit softer. In general It might be a good idea to apply a little of oil ona foam around the slit , makes the entrance effortless 👌 and surprisingly the grips is still very stron. In general this product requires major improvements.
Chris, thanks for your feedback. You are correct that the original dimensions of the Rod Clip foam will have a hard time gripping larger diameter rods such as certain models of Tenkara. We have been considering making a larger version of our Rod Clip to accommodate larger rod sizes. If you don't mind sharing, you can send photos of your modification to us at support@smithcreek.co Tight lines!
I bought one and in a week get to try it out. Your net holster was not good. UGH. Rod clips on the side end up snagging line creating a mess. I hope this works out for me.
