@@DrGAshenden You seem to have things backwards. Doesn't someone take away rights, first, before someone else feels the need to fight to get their rights back? Doesn't someone have to declare another unacceptable, first, before that person will fight to be accepted? Whatever culture war there is, was started by actual religious people. Nobody is actually worshipping a pride flag, or trying to force convert everyone to be gay. Trying to force everyone to not be gay, by punishing them, or discriminating against them, for being gay, would have been when a "war" started.
I think it might be the case that many atheists understand the gospel better than Christians, in a way. Many of the ones who are actually angry with God are more appreciative of the bad news which necessarily precedes the good news, to wit, they are sinners in God's eyes, and the new life would cost them something--something they do not wish to, or feel they cannot, pay, which is true repentance. There is so much bad doctrine that is mainstream now, including the idea that grace is cheap, forgiveness is easy, and virtually nothing is actually required to obtain it because God is an overindulgent daddy.
Fascinating. I heard something similar today regarding God’s silence in our lives: an atheist wouldn’t be offended by God’s silence but a stern believer might be. The paradox being that the more faith we have the more doubt we deal with. But as I heard Nick Cave recently say: (i will paraphrase) unbelief or doubt is but a mere detail in the life of seeking God.
@fraserkyle4880 yes, not all "atheism" is alike, in the sense that the motivations behind it can be various. I think this is at least partially the reason why different approaches to addressing it are necessary--apologetics, reason, mercy, love, even the frightening truth, and what-have-you. These can all be good approaches in their proper time and application. It is only with God's grace that we can do any effectual work with atheistic and agnostic people. And yes, many believers must also struggle with doubts, unbelief, anger sooner or later. I think one must truly love God to get through the many things in life victoriously.
Thank you, Dr. Ashenden. If I may, I might add to your list James Lindsay, who has done excellent work in making the connections between J.J. Rousseau, Hegel, Marx, various Frankfort members, Foucault - as a Hemetic, gnostic cult of religion.
I listened intently to your talk Dr Ashenden and feel uplifted by what you said. I often wonder though as we leave this mortal coil that we call life and ascend to heaven - its there I wonder does God categorise different beliefs or as many peoples who have gone through near death experiences have said whether they were Christians or Atheistic in faith- found out during their brief time there that religious beliefs there didn't seem to matter but faith did. There didn't seem to be a judgement on anyone regarding this that was reported by them. Even so called Atheists were not judged harshly. Its so interesting to think about this..

I think that the great contribution of Jordan Peterson to our contemporary spiritual and intellectual catastrophe has been to show that the Bible is not a collection of crude stories by "Bronze Age sheepherders" (as many atheists stupidly assert - a prime example of the genetic fallacy), but rather a text that expounds profound existential, psychological, moral and spiritual truths (even if I like others have some reservations about the Jungian framework within which Peterson reads the Bible). In fact, I've long suspected that the obsession with the question of whether God exists or not is something of a secondary issue: the real question, which Peterson has rightly intuited, is whether the Bible is a true and trustworthy revelation of God (I think that so-called "higher criticism" of the Bible has done far more damage to the faith of the average person than the so-called New Atheists). Even if Peterson himself is not a believer, he demonstrates beyond any doubt that Holy Scripture has real truth and spiritual power.
I used to keep asking individual atheists online who the "illiterate Bronze Age Goat Herders" were who wrote the bible, which parts did they write and how did they manage it if they were illiterate but they were never able to answer.

An excellent talk, full of wisdom and sense. That said, on a personal level, I'd love to know what the Catholic position is on Evolution. I find that though Evolution is now accepted as the best description of human origins, the Church still holds fast to the doctrine of Original Sin transmitted from our first parents, Adam and Eve. To me, that makes no sense and no amount of semantic gymnastics by theologians will convince me otherwise. My take may be that of a layman, but, so long as that fundamental contradiction is not answered in straightforward terms, then I suggest that newcomers to the faith or watchers, will eventually become disillusioned or even just unthinking sheep.

I would like to share these verses of the Quran addressing the People of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews and/or Christians): English translation of the Quran, Chapter 4 verses 153 - 175, 153. The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven. But they had asked of Moses [even] greater than that and said, "Show us Allah outright," so the thunderbolt struck them for their wrongdoing. Then they took the calf [for worship] after clear evidence had come to them, and We pardoned that. And We gave Moses a clear authority. 154. And We raised over them the mount for [refusal of] their covenant; and We said to them, "Enter the gate bowing humbly"; and We said to them, "Do not transgress on the sabbath"; and We took from them a solemn covenant. 155. For their breaking of the covenant and their disbelief in the signs of Allah and their killing of the prophets without right and their saying, "Our hearts are wrapped" [i.e., sealed against reception] [We cursed them]. Rather, Allah has sealed them because of their disbelief, so they believe not, except for a few. 156. And [We cursed them] for their disbelief and their saying against Mary a great slander 157. And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain. 158. Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise. 159. And there is none from the People of the Scripture but that he will surely believe in him [i.e., Jesus] before his death. And on the Day of Resurrection he will be against them a witness. 160. For wrongdoing on the part of the Jews, We made unlawful for them [certain] good foods which had been lawful to them, and for their averting from the way of Allah many [people], 161. And [for] their taking of usury while they had been forbidden from it, and their consuming of the people's wealth unjustly. And We have prepared for the disbelievers among them a painful punishment. 162. But those firm in knowledge among them and the believers believe in what has been revealed to you, [O Muhammad], and what was revealed before you. And the establishers of prayer [especially] and the givers of zakat (a religious duty for all Muslims who meet the necessary criteria of wealth to help the needy) and the believers in Allah and the Last Day - those We will give a great reward. 163. Indeed, We have revealed to you, [O Muhammad], as We revealed to Noah and the prophets after him. And We revealed to Abraham, Ishmael, Isaac, Jacob, the Descendants, Jesus, Job, Jonah, Aaron, and Solomon, and to David We gave the book [of Psalms] 164. And [We sent] messengers about whom We have related [their stories] to you before and messengers about whom We have not related to you. And Allah spoke to Moses with [direct] speech. 165. [We sent] messengers as bringers of good tidings and warners so that mankind will have no argument against Allah after the messengers. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise. 166. But Allah bears witness to that which He has revealed to you. He has sent it down with His knowledge, and the angels bear witness [as well]. And sufficient is Allah as Witness. 167. Indeed, those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allah have certainly gone far astray. 168. Indeed, those who disbelieve and commit wrong [or injustice] - never will Allah forgive them, nor will He guide them to a path, 169. Except the path of Hell; they will abide therein forever. And that, for Allah, is [always] easy. 170. O mankind, the Messenger has come to you with the truth from your Lord, so believe; it is better for you. But if you disbelieve - then indeed, to Allah belongs whatever is in the heavens and earth. And ever is Allah Knowing and Wise. 171. O People of the Scripture, do not commit excess in your religion or say about Allah except the truth. The Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, was but a messenger of Allah and His word which He directed to Mary and a soul [created at a command] from Him. So believe in Allah and His messengers. And do not say, "Three"; desist - it is better for you. Indeed, Allah is but one God. Exalted is He above having a son. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. And sufficient is Allah as Disposer of affairs. 172. Never would the Messiah disdain to be a servant of Allah, nor would the angels near [to Him]. And whoever disdains His worship and is arrogant - He will gather them to Himself all together. 173. And as for those who believed and did righteous deeds, He will give them in full their rewards and grant them extra from His bounty. But as for those who disdained and were arrogant, He will punish them with a painful punishment, and they will not find for themselves besides Allah any protector or helper. 174. O mankind, there has come to you a conclusive proof from your Lord, and We have sent down to you a clear light. 175. So those who believe in Allah and hold fast to Him - He will admit them to mercy from Himself and bounty and guide them to Himself on a straight path.
We do have knowledge or at least very great reasons to believe. We are not in doubt. Maryan PUBH is the most highly revered lady in Islam. According to all four gospels, she was standing at the foot of the Cross with other women and John the Beloved Disciple. AND YOU EXPECT ME TO BELIEVE THAT SHE COULD NOT RECOGNISE HER OWN SON ?? She and they saw him die, But someone 6 centuries later knew better than her ? No muslim has ever ben able to answer this objection.
@@civiliseddisobedience3096 Thank you for your comment. I think you are underestimating the power of God (by God I mean of course the One and Only Creator). Do you think that God Who created Jesus pbuh, will not be able to make someone else resemble him, such that his own own mother, Mary pbuh, would not be able to recognize the difference? With regard to your statement that the Quran came 6 centuries later. If the Quran was authored by some human, then indeed your statement would be very valid. However, this is not the case. The Quran is the last and final word of God to all mankind. There is so much evidence to support this, for instance the two videos I am sharing at the end of my reply, but I can supply links of detailed studies on that. On another note, there is compelling evidence which describes how Christianity deviated from a monotheistic religion of the time of Jesus and Christians of the first century a/o due to the influence of emperors with pagan background entering Christianity. Today, a growing number of (mostly Christian) biblical scholars tend to agree with the view of Jesus presented in the Qur'an. These short videos by the British theologian Paul Williams may be of interest to you. This one discusses whether Jesus actually claimed to be God: th-cam.com/video/TZoC-iPb7uU/w-d-xo.html; this one is about whether Jesus denied being God: th-cam.com/video/CxrerjcWHg4/w-d-xo.html; this one is about how the trinity verse was added to the Bible: th-cam.com/video/-CvLBJBeMl8/w-d-xo.html; and this one discusses what Jesus meant by saying that I and the father are one th-cam.com/video/Ob-Ie-OsVn8/w-d-xo.html Further, Prophet Muhammad, being the last and final messenger sent by God to all mankind, was mentioned in the old and the new testaments by name and by his descriptions. Please watch this TH-cam video which provides proof: th-cam.com/video/d3y7GDhPd8w/w-d-xo.html There is also evidence that he was prophesized with stunning details in other scriptures such as Hindu: th-cam.com/video/AA7p_lenAIY/w-d-xo.html May you always be blessed and guided to the truth ❤
Lucifer's Pawns... Infiltrators: some confused, some refusing to be born again... “Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.” (John 2:23-25) Sin No More.
The Cross is not really about forgiveness, but about the repayment of a debt: atonement. Judaism and Islam have a far deeper and more compassionate conception of forgiveness: God forgives without the torture of an innocent victim; His forgiveness is without limit.
Holland says that few people today are opposed to same sex marriage. Murray is in one. Peterson is not asking any questions Augustine or Chesterton did not ask & who both provided more coherent answers. The online world provides access to scores of learned Catholic priests & theologians, so highlighting these three who always have one eye on selling books & seminar tickets is completely disingenuous. The Church calls us to repent of our sin. What Murray refers to as his 'dog in the fight' rather than the sin that cries out to heaven and therefore cannot be considered right ordered for guiding the minds of Christians. The media has carefully arranged it so that these & others such as Andrew Doyle & Dave Ruben are considered beacons of traditional values when they are anything but.
You are correct but the point is the church does have something to learn from these men and God uses sinners all the time. We must realise that these men are reaching millions with a message that causes many to turn to God, even if these men do not themselves turn to God. But I'm sure God is not done with them yet.
Let’s proclaim the other truth, which is that the great civilization of the west has flourished thank to one foundation which is Christianity. Without that foundation, Europe has lost the essence of that civilization that has been admired and imitated. I would like to paraphrase the words of JPaul II “ Europe, young people of Europe what have you done with blood of your saints and martyrs?
Tom Holland self declared agnostic or atheist doesn’t believe in miracles or angels but complains to you as to why the church doesn’t talk about these things? And he doesn’t believe them himself. This is all intelligible to you ?
Jordan Peterson is certainly NOT an atheist....I don't even see him as an Agnostic....The spirit in me responds to him as a 'brother'....a man of God...Am i alone in this thinking?
Much atheism has morphed into a new gnosticism. Many atheists are not unbelievers, they are injured souls who aspire to be enemies of God in a desperate gesture of vindictiveness qua justice.
There is no real forgiveness in Christianity. In the Old Testament forgiveness is predicated and freely available on the basis of repentance. In Christianity forgiveness depends on lthe sacrificial death of an innocent person. The Old Testament is clear that the death and suffering of the innocent does not atone for the wicked.
HI Mark....Your thesis misses the very essence of the Christian faith... At the centre of our faith is the cross...The 'spotless lamb' sacrificed in the old testament, points to the sacrifice of Jesus ....Its this ultimate payment for sin....that enables God to forgive whoever he chooses.

I would like to share these verses of the Quran addressing the People of the Scripture (i.e. the Jews and/or Christians): English translation of the Quran, Chapter 4 verses 153 - 175,
And I would like to add 9v29 and 4v24 from the same book for your appraisal
And [for] their saying, "Indeed, we have killed the Messiah, Jesus, the son of Mary, the messenger of Allah." And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him; but [another] was made to resemble him to them. And indeed, those who differ over it are in doubt about it. They have no knowledge of it except the following of assumption. And they did not kill him, for certain.
She and they saw him die,
But someone 6 centuries later knew better than her ?
No muslim has ever ben able to answer this objection.

Thank you for your comment.
This one discusses whether Jesus actually claimed to be God: th-cam.com/video/TZoC-iPb7uU/w-d-xo.html; this one is about whether Jesus denied being God: th-cam.com/video/CxrerjcWHg4/w-d-xo.html; this one is about how the trinity verse was added to the Bible: th-cam.com/video/-CvLBJBeMl8/w-d-xo.html; and this one discusses what Jesus meant by saying that I and the father are one th-cam.com/video/Ob-Ie-OsVn8/w-d-xo.html
Further, Prophet Muhammad, being the last and final messenger sent by God to all mankind, was mentioned in the old and the new testaments by name and by his descriptions. Please watch this TH-cam video which provides proof: th-cam.com/video/d3y7GDhPd8w/w-d-xo.html
There is also evidence that he was prophesized with stunning details in other scriptures such as Hindu: th-cam.com/video/AA7p_lenAIY/w-d-xo.html
May you always be blessed and guided to the truth ❤

Lucifer's Pawns... Infiltrators: some confused, some refusing to be born again...
“Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival, many people saw the signs he was performing and believed in his name. But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. He did not need any testimony about mankind, for he knew what was in each person.” (John 2:23-25)
Sin No More.
@7:23 You made a mistake. Jesus didn't say '7 x 7', he said, '70 x 7', which is 490 times, which, as you rightly state, simply means 'without limit'.
Your entirely right.
The Cross is not really about forgiveness, but about the repayment of a debt: atonement. Judaism and Islam have a far deeper and more compassionate conception of forgiveness: God forgives without the torture of an innocent victim; His forgiveness is without limit.
Jonathan Cahn says the woke religion is actually the return of an old one: the worship of Ashtoreth.
He may well be right.
Why seeking Justice bothers you? Justice is central to the scriptures.
I thought it was seventy times seven....🤔. I do get things wrong though😂
Tom Holland self declared agnostic or atheist doesn’t believe in miracles or angels but complains to you as to why the church doesn’t talk about these things? And he doesn’t believe them himself. This is all intelligible to you ?
JP is becoming a Catholic. He has nowhere to go,,,,,
might we call them.... agnostictors?
Jordan Peterson is certainly NOT an atheist....I don't even see him as an Agnostic....The spirit in me responds to him as a 'brother'....a man of God...Am i alone in this thinking?
The name of the new religion PBC priest behind the curtain
J. Peterson is a practicing Kabbalist
He is controlled opposition in the globalist culture war, I never really liked him.
