- 22 years ago these boards were amazing and you know what, they still are. Fast and turn on rails. There are lots of classic old school boards out there on Ebay and the like. They still give huge excitement for almost no outlay. The sails still power through too.
Top notch Fun you're having there. Super jealous of the flat water and constant wind with not even a twitch at the clew. I would love some wind & water like that for my Electric Rock.
@@nigelsmith186 it’s called “The Ray” and it’s a creek that forms when the tide goes out. You get 6 hours of water like that. 3 miles long and in a S/SW wind it give flat water blasting conditions.
Still got several same Neil Pryde under 6m2 working good on new modern boards
Great sails!!
Looks great, there is one for 250$ in my area to be picked up - such an inexpensive sport(sarcasm if you want to buy new gear), first i need bigger car, then 2 boards, 2-3 sails and so on but after that it should be relatively cheap.
I own a Thommen x95, I believe a 2008 model. I think, in terms of design it is a younger sibling to your board (with a shorter length of 249cm). By today's standards, it would fall under the FreeWave category, but in its day it was referred to as a "wave slalom" board. It is incredibly versatile: stick a wave fin on it and you've got yourself a maneuver-hungry, chop devouring machine that can hold its own in onshore wave conditions Put a powerbox modern day slalom fin, and boom: you've got yourself a high wind blaster. In fact, I have a good mind to stick a cambered sail on this (specs say 6.7 max but I think 6.2 would be a more realistic limit) to see what it can do.
And unlike many of today's carbon-based life forms (sorry, boards) they don't have to be babied around. You can throw this guy in through one side of the building and will come out the other without a scratch.
I’ve just picked up a 6.0 NP World Cup slalom sail from 2000. Going to put the straps outboard and see how fast this thing can go.
You are right about the versatility of these boards. Did a mast high back loop on the 282 in El Medano. Took all I could throw at it
Ride rocks 👍🏼
Nice to see a new Video from you 👍🏼👏🏼
These designs are almost speed-needle like! Myself i use old JP freestyle wave 77L and 91L and keep using them cause they-are fast as hell and still able to bump and jump.
i Got a 2002 Hifly free 274 (122 liters) and it is very fast and reliable
I still sail my 5x F2 boards, all from 1994-2000. They were fast then and still are fast. A bit trickier to sail than a modern board? Yep, I’m good with that.
Hoping to get out more on the windsurf kit this year
