As someone who played FES and Portable, I was not expecting Shinjiro's scene to hurt so bad. But the added social link episodes and flashbacks made it hit different. He was perfectly fine with his own life being taken by Ken. But when he realized that Ken didn't plan on living either, he immediately was against the plan. And he used the last of his energy to save him.
It's way bloodier as well, with how Takaya's revolver makes his wounds spray blood, which is somewhat more accurate for how a magnum/high powered bullet wound works. For me it hit way harder than the original for its increased violence rather than the new scenes although those definitely did contribute to the sorrow as well.
@@brendansage6876 Wouldn't a gun as powerful as Takaya's have gone right through Shinji and then through Ken aswell? Shinji had the kid in a bear hug after all.
Yeah they usually do, but bullets can get stuck in the body sometimes, especially if it is a low caliber pistol, so that's probably what happened@@Da1337Man

Yeah, having played this game before the new additions to the month leading up to this new moom hit different... especially Ken entrusting Hamburger to you after. Thats an addition to Reload, so it really hit me, seeing them set the seeds of Ken considering killing himself.
@@MaxusFox23 the original kinda made it obvious too, but I really love that they added more since 1) it’s good to show ppl what ppl who might be considering death what it looks like (and makes them more sympathetic). And 2) it’s more in line with the anime. Considering P3 as a whole, they had dropped the ball massively in terms of expanding on the mentality of ppl who are literally what this game is trying to target. Plus, showing it with a 10 year old when a lot of ppl with chronic depression develop it around that time is really good.

Ohh, I just realized the hint. I played this scene like a week ago and just noticed it. The wheel lands on the red skull, but nothing happens. I killed the boss the following turn and assumed that it needed to charge the super powerful skill sort of like Arcana Hermit and its electric attack. The reason nothing happens is because Arcana Fortune isn't attacking you; it's fortune-telling Shinjiro's death. Damn those clever bastards at Atlus, lmao
In addition, Castor died from being shot in the back with an arrow, while Shinjiro was threatened with a spear and shot with a gun. What do these all have in common? Pierce damage.
I should mention... the side-effects of those suppressants... They drastically lowered Shinjiro's body temperature. That's why he was always bundled up.
That’s why everyone but Takaya is bundled up. They even have a couple of NPCs and Junpei question how Chidori is wearing so many layers on such a warm day.
If it makes you feel better when you Play Persona 3 Portable and do the FeMC Route you're able to save Shinji from dying. 1st you gotta Max out his Social Link and then you have to get a Pocket Watch and give it to him before October 4th arrives that way when Shinji gets shot the bullet will hit the pocket watch and it'll put Shinji into a coma

Heres some good news. InPersona3Portable if you play as the female protagonist you can have a social link with shinji. Also if you max his social link before this part Shinji will survive but will no longer be a party member.

I'm still wondering if Shinji's persona evolution would also be Caesar, or maybe Augustus. The Roman Empire had two emperors (actually 4 -- the Tetrarchy) after all in its late period. But we will never know. Persona 3 is a great game.
I think i kinda late to the discussion but remember the prototype of Evoker that Takaya shown to Jin, probably Shinjirou use that one when he summoned his persona, the og didn't mention it but in Reload it kinda connect the dots, now His persona went berserk was much more sense. God dammit Ikutsuki.

Background knowledge: This is the game I learned english with when I was a kid. I first played the PSP title Persona 3 Portable, then I got Persona 3 FES and now I got Persona 3 Reload. Yes, I am a hardcore fan. *SPOILERS* I knew about Shinji. I knew he was gonna die. I mean, read his persona's lore...or just the first skill he unlocks, deathbound... But I still tear up every time I see him die. He is such a great character. My favorite by far. The fact he's by far the most useful party member doesn't help me get over his death...or the aftermath. I feel with you. I just wish we could use other weapon types in the game like in P3P...would have used Shinjis weapons til the very end to honor his memory if they gave me the option... Oh well, here's hope the "Answer DLC" will fix my gripes with an otherwise perfect game.

Also his Persona's design always had an arrow-head piercing its chest kinda like a....well....you know....yeah
