A satisfying setup of the RS3M Maglev

  • In terms of what the final cube feels like, it feels really similar to my 5x5 which has also been core-magged. Comparing the core-mag RS3M to a Meilong3 is like comparing a core-mag Aochuang WR to a Valk 5. The RS3/Aochuang boasts a lot more flexibility and feel less rigid and snappy than the Meilong3/Valk5, but on their own, also less stable. Core magnets however, add a lot to the stability but only add very little to the magnetic snap, producing a stable puzzle with very fluid transitioning between turns.
A note regarding polishing: Metal polish uses microabrasive particles to smoothen a rough surface, and some of it may seep between the pieces. You don't want the metal polish grinding your internal mechanism away, and therefore, you should not turn the puzzle during or after polishing. I would recommend doing a full disassembly and cleaning the puzzle piece by piece, before you attempt to turn it again.
Angstrom lubes uses microabrasive particles as well, but it's a different grade (likely much less abrasive). It's not effective for grinding a frosted surface into a glossy one but it's good as a lube.
A note regarding the magnetic core: If you don't have a 3d printer you can use the epoxy sculpt method that I did to my Aochang WR and Aoshi GTS. It should work fine for the core. 3x3 corner bases however, have a bigger cavity than 5x5 or 6x6 corner bases. You may want to fill 80% of the cavity first, with something light like foam/crushed paper, then add some superglue to harden it, before stuffing epoxy in. Alternatively (and much more easily), Cuber's home already made core-mag conversion kits for the RS3M, and tutorials on how to use the kit already exist.
The print that was shown in the video was a test print. Usually I would print one of each piece type first and see if the printed part could carry out it's function or needed any design tweaks, then proceed with the main print, which is something I couldn't do with my SLS puzzles.
A note regarding my lube choices:
It's basically Cubehead's Yoo lube bundle but with some substitutions because have a lot of lubes that have similar functions to his combo, but are not the exact lubes. There are 4 main ingredients to this lube combo:
    1. Angstrom dignitas (no change)
    2. Standard silicone (this was the only intentional change. Used wt 3 instead of wt 5 because I initially tried this combo on several big cubes such as my Aochuang, Spark and Diansheng8. Liked the lower viscosity and the ability to mostly bypass the 'gummy phase' which happens after you don't play with the cube for a while)
    3. Fancy Silicone (didn't have mystic. Initially tried substituting with silk, but eventually switched to speedy since I like my cubes fast)
    4. Water lube (I actually have DNM, but I have a much larger quantity of Justlube shadowless kick, so I used it instead)

Is the metal polish works effectively?how glossy does the cube feel after polishing?

You need a microfiber cloth in addition to the metal polish. The cube does become as glossy as a normal cube, but not immediately. You have to clean off the metal polish first. Speedcubereview has a video on polishing cubes that you can refer to.

@@fritzharveygaray3132 For the RS3M you can buy a cuber's home conversion kit (I think it can be bought off cubicle, and they have an instruction video for it)
For Meilong 3M I wouldn't recommend as the corner splits into 3 and dosen't have one unified base.
For other cubes, you can buy some epoxy sculpt and refer to my 'Core magnets in a 6x6' video.

What type of magnets did you used on the core

4x2 I think. Can't really remember. Nowadays I used 3x1.5 N40 or N42, but it's mainly from magnetizing bigger cubes with much less empty space in the core area.

Of course. RS3M Core-corner magnet kit are available on the market anyway. Whether you print your own or buy a pre-made kit doesn't make a difference.
