It was one of the first videos I sought out when I discovered youtube in 2005. Someone uploaded a grainy low quality rip of it. I've seen yo la tengo 4 times, but it's been almost TEN YEARS since I last saw them so it's about time to go again.
Taped the video from MTV's Alternative Nation in 97 and would play it for months day in day out. That was back then when there was no TH-cam to watch your fav videos. But that cut left out all the pieces of dialogue during the rock school scenes while keeping the scenes intact.
The video itself is obviously a classic. But this is disappointing-they don’t remember much + Cross just goofs, but the real problem is the interviewer sucks. He’s not drawing anything much out or leading the discussion in any directed way. Feels like there’s a lot we could’ve learned / missed opportunity here.
I agree- David Cross is frankly just annoying from the start- with his headphone joking around -and throughout the remainder. I thought they were going to do commentary as the video was shown. There are so many great details in this video-like Ira carrying the picture of Lou Reed- and I would like to get more commentary on those details. Interviewer was not much help in his style and lack of more in-depth questions. Did get a chuckle from David’s “wtf kind of question was that?” at the end.
By far the best rock video of all time. Pure genius. An iconic song by the best band ever to come out of Hoboken and the whole world
