Have you ever used a QR code in your self-published book? If so, where did it direct your reader; and if not, is this something you’ll add to your book marketing tool box?
Funny timing - I was just researching QR codes this weekend for my website biz. There are 2 types of QR codes - dynamic and static - and one type (dynamic I believe) can be used when you think you may want to change the destination of the code. So if you had an event with a dedicated website page for that event and you generated a QR code for that page - then after it was over you can go in and change the url of the QR code and not need to generate a new one - or have people continue using one that goes to an event that has passed. In the case of a book this could be very beneficial as you can't get the new QR code into the hands of those who've already purchased your book should you wish to send them somewhere else at some point. Also...! You can use software to track the usage of a QR code - so you can find out how many ppl scan it and what type of device they use even - handy info if, for this KDP example, you aren't sure which is the most effective page to place it. There are also generators which allow you to change the colors of your QR code - so you could generate ones which better fit your branding. Thanks for all your videos Rachel - always helpful. Sorry this is such a lengthy comment!
I don't believe in coincidence! I made a QR code for the book I'm working on (medium content) I used the generator in Canva. I'm not sure if you have to have the pro account. I used it to direct the reader to a TH-cam video with further information about how to use the workbook. There is an explanation in the book but I added a "if you're more of a visual learner, scan this code for my TH-cam video about how to use" sort of blurb. I'm not sure yet how well it works as it is my first try... crossmarketing my TH-cam and my books!
Nice video about this issue... Publishing is such a permanent action that QR codes need to be on them, if our links are permanent. It would be great to have them still valid in 100 years! :-)
I’ve used them in a few books. Was wondering if anybody used one on the back cover. I want to know because I don’t want to go through the review process twice in case it’s not allowed.
You probably could, but I personally think it's best to keep the QR code inside the book rather that on the back cover so that it doesn't interfere with the design. Unless the book is something like an activity book, where it doesn't matter quite so much. Do you think you'll be using QR codes on your books moving forward? And where will you send people?
You're right! I had my camera on my desk and it was wobbling as I moved around. Oops! 😂 I stuck the camera on a tripod for the next video, so you won't see that again.
Let me know your results! And definitely think about offering a freebie so you can start collecting email addresses. It's the best free marketing method I know of.
@@RachelHarrisonSund Will do, im in the process of building a new website to have the QR go to instead of my author page. Then I can get that email list started :)
Hi Rachael, I hope you are fine, I have a problem with my advertising campaigns where no details or data appear, there are campaigns that consume all the daily budget, but there is no impression or number of clicks, I contacted support to no avail Do you have a thought? Thanks in advance.
Do you like to track your QR Codes? I want to put QR Codes in my books, but I thought tracking would be helpful so I thought about using something like QR Code generator?
No, offering a link to a freebie in your book doesn't go against any of KDP's Terms, so you're good to go! Is this something you think you'll use in your own books?
@@RachelHarrisonSund i was thinking of lunching a brand like jade summer do but i found that people are saying that if you offer a freebie on your website to collect emails this is goes against Amazon terms!!
@@algerianeagle9529 I wondered this too - the guidelines say no links to web forms that request customer information like email, etc. Maybe they mean direct links only to the form, so linking to a page with a freebie is different?

I made a kind-of reply to this just now... sorry I didn't see this first. :-)

Started using them in my book a few weeks ago.... so shall see if it helps. Im sending them for now back to my author page on amazon
On side note your camera seems to wobble a little up and down. Unless its the desk to the floor I'm seeing some bounce in the image :)
