I first visited it in summer 1974 when I was 11, bought Dr Who theme on a 45 record from the gift shop. Also visited it a few times in the 90s, as I was living quite local to Longleat at the time in Warminster.
An amazing event I remember so fondly. It was magical. Thank you so much for uploading this - our photos of this event are lost somewhere... but I shall find them! One day... yes... one day.
Glad you enjoyed it, thank you! Wonderful to see people who attended the actual event are still discovering this video, which was a pleasure to film and put together almost 20 years later!
Blimey, this was a blast from the past! Thanks so much for uploading, I was in the cyber controller costume that day and the heat was absolutely ridiculous. Overriding memories were pouring sweat out of my boots, staying still in the exhibition and jerking into life which caused a child to scream and run out of the exhibition much to the annoyance of his parents- why bring him in there in the first place being the obvious question?- and at the end of the day getting out of costume, putting my clothes on and the absolute embarrassment when I clocked that my sweat soaked boxers had soaked through my jeans and we had a 4 hour trip back to Manchester ahead of us. I'll tell you what though- I wouldn't have changed it for the world! Arguably the last really memorable event before the series returned and the atmosphere was absolutely buzzing.
An excellent piece. There are a few fans in costumes I remember seeing such as the Master, Adric (MBH) and the 2nd Doctor. Plus aliens I saw behind the scenes shedding their skin to become human once more such as the Tomb Cyberman and Sontaran who we wet with sweat. Colin Baker was amazing and I heard Sophie ask if her child (I think daughter) was doing OK. I sadly didn't get any cake...I'm not a cake eater. Though now, 18 years later, wish I got a piece and framed it as "this cake has spit on it from when Colin Baker, Sophie Aldred and John Leeson blew out candles on Doctor Who's 40th bithday". LOL David Nagel's Chimera was fun to watch being made. An excellent film given the limitations in amateur video production. A great day for all of us fans.
Thanks for watching and sharing your memories of the event Peter! All the Daleks, Cybermen and other costumed fans look amazing in the glorious sunshine (although it was seriously hot even for us not dressed up)! I didn't get any cake either! LOL
Thanks for watching! Yes, it really was a lot of fun, but seriously hot (and I wasn't in a Dalek or monster costume!) 🔥😅 There were constant rumours about a return to TV or film at the time, I think it was officially announced just a month or two after this event. 😊
I visited Longleat today and found that that big TARDIS Police Box at 0:44 is actually still there, just painted white. Good to see it hasn't been removed.

Superb! We were there, nostalgia for a really great day... We didn't even know Doctor Who would be back in 2 years!
Thanks for watching, glad it brought back the memories of a great day! :)
Oh my giddy aunt. I was the other 2nd doctor. What a wonderful day that was. Thanks for uploading this video. Such wonderful memories.
Glad you enjoyed the video, and yes the day itself was such a wonderful celebration with many happy memories! :)

Thanks very much for watching and sharing your memories from the day! I agree there hasn't been an event quite like it since.

Did you visit the Doctor Who Exhibition at Longleat? Or one of the 'Doctor Who Days'? Add a comment to share your memories!
This is really cool, Your so lucky to have gone. Great video.
Thanks, yes, it was a really special day. I'm glad to have finally edited the footage so other fans who were there or missed it can enjoy it too!
Looks like it was a fun event and to think that 2 years later NuWho would air on our screens!
