    We're doing rotating DM sessions and both Skyhorn and this have been great for getting to grips with DMing as someone who has done very little of it in the past. After running these I've felt much more confident creating my own adventures, thank you so much!

      Cult of the Reptile God is a classic, it would be super cool to tie these two together! I hope you have fun running the adventure, especially if you get to add some real-world expertise to the roles of the archaeologists. :)

    I recently found out about your adventures and it was one of those moments of "where has this been all my life?!" The organizational structure of your modules is PERFECT. WoTC should take serious F^%$@% notes about what you and your team are doing. Honestly, it's the best laid out and organized sets of adventures I've ever read. I can't wait to use every one of them.

    Going to use this module for my first time as a DM. Buffing the encounter a bit with additional monsters/increase difficulty as I will be running it for a 5-6 man party starting at level 3.
    As soon as I read this module it made me excited to run it for my first time as a DM, especially since it's so clearly written out and it has plenty of plot hooks for my players to interact with. Already had the plans to bring them to Chult, but given how this dig site is already located there, it will be a nice way to hook them into the next story :D

      NaitoNii I’m honored that you’re using the adventure for your first DM-ing session! :D Scaling it up for third level looks like it would work great. They could possibly even take on a full-sized basilisk! Have fun in your first session - welcome to the worlds behind the screen!

      oooh! That is a great idea :D
      Already had the idea to have them fight a jungle creature after they crossed the bridge, as in wildlife that roamed onto the temple grounds. But having them fight a full grown basilisk sounds like one heck of a great boss fight with the shaman and the hatchlings :D

      One thing that I found it difficult to understand and explain it to my players(yes I was the Dm :) ) was the trap door from store room and where it led. Because I thought it led straight into the sea.Finally the areas from 5 till 9 were a big cave underneath the lighthouse?Cause it had something like an ancient castle there :P

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a point of confusion for some people, and it was a bit tough to map . But yes, it's really just a big cave underneath the lighthouse. :) The trapdoor goes to the top left of Area 5!

    I have just finished this adventure today as a player and it was an absolute blast!
    Made me really curious for Tomb of Annihilation.
    One thing that sticked out to me though was the design of the trap in the temple. It seemed weird to me, that someone would design a trap that triggered after the sarkophagus was opened and possibly destroy the remains contained within.
    Traps should hinder intruders from entering or opening things in the first place, shouldnt they?
    The trap itself was definitely a fun idea, it might have been just the wrong place.
    Maybe you can take something away from my thoughts, or maybe you dont - either way it was a fun adventure and im definitely going to take a look at your other content now!

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good thought! I viewed this trap as a way for the ancient cultists to protect the egg from robbers (the water wouldn't destroy the stone egg, at least not in my headcanon). And they were a cruel cult, so I thought doing it in a mean and terrifying way would be very on-brand for them, haha! :)

  • @eliabriverareyes6858
    @eliabriverareyes6858 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Spoiler Alert!!
    Finally I could play this one-Shot. My friends love it. To be honest I kind feel was kind hard. So I decide to let them begin from level 2.
    I love the face when 2 of the player have ther limb petrified. For time and survival reason I recall de Stone Warriors and let a Hatchling. Just him was enough to give them edge and understand that it is a hard quest. They choose the Scout guide. That was super fun too.
    To sumarize the funniest thing happend. They go to the flood trap room. One PC decides to stay just where the secret door was about to shut down. This was by luck. Cuz they were so afraid cuz they just want to be sure to be prepare if someone were about to attack. So when 2 players open the sarcophagus with there eye close, I decide to make them do a dex Sav Trow to see if wete able to sustain the trap door. She fail so even tough she hurt a little bit she stop the door so close. And the other 2 just run away. One of them decide to open his eyes and find the egg. After that they think... Well we have the egg. We fulfill the mission. I was like... Really??? U guys wont have the boss fight. But Just calm myself. Poker face and continue. Since they choose the scout, I decide that the Spy & the Thug where outside to try and take the basilisk egg. That one was not too deadly. I mean... 5 vs 2. Kind tough. They have high hp but still. So i decide something. Roll survival check to see how many days they took to arrive. They took 3 days. And when they arrive... The camp was very quiet. Very lonely. And when they get inside the Grennes tent... She was petrified.
    Thanks for this awesome one shot. I cant wait to run the horror bundle. Hopefully would play it this year :D

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This is awesome, thank you so much for such a thorough write-up! :D Yep, it's definitely a killer adventure -- I wrote it to be a bit harder and more unforgiving than a typical adventure since that was the "theme of the year" with the Tomb of Annihilation adventure that released at the same time. So it was absolutely a good idea to let the players come in at level 2 for increased survivability!
      That ending is absolutely AMAZING! I love that the cultists escaped the players in the end and there were consequences.... SO COOL! Bravo for coming up with that ending! :D

    Hey, greetings from Brasil! thank you so much for this adventure, I ran it as a introduction for ToA and it worked perfectly. I'm new to this (DMing)and I almost got the party killed but it was worth it .One thing though, the group thought that the Basiliks was way too much for 1st level heros. Anyways, seeing your worked inspired me to write more. Thanks again

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm so happy to hear this worked out as a good intro for ToA. :) That's what initially inspired me to write it! Phew, almost having the party get wiped out is definitely scary, but I'm glad they pulled through. Those basilisks are definitely no joke -- they're tough to beat without some kind of environmental advantage or careful tactics. ToA is inherently a very deadly setting, which I wanted to honor with this adventure, but you're certainly right that the DM and players all have to be very careful if they don't want the risk of a TPK!

    Hello, i ran your scenario 2 days ago and it was a lot fun with a mixed group of experienced and inexperienced dnd players. Pretty heavy on fights but it made a tense evening for this brady bunch (warlock, wizard, fighter, monk and bard). Pretty cool random tables for the journey. They rested and got a visit from a triceratop, their eyes were wide open like in jurassic park! Next great moment is when they realised they were facing a gelatinous cube. We ran out of time so i skipped the betrayal part. Thanks for this great intro scenario.
    One question, in table of contents, secret lore is mentionned p. 19 but it's all about your other products. Is it normal?

With the crazy state of things having the ability to easily platform your work to online (thanks to your extra efforts) is superb. Huge thanks from a small gaming group in MA. Also just as a footnote the DMGuilds website and your material there led to finding you. I am guessing knowledge of such is useful. The video walkthrough on page 4 of the PDF has a link going to the "Skyhorn Lighthouse" video instead of this one.
    I am looking forward to running this for my group. It looks like fun. Thank you for making this so easy to use.
    Also, is it possible for me to link this adventure to the Secrets of Skyhorn Lighthouse adventure?

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah yikes, thanks for pointing that link issue out! I will fix it right away. I think it could be possible to link the two just by geography if your players move toward a coastal region from the central jungle. I've heard that most players tend to go back toward civilization following Basilisk Cult, and a bit of city adventuring in a port city would work well to level them up and then present the hooks for Skyhorn Lighthouse! :)

    What is the common pacing of this module, how many hours does it care to run on average?
    I have a 2hr timeslot to fill.

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hey Paul! :) This one runs about 5-6 hours if you do the entire thing. I was able to get it down to about 3 hours today by cutting out the sections for recruiting an NPC, the overland travel, and the skeleton combat in the water trap. I think you could get it to 2 hours if you just skip Mivvin's Rest altogether and start the PCs right in front of the temple!

    i got a question im going to dm for the first time and my players are playing for the first time as well this adventure seems really cool and fun, although i would place it on the heavy side of DnD and i would like to start them off on the lighter side eg. in a village where they can have some fun/drink/shop so they can see that in this game you are free to do what ever your character wants to do(you get my point) just to draw their antention. Now is that possible or do you think that it will ruin the actual adventure.

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      kotsios georgiou Hey! :) I think that’s totally possible, you could have the stone warriors attack anywhere and the players could strike out into the jungle from a town home base instead. I think as long as Gren or another NPC is around to give them some details, that would work great! 🤓

    I have a friend who wants me to DM a second campaign for her and her husband because they're new to the game and don't want to travel with me from DC to Philly to play in my main campaign.
    I downloaded this to use for their campaign instead of working from scratch on a second campaign.
    (Lots of useless backstory, sorry)
    My question is should this adventure get players all the way to level 2? (Or, I guess, do each of your adventures get players to the next level or would they need to be added to/elaborated upon for them to level? Like if I purchase each of your level 1, 2, 3, and 4 adventures, will my players be level 5?)

    • @TheArcaneLibrary
      @TheArcaneLibrary  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey there! :) That's awesome, I'm glad you're volunteering to DM for them! This particular adventure does have enough experience points to get most groups to level 2, but that's not strictly the case in all my adventures. The reason comes down to how long progression takes at each level, and it's super inconsistent for reasons I'm not really sure of. For example, going from level 1 - 2 takes only a few level-appropriate encounters, but going from level 5 - 6 can take around 15 level-appropriate encounters. I think that's why a lot of DMs ultimately choose to do the "milestone" variety of leveling where characters gain levels based on story and adventure completion rather than experience points. I've been preferring that method myself lately! Hope this helps. :)
