Remember for something like this it’s easy to create your own sketchbook. A zig-zag sketchbook made from an imperial of watercolor paper will give good sized pages but not too many. And smaller paper will give smaller pages that can be treated as doubles or as small pages.
Yes, but my sister wouldn’t know how to unfold one of those. I needed some thing very stable for her as a gift.

Sandy, you really blow me away, every time I see you work. I wish I was your sister and you made me a book of the birds in our backyard. We live in rural Western Australia on an acre property just out of town and try to create a haven for the birds to come to. I guess I could have a go at painting some of them…

I've done birds in other media, just not gouache as of yet. I'm more used to going dark to light but some feathers on top need to be black with birds. It's all a learning curve!

I'm in the same place, painting a massive gift for my sister. We do love our sisters don't we? Did a test piece 10x20 and now tackling 15x30. I did the test in acrylic and it took me forever. Was going to do it in watercolor with the paper attached to the canvas but now I'm undecided. Our maybe I'm just procrastinating. Gouache is new to me, I loved watching your technique.
I'm right there with you in procrastinating! I've had the 57 bird list since June, did I do anything with it til September except "ponder" it? LOL
