I am super excited to get started on the rebuild of this lathe and I am grateful to Super Clean for providing some degreaser for the project. I have big plans for this rebuild including scraping all of the way surfaces flat and adding a DRO.
Greg, you’re an animal. Can’t wait to see how she looks when she’s all done, and throwing chips! Also, your video editing is on another level. Thanks for another great video!
Did the same thing to my heavy 10...took it down to every last nut, bolt, pin, etc. Quite a few repairs and missing parts were needed. Took a full year weekends and after work. It's unreal how many parts are in a lathe. I actually enjoyed the entire process and final results were very satisfying. Looking forward to following along. 👍👍
When I get to the point of having the bed ready to go to the grinder (and the $ to have that done) I will include some details on what needs to be done.
Well this is a fine mess you've gotten us in . I like to spray WD40 as a cleaner for a maintenance step after its painted i don' think you'll want to use a brush on it WD does a good job of braking down heaver oils and grease . have fun . JM
@@MyLilMuleI've used wd to get some stuff clean on an atlas 10 I got and it works decently well to break up the grime, might have to use a soft brush (like nylon) to help agitate it some, perk of wd is it can protect from rust.
This is not nearly as bad as the inside of my K&T universal head. That thing was gross. If we get a slight break in the weather (and the snow in my backyard melts) I'm going to drag the power washer out and do a little heavier clean on the big parts.

Appreciate the high praise, Stuart. I just hope it takes me less than a year to get it back together. 😉

I just hope I don't find any really expensive surprises. It won't be cheap no matter what. Your lathe came out beautiful.
Awesome video and I am looking forward to watching the complete series!
Thanks. I'm looking forward to some of the challenges!
Bravo, thank you for sharing.....Paul
Thanks for watching!
Good job!
Thanks!
I love my 1942 build 13" x 6 foot bed......looking forward to your videos....Paul in Florida
I also have a 1942 13", 5' bed. Although at the moment, it is giving me chatter issues I haven't been able to track down.
So anyway I'm wondering if you might go to Costco get yourself a case of the blue heavy duty paper towels. This is just an idea only.
I use them, but only when needed. They are more expensive than the alternative choices.
would love to see some closeups of wear areas, maybe shoot some stills and include them in the video.....thank you....Paul

WHOA, YOU GOT THE Peanut school teacher to costar. Good catch
😂
Hope you didn't hurt your back.
I survived. :)

Never really tried WD as much of a degreaser. It's not much of a solvent, but I would imagine it'll work in a pinch. 🤷🏼♂️

Well this is ironic. I started the tear down and cleaning of my HBM. I guess we are both covered in grease and grime.
