One lovely afternoon in Austin TX over 25 yrs ago, I left work early to walk down the street and grab a quick beer at a local bar. Must've been about 4:00 PM. A bright, sunny day. It was dark inside. I momentarily couldn't see much other than one other guy sitting at the bar, also drinking a beer. Presently, he struck up a conversation. He asked, what do you do here in Austin? I'm an architect. Been here long? No, I just moved here from LA. I've spent time in LA, he says. Is that where you're from? No, I'm from Louisiana. What city, he asked? New Orleans. I've spent time in New Orleans, he says. Is that where you went to architecture school? No, I went to LSU. I graduated from LSU, he says. At this point I bought him a beer, and when the bartender set em down, I offered my hand. I'm Kevin Gallaugher. He proffered his hand. Nice to meet you Kevin Gallaugher, I'm Mose Allison. I've been a die hard Mose Allison fan ever since.
Nice story! I saw Mose once at the old Salt Theatre in Newport RI in 1975. He had a tenor sax, drummer and bass with him. I still listen to him a couple of times a week.
I'm sure you already know it, but You're a Lucky Man Kevin Gallaugher. I actually got to know this song via Bonnie Raitt's cover of it when I was in College in the 70's. Then I did some "Homework" on my own (I'm a musician), found "Your Mind is on Vacation" & a few other choice gems. The rest, as they say, is history. I wrote to him via his website a few years before he passed, expressing my deep gratitude for all he brought to our lives. His daughter wrote me back a nice email. Peace & Love, my friend. All the best. Sincerely.

I was blessed to see Mose live in the late 70s and share the planet with him for a while.
Perfect song for 2020. Miss you, Mose my man.
but not for 2022?
Yes, up to and including 2024
He inspired so many young rock musicians long before rock existed. Great man!
I love this guy.
So cool, yes indeed! 👏

He defines cool.
Dear BBC Music, thanks so much for this! Now...could you please release the rest of your Mose Allison archive? Please?
Rest in peace, Mose.
His later recordings are way better than the pre-80s ones. This one is clearly one of the best. Are there more songs of that day available?
RIP :'(
A prophet in our time if there ever was one
Thankyou Mose!
