On my 5V 60 amp sms the pot is not attached to Vcc but is in the bottom leg of the voltage divider and is grounded. When using a pot as a rheostat it is good practice to link the slider to one end. This prevents massive loss of control if the slider bounces when being turned.
It would be necessary to put a load with consumption of at least 25A and see if the voltage remains within this range, otherwise, this change may not be functional.
