Simply brilliant! This story shows how we tend to belittle all those who perform those jobs that ensure our own well-being and hygiene. Chandi performs the job of burying the bodies of dead children, and this ensures that no house would stink with the smell. And this woman is considered a witch and alienated from society. At different levels, people in general alienate and degrade so many persons who are actually ensuring our practical well-being.

Those films too were based on Mahasweta Devi's Creation who always writes about the backward classes and women. The Actual Bengali Title of This Story is 'Baayen'. Google about Mahasweta Devi, you will understand her contribution to the literature and society

+Prashanth Shastry Sir, with all due respect, I must say that isn't only about " the understanding of his mother's pain" ( as you are saying); I think it's about a vaster, deeper understanding and a huge sensitivity as well..I can easily say that the boy, has just broke through into a very old, unjust and dark mindset. For example ( just a small example), look at his father's attitude at the min: 1:31:25..Isn't it what we call " cowardice"? The boy isn't just an innocent human being, he simply is the awakened one. :)

Something i wanna share when i was a kid around 13 years I watched this film on dd national and a particular scene stuck with me from that time where the boy saw the reflection of his mother on the pond that time i was so horrified by the the look of mother as i was a kid back then really didn't understand that much cause my mother tongue is not marathi from that time till today i sometimes remember that horror i felt watching a movie scene so i always wanted to rewatch that scene but i was not being able to as i have completely forgotten the movie name but after some weird searches i finally find it today on youtube and re-watch that scene awesome acting by the mother
