Ukraine TOLD Moldova and Russia that they would honor the contract that allows Russian gas to travel through Ukraine into Moldova back in 2022. The contract expired in January 2025. Who's fault is it that neither Moldova or Russia did ANYTHING to prepare for it? They had THREE YEARS to prepare alternatives, this wasn't a surprise, Ukraine was honoring the contract signed BEFORE Russia invaded them. It's a miracle they did even that much. That kind of fireplace needs a steady but not too big fire to heat up a house, it has a big mass that keeps warm for long. However, when it cools down, it can take hours to warm up again.

Building a house in the Netherlands gas is prohibited. A well insulated house is warmed by the sun most of the time and keeping it cool is a bigger concern. At cold misty times like right now, only a tiny bit of electricity is needed. But if you are used to dirt cheap gas this knowledge will not warm your house.

It was a contract that lead to the supply being turned off. Obviously, Ukraine will not renew any agreements with their enemy. It is a miracle they even committed to honoring the agreement and kept the supply running for as long as they did. Also, every country using that pipeline had years to find an alternative, since its permanent shutoff was known to happen once the contract ended.

Varnita, where the lady lives, is a suburb of the city of Tighina/Bender, which is controlled by the pro-Russian Transnistria. Varnita itself is controlled by Chisinau but it is interconnected with Transnistria’s electricity grid and gas pipes, so they suffer similarly these days. The rest of Moldova does have gas and electricity. Russia can provide gas to Transnistria via the balkans, not sure why they are not doing that, and if they do not do that in the next month, pro-Russian Transnistria will most probably collapse.

Moldova now buys gas from Romania and could supply it to Transnistria but the separatist government there doesn't want it. Until now, Transnistria received free gas from Russia, now it would have to may the market price.

It was a contract that lead to the supply being turned off. Obviously, Ukraine will not renew any agreements with their enemy. It is a miracle they even committed to honoring the agreement and kept the supply running for as long as they did. Also, every country using that pipeline had years to find an alternative, since its permanent shutoff was known to happen once the contract ended.

It is pro-Russian Transnistria that is left without gas and with limited electricity, closed factories etc. but this also impacts some villages that are connected to the Transnistria’s electricity grid and gas pipes, such as Varnita shown in the video, which is a suburb of the uncontrolled city of Tighina/Bender.
