Taylor's NEW 657ce Bajo Quinto - What the Heck is This Thing??

- Built to reflect the sound and style of Mexican music traditions, the 657ce Bajo Quinto combines a completely unique tone profile with modern Taylor touches to offer a truly singular instrument for adventurous players. The 10-string Bajo Quinto is tuned in fourths to A-D-G-C-F, with the A and D doubled in octaves and the G, C and F tuned in unison. Back and sides of solid Big Leaf maple and a solid Sitka spruce top combine with Taylor's Grand Pacific round-shoulder dreadnought body shape and our tone-boosting V-Class bracing to produce a clear, resonant musical character that sounds unlike anything else Taylor has created. Original Taylor enhancements include a new offset bridge pin/string ramp configuration that allows each pair of strings to sing with optimal touch responsiveness without interfering with each other. The Bajo Quinto takes visual inspiration from classic Mexican styles, with a sharp Florentine cutaway offering access to the upper register, a striking white pearloid double pickguard with a matching truss rod cover, mother-of-pearl Mission inlays outlined in grained ivoroid, ebony bridge pins with green abalone dots, and gold mini-tuners. It includes a Fishman Rare Earth soundhole pickup and ships in a deluxe Western Floral hardshell case.

This instrument is used mostly in Mexican music from the north of the country. Like someone said, Los Tigres del Norte, Intocable, los Cadetes de linares, Grupo Pesado, are some classic groups that used this instrument.
Something more modern and that is currently trending a lot is Grupo Frontera. They also use this instrument.
Adding to my Spotify - thanks for the info!
The roots of this instrument go even deeper, way before these groups. Back then, it was just bajo sexto and accordion. A good example is the tiny desk concert of Flaco Jimenez and Max Baca. If you want to go down the rabbit hole, check out the Frontera collection so you can hear how the foundation of the genre was set.
I like Taylor guitars for building something different and better than the competition .
I’m a gibson player. Usually don’t have much of a taste for Taylors but I love this thing. The black with the double white pick guard is amazing.
Course, it would look perfect with a Gibson headstock.
I love the sound of this guitar. I can see it being a very useful addition to the color palette.
Thank you, Paul and Quinton.
Jinetes en el cielo is a great song including a bajo quinto solo in the beginning, love the vid ❤
This video is perfect for my bias towards Taylor Guitars, Flat caps, and Quinton's virtuosity. Thanks again for yet another enjoyable 7-minutes and 57-seconds,
that's great,
the Lobos album to check out is La Pistole y el Corazon, all acoustic album.
Thank you for the video. Very unique instrument. Fun video
Hell yeah. There’s a lot of great Mexican musicians that feature these. Los Tigres Del Norte, chalino Sanchez, intocable, some Vicente Fernández, Antonio Aguilar, just to name a few. These a pretty classic but there’s tons of bands
Thanks for recommendations! I'll be checking these groups out for sure!
For sure Quinton.
@@quintonking9960 Im a big fan of your playing. Keep doing big things, man.
Quintin Bandito..........Sounds beautiful!
Grupo intocable has one of the best bajo quinto players
For me that top pickguard is a deal breaker, hopefully it can be removed without ruining the top. Sound wise not something for traditional conjunto music. But, for accordion/sax music it should pair up really nice. Kinda interested in checking one out.
2:37 The Lowest string sounds like a Baritone Guitar which is reminiscent of the Baritone Guitars that Taylor used to make in batches.
“Jinetes en el cielo” by La Kumbre Con K has an amazing bajo quinto solo. Check it out!! It’s a Norteño version of “ghost riders in the sky” but this groups bajo quinto player is one of the best in the game in my opinion.
Seems to us Andy (Powers) "Bajo Decimo" (or "Bajo Quinto y Decimo"?) would be more appropriate ;-)
As always, great demo Doc, outstanding in fact with this Taylor.
That is for norteño mexican music.
search up El Magallanes, Froy Espitia, & Lalo Nieto
cool video guys
This instrument would be great for Oberkrainer Music
Now i'm wondering if one of these was used on Fogelberg's Innocent Age.. I can see this as a bluegrass instrument for sure.
That is one of the best albums!!!
@@folkchick1 I've been in the mood for Fogelberg lately. To the Morning, Hickory Grove, The Reach, Times like These, Wishing on the Moon, and Netherlands. I listened to that album this morning.
It's the mandodread
nice
Is it made in Tecaté?
That one is from el cajon.
Listen to Intocable
Mexican Norteño music uses that guitar.,
Is this like a Jacob Collier's guitar on steroids
Jimmy Page in his hay-day would have wore that thing out LOLOLO
I'm not a taylor fan, but i like this one, in terms of the tones and the cosmetic quality. It sounds and looks very cool. hmmmm
My dream bajo quinto🤩🤩🤩… but its 4k$😔
how is this a 12 string with only 10 tuning pegs?
Maybe cause it’s not a 12 string 🤯🤯🤯

I will never own! One of those!
Krist! EIther someone doesn't know how to play that or the action is too low with all that buzzing.
perhaps both?
nahhhh it just sounds like all taylors
Mexican bandas and norteños have a very aggressive guitar playing technique. It's supposed to sound raspy and in your face.
The instrument is only used for Norteño or Norteño Sax or as Texmex music if u wanna hear the powerful sound of it search up Max Baca he plays the original instrument called the Bajo Sexto
Why would they put someone who doesn’t know how to play it on the video?
why not, learn bajo quinto or bajo sexto or call a Mexican to do it right.
Ejele ni sabe tocar bajoquinto
