These were used to be spliced in movies so they had to be high quality.

How can you not stop what you're doing and stare when a cab forward articulated steam engine goes by? I was born a little too late! Great video - thank you.

Another interesting tidbit of knowledge is if you focused beyond the tracks before the trains arrive you can see in the background a black line runnin parallel to the SP tracks. That is the route of the Pacific Electric Street Car, also owned by the SP. I believe it ran up to the Burbank Line which veered off toward North Hollywood close to where the Burbank Tower sat.

The overhead trolley wires are visible, too!

Some excellent footage there. I too saw the man carrying the young girl and Polio crossed my mind but then she wasn't wearing any braces which were pretty common place if you had that affliction and could afford them. I am always amazed at how well dressed everyone used to be. I do agree with your analogy that it is during WWII or maybe just after hostilities ceased. Both trains had plenty of head end cars filled with mail and such. I did view the colorized version and that too was interesting. Thanks for all your efforts.

Not only are the well dressed, but you seldom see any people that are overweight.

@@douglasjackson5007 I was born in 1950. Not only few overweight adults, but overweight kids were almost unheard of. There was an overweight boy in my schools, but I think he had a medical condition. We kids played outdoors a lot, PE in school. Gym class in junior high, high school, and college with open locker rooms and showers.

Always love seeing those Espee cab-forwards.
2:51 That C&NW car is a long way from home rails.
Can never go wrong with Glenn Miller as one's musical selection.

At 3:41, a man gets off the train carrying a young girl. Is she just tired, or did she have polio? Polio vaccines were still a decade away.

I think you nailed that scene. I'm old enough to recall seeing that from time to time when polio was so prevalent.

If you feel like you've seen this footage before, but with color and sound, you have--it's part of a colorized, dubbed TH-cam video: th-cam.com/video/aq2Ig-p9WNs/w-d-xo.html

Certainly during wartime from all the sailors and soldiers present. Trunks on the palm trees in the background haven't been "shaved" either. A wartime luxury LA couldn't afford?
