    It's silly, but what prevented me from using Shortform is the pride of thinking "I read that book" instead of "I read a summary of that book". But what you mentioned in this video goes the opposite: Shortform is useful for finding what NOT to read. Instead of buying an average or bad book, you can read the summaries in Shortform and only buy the books that matter. Thanks!

      Yes, I really struggled with that too! Reading a summary is nowhere near as satisfying as reading a book. It's kind of like being able to watch trailers on Netflix before you see if you can commit to watching the whole thing.

    Thank you for your videos! I love your objectivity, but also appreciate your use cases, all in a concise delivery. It's hard to find that kind of content on YT. I'm not a programmer, but have learned more about Obsidian than all others. This is after 10yrs of Evernote, 3 years of wrestling with Notion and so many other tools in this space. You've honestly brought peace to my mental quest to capture and USE my information. Thank you!

      Wow, thank you, Spencer. I really appreciate that comment. It's extremely rewarding to know I've helped you in my own small way. I appreciate you!

    Thanks so much for sharing what makes Shortform such good alternative to Blankist. I was eager to sign up with your affiliate link (of course) but the pricing on Shortform gave me such sticker shock I had a conniption and had to take a minute. There is no way I will sign up for a service that expensive that is of such limited use. I'm sure the pricing is driven by the cost of licensing material but either way as an end user, there is an upper limit that I would pay for this and I'm thinking $10 USD /mo TOPS!

      Hi Sean! I totally understand! The reality is that the kind of comparison and fact-checking they do is not cheap. For me, it's still worth it for how many books they stop me from buying, and for the time they save me in fact-checking stuff myself. But I can understand if it might not be worth it for you. :)

      I felt exactly the same way. Too expensive.

    Thank you for this introduction to Shortform. That service really sounds fascinating. I guess, it's only based on English-written books?

      You are in for a treat, enjoy, just overdose, do them all, then go back to the ones that have bearing on what you want to do in obsidian.

    Wow, what a good find!!! I am a lazy monkey jumping from one tree to other without staying enough on one tree. Inside of something cries to get the `Lay of the Land` . To be honest I did not finish reading any books, so far, for past 25 yrs. Taking a challenge , as of now I know the `Lay of the Land` with shortform , I know where I stand , how far I need to go to agree/disagree with author or with my fellow readers

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly! It does a lot of the work of being a critical reader for us. I love it!

    0:01 also "Over 50% of Americans haven’t read a book in the past year" lol. Still I'm part of the 50% that likes reading so this video is awesome

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm not American, but I love reading too! :) Shortform just helps me figure out which ones are worth reading.

      Yeah, that was a huge thing for me too, when I found that out! Here's a video that goes more into detail about using Kindle > Readwise > Obsidian: pulse.ly/j936vxbhae

    Great video, Nicole, but pricing is prohibitive. I subscribe to some services (some of them I use heavily) and I'm already paying a significative amount of money. Shortform is really interesting. I understand that reviewing the material requires qualified editors, but Shortform's subscription is expensive in dollar and waaaay more expensive for those living in Brazil. Hahaha! 😂

    I wanted to point out that the url link on your blogpost didn't reference your shortform affiliate link but linked to your readwise affiliate link.

    Shortform is it different from Wizdom app?

  • @rfb411
    @rfb411 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Nicole - thanks for another excellent video. I hadn't heard of Shortform and I'm now at risk of falling down another rabbit hole - nudged by you! Since a video of yours made sense of Obsidian for me some months ago, I've found both (Obsidian and your channel) to be the most useful resources I've engaged with in the past 12 months. I've just signed up to Obsidian Sync, and have played with a Readwise free trial - I'll be signing up when funds permit. I suspect I'll eventually be unable to resist Shortform, too! Take care and keep being awesome.

    • @nicolevdh
      @nicolevdh  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oof, sorry about that! :D Obsidian Sync, Readwise, and Shortform--- yeah, those three are all awesome services I gladly pay for! Thank you so much for your nice words and you are awesome too! :)

    You might not know but Shortform and they is using the free trial to charge people. I decided to try by your suggestion and earlier before the free trial end I wrote them to request to cancel it as I couldn't do through the app they respond no account was active, then after some days charged my card almost 160€, I am now complaining and ask for refund and they are nicely trying to refund me 50% just because they are good to customers. In twitter I have already seem complaints on the same. It is completely unfair for me to pay 80€ to not even use this app and having had request a refund. So, folks... don't fool yourself with this company. This is a dirty way to make business, you can keep people's money because of the term of service but this is completely wrong using the free trial to do so. When a customer advise they don't want to continue, cancel it. Shame on you @shortform! If you delete my comment I will copy and past over an over again, my aim is to protect users.
