I'm using a membrane keyboard. At least until my mechanical keyboard I have on order arrives. I like the quietness of my Logitech Illuminated Keyboard K740. They named it "illuminated keyboard" because it literally was their first keyboard with backlight. I've been using it since. The membrane is starting to fail and I've had to cut and splice the cable a few times due to the rubber insulation becoming hard and brittle so I'm getting a new keyboard. Point is, this thing is VERY quiet.
I honestly prefer membrane keyboards. I think it's a nostalgia thing for me, but it's just the way the keys sound chunky that makes it satisfying to use. Plus, I'm not a fan of RGB lights anymore, so my new Logitech wireless comfort keyboard was well worth the $40 I spent at Staples.
@@user-ig2qu4fx9x you can always just set the RGB to white. Honestly, that's what ends up looking the best anyway. I bought a Redragon K668 which was 47 USD with a coupon. Tinkering is not for everyone, but as my filament 3D printer can attest, I love tinkering. You can also set the RGB to off as well as switching it to match holidays. Red and green for Christmas for example. Membrane keyboards do feel kinda mushy, but that's also because of the nature of its actuation. However, they're quite silent. Here's what won me over to mechanical: the L key is starting to not register. When keys start to fail, the whole membrane fails. On mechanical keyboards you just replace the one switch. And paired with a easily replaceable cable, you got a keyboard that will last for many years.
still using my membrane keyboard I got in a bundle with a mouse for 45 euro. 10 years later and thousands of hours in games. Im just so used to the feel and idk this one has a sasifying feeling for me and the pressure to press them is good for me. Only replacing it when it breaks haha

@@Ballador I used to have one of those years ago.. That was an absolute HORROR to type on >.< cool concept, easy to stuff in a backpack, but aside from that there was nothing actually good about that
I had an all silicone keyboard in high school! It was hot pink and had zero thonk or clack or anything, as it was a membrane roll up one. What it did have going for it was it was a good decoy for cats to sit on and it was wholly immune to spills as it could just be rinsed off. Worse than a laptop for typing experience, but much less anxiety when you spill peach juice all over your keyboard (thankfully the keyboard I did that to was the old school mechanical and each key was in a little cup of sorts to hold the spring and thus pcb was wholly isolated from above, and i was able to clean it up and it was fine, but that was why I decided to try both cups with lids and a waterproof keyboard). Yours is a much better typing experience though, and definitely easier on the eyes.
So basically keyboard switch tester. Not exactly a novel idea that has any real use beyond being inconsistent with actual use as everything will have different feel, actuation, etc.
I like when you make videos like this, where it isn't sponsored content about the next greatest budget board of all time. It's nice to have a video about a board that you just thought was weird or interesting.

Have you ever used an actual antique typewriter? Like a early 1900s underwood? My grandparents had one and it was my first experience with a keyboard. To call it a unique introduction is an understatement. My daughter still gives me a strange look when I say hit return instead of enter. Also, there is no less forgiving keyboard than that one. Accidentally punch two keys and you'll see what I mean. I think you'd make a very enjoyable video out of using an underwood, and there are plenty of antique typewriter youtubers who would enjoy doing a collaboration with you. Maybe they could try your keyboard on their channel for a change of pace. Not sure if you'll try it, but I figured I'd throw the idea out here for ya.
Ngl i kinda liked it without tape mod lol. Very suitable for the office. While silent switches could have the same sound effect, they don't feel good to type on.
Hear me out. A market for these would be for kids learning to use computers and typing. Fun silicone keycaps and keyboards are perfect for young kids. My toddler at 5 would love these.
3:52 so does actually maintaining manufacturing tolerance. Its expected if the thing is super cheap but at the prices i was seeing they should be pretty solid.
I've had these keycaps for a couple years. I love them. Highly recommended. I know you said that because they're silicone they'll pick up dust easily, but that isn't my experience at all.

There ARE "silicone switches", it's what "membrane" keyboards use. And although I'm not sure what material they're made of, there are flexible PCBs as well, I think both of those additions would complement a "silicone keyboard" really well, as it would be completley flexible, wich is really funny to think about
Hipyyoooo… on May 16th Nuphy is going to release the Nuphy Halo75 v2… aaand besides a small “badge” in a corner I think it may turn out great for 140$. I find this channel massively ironic, since those that type very often for work, will very likely not want anything less than a keyboard with a keypad, home, end etc etc buttons to speed up our typing process. As most keyboards on this channel are like 65 or 75%. Then again, i appreciate this channel because learning about how to get the perfect ASMR sounds or feels while working is always great. And i learnt so much about finding that sound from my keyboard.
those who type very often for work dont actually use full sized, there are ergonomic options, and you can always use layers to access specialized functions. additionally, having extra keys and a keypad can actually slow down your typing speed, as argued by vim users, where the entire point is to not move the position of your hand at all in order to be efficient.

It would have been nice to have a comparison with "normal" keycaps in addition to the silicone ones. I know it wouldn't quite fit with the conceit of the video, but it's hard to judge the case with the silicone keycaps. Maybe make a short and mention at the end of the video?
i'd love to get into keyboard building but the only thing that's stopping me is that the idea of not having a leather wrist rest is horrifying to me (i'm currently using a razer huntsman elite v2)
@HypyoTech, can you do a video on alternative layouts? I'm a fan of the 60/65% with "split backspace", like the HHKB. I have not found a good resource that would list them.
