The problem is they're arguing past each other. If you're asking who is the best player or top 5 best players today, are you looking at resume or ability today. Giannis' DPOY and MVP make him the greater player overall, but they don't matter when talking about his ability today. You ask any GM or coach who they would want for the remainder of this season, Wemby is probably number three behind Joker and SGA.
It’s insane how Wemby is in top 10 conversations. He’s producing at a superstar level at year 2, and he’s barely going to turn 21. Regardless of recency bias, the fact that he’s playing at this level at this early stage of his career almost guarantees he’s going to be the best in the league in the next 2 years or so, barring injury. If the Spurs make a playoff appearance and Wemby’s production stays consistent enough to make a series competitive, it’s undeniable that he’s a top 7 player by the end of the season

I think I watched enough Wenby's game to say: Although his defense is probably the best, and he has monster number recently, his half-court offensive game is still pretty raw. It gave me the feeling that he can only shoot 3s in the half-court, still can get lost, doesn't know how to be a big man in half-court offense sometimes. Right now, I think he's definitely not better than Jokic, Giannis, SGA, Tatum, Luka(injured). And I don't think the Lakers can get better if he replace AD. Top 10 player for sure, top 5 not yet.

Giannis is way more consistent offensively than Wemby. This is why he is leading the NBA in scoring. Offensively Giannis is in another tier. 3. Wemby and Giannis are very comparable this season, but I would give the nod to Giannis. Wemby absolutely deserves a seat at the table because of his defensive impact and the offensive impact he is starting to show more consistently. 4. For December Wemby is a top 5 player. For the season I'd say top 10.

Giannis is a better 2 way, he can get you the production defensively and gives you way more offensively
Gianni’s only gets you 7 more points, he is more effective at what he does but wemby is definitely more versatile offensively than Gianni’s and one can argue that wemby holds a bigger gap in defense over Gianni’s than Gianni’s holds on offense over wemby.. if you watch every game you can clearly see how much wemby deters around the rim as offensive players don’t even look at the rim if wemby’s close by and even when he’s not I’ve seen players miss open layups due to them rushing their shot in fear of wemby being anywhere near them.. now I think as of now Gianni’s is a better player but one can argue that wemby is a better 2 way player than him

It’s insane how Wemby is in top 10 conversations. He’s producing at a superstar level at year 2, and he’s barely going to turn 21. Regardless of recency bias, the fact that he’s playing at this level at this early stage of his career almost guarantees he’s going to be the best in the league in the next 2 years or so, barring injury. If the Spurs make a playoff appearance and Wemby’s production stays consistent enough to make a series competitive, it’s undeniable that he’s a top 7 player by the end of the season

I think I watched enough Wenby's game to say: Although his defense is probably the best, and he has monster number recently, his half-court offensive game is still pretty raw. It gave me the feeling that he can only shoot 3s in the half-court, still can get lost, doesn't know how to be a big man in half-court offense sometimes. Right now, I think he's definitely not better than Jokic, Giannis, SGA, Tatum, Luka(injured). And I don't think the Lakers can get better if he replace AD. Top 10 player for sure, top 5 not yet.

1. Wemby has been consistently the best or second best defender in the NBA since his rookie year. So he's proven his defensive prowess, it hasn't only been 20 games. And this season he is by far the best defender in the league, it's been a while since the gap between the best defender and second best defender was this wide.
2. Giannis is way more consistent offensively than Wemby. This is why he is leading the NBA in scoring. Offensively Giannis is in another tier.
3. Wemby and Giannis are very comparable this season, but I would give the nod to Giannis. Wemby absolutely deserves a seat at the table because of his defensive impact and the offensive impact he is starting to show more consistently.
4. For December Wemby is a top 5 player. For the season I'd say top 10.

Arguments should require ppl to know the topic, it’s obvious some of these guys haven’t watched the Spurs. As a 2 way player Wemby is top 5 as of late due to its offensive improvements, and there are no one at his level in defense, and the argument about past achievements for other players is irrelevant when we talk about current season.
Hard to argue when people use different metrics and push the goalpost, it’s obvious that people care more about offense than having a 2 way player, can’t wait to see Wemby score more, if he gets up to 28-29 points it will help.
