when I think of pockets and gothic lolita I can't help but think of these nicely black laced edges being on the pockets with cute buttons to button the pockets up
I finally finished the skirt and I absolutely LOVE IT!!! I made it with a normal waist band instead of the elastic since I didn't really like how the skirt was gathered with the elastic (sewing in the zipper was an actual nightmare, I don't recommend it at all😭) and I made a detachable bow to hide the top part of the zipper
Thx for this! I’m trying to dress like gothic Lolita fashion but I’m broke so I can’t buy an already made dress! I haven’t watched yet so idk if it’s going to be cheap but I have a bit of my own money that I may be able to spend for this! (I am a minor so i technically won’t be rich until I’m old enough to become rich so- thanks for the tut!)
Hey, I love this tutorial and would love to make this skirt one day. But I'm having a hard time figuring out how much fabric I'd need. Could you please tell me how to most easily determine this?
I think I got three yards, but didn't use all of it. The main part of the skirt should be three times your waist measurement. I would say 1.5X your waist for the main part, plus a yard or so for the frills and bows
Carakia Darkheart i honestly don’t remember the exact amount of fabric it used, but if it’s for cost oh could use broadcloth in the same color instead of cotton.
Hi there! I know you might not see this- but I was wanting to make my own dress to go with a new petticoat I got. I haven’t sewn before but am getting help from someone who has seen dresses before. Do you think this would be easy enough for me to try? By the way, amazing video!
Hello! Overall, the skirt is mostly just a bunch or rectangles gathered and put together, so I don't think it'll be too hard, especially if you've got help! ^.^
Carakia Darkheart essentially, Yeah. So you close the rectangle into one big loop, pick whichever side is going to be the bottom, and roll hem that one. The other side can stay raw until the waistband goes on
Sorry for the delayed response! 3/4" elastic would definitely work! If you're worried about the skirt being too heavy for the elastic you could make two channels (same idea but make a 1.5" tube and then put a seam in the center to make two .75" channels) for extra stability.
I'm a little confused about the ruffles. It says 6x waist measurement (2x waist measurement) in the video. Does that mean i have to do 6 strips of fabric that are 2 times my waist measurement 😅? Love your video by the way ❤️
It's been a while since I made this, but I'm pretty sure it was meant to be 6x the waist measurement or 2x the skirt piece (so twice the length of the piece that is 3x the waist), if that makes sense. Sorry, I know it's a little hard to follow.
This is one of the most straight forward tutorials I have found. Thanks. But I'll be adding pockets to mine.
TBH I wish I had added pockets to it.

Hard same. This tutorial was so clear. And also, yes pockets. Everything I make will have pockets.
i love how there's cat hair on everything, 'cause same :D
i used this to make my prom dress and it turned out perfectly!! thanks for making the video! ^-^

Is the starting rectangle 3x waist total or per rectangle? Thanks!

@@Zaolan123 when you made the frills, how much fabric did you use? I got 5 yards and I seemed to be running short - what could I use as a solution?
Carakia Darkheart i honestly don’t remember the exact amount of fabric it used, but if it’s for cost oh could use broadcloth in the same color instead of cotton.
Oh wow! This is so CUTE!!!!😍
it looks great!
hi i love this tutorial :) can u lmk exactly how much black cotton was used so ik how much to buy?

Zaolan ah, okay! Thank you so much for answering!
It’s very easy for a beginner
Where did you get that fluffy petticoat?
I made it ^.^
Zaolan woah😍
Aww, super adorable ❤
Me facino adoro los vestidos gothic lolita son hermosos
@Zaolan did you write the measurements right? Because I ended up with a 7ft rectangle and I don’t feel that right
I think so. The main skirt piece gets gathered at the top to the right size
Zaolan ohhhh okay I was just worrying. Thanks!
I'm gonna try this-
Heck yeah! Let me know how it goes!
I will~!
Okay so for the rolled hem part, do I just leave the loop as the loop and sew over bother layers?
Carakia Darkheart do you mean when you hem the bottom of the pieces? Fold the raw edge over twice and stitch it down all the way around the loop
Zaolan oh, okay, gotcha
@@Zaolan123 wait just have one more question - so all around the whole loop so its kind of like a closed off rectangle?
Carakia Darkheart essentially, Yeah. So you close the rectangle into one big loop, pick whichever side is going to be the bottom, and roll hem that one. The other side can stay raw until the waistband goes on
Carakia Darkheart this was one of my first videos, so it’s definitely a little vague 😅
Not sure if you will respond to this but i started this skirt and i realized i bought 1 inch elastic instead of 3/4 could i still use it?
Sorry for the delayed response! 3/4" elastic would definitely work! If you're worried about the skirt being too heavy for the elastic you could make two channels (same idea but make a 1.5" tube and then put a seam in the center to make two .75" channels) for extra stability.
Ok thank you for responding! The skirt is going well :)

i was confused on that too
How long did it take to make?
Btw amazing video❤
It was kind of a while ago, but probably a day or so?
That bow reminds me of Kiki's Delivery Service.
Wonderfull!!!
This is cute as. 🥰
Can you show us. How to make a fluffy. Petticoat?? Plzzzz
It's a little old now but I do actually have a petticoat video on this channel :)
