Hey Matt, I have one piece of advice (admittedly I didnt listen to this advice when it was given to me, and it cost me a ton of time and aggravation). Take a few days, and build yourself a large solid work bench. it will make every other project you do go so much faster and easier, you will make the time back and then some. Good luck guys, love the content.
This 100x. Imagine a solid bench on which you screwed down two pieces of wood at 90 degrees - how much quicker those corners being screwed together would have been.
Every house I’ve bought and renovated, first thing I would do is build a proper work bench. It would make my wife nuts, she’d say we have so much to do besides your work bench. If you don’t do stuff to make the wives have something criticize you about, they’ll find something. So make it easy for them like a large purchase or workbench. Then you won’t have to wonder why their pissed. Lol
For the next batch (as a vet, let me tell you, there will always be another batch), kittens' ears open at about a week, eyes by 2 weeks, and teeth by around 3 weeks. For orphans as soon as you see (or feel..) the teeth, you can begin feeding canned kitten food mixed with formula and by 4-6 weeks transfer to kitten food alone. I offer crunchy food as soon as I begin feeding canned, as soon as they start eating that, you can stop the formula and canned food. Hope your vacation was great and hope Bear is feeling better too!
You can get an electric fence that will corral the goats in a small area. They can clear out the vegetation and you can move it to another area on the property to clear out that area. Conservation areas use them all the time to remover invasive species.
I had a friend that cleared 10 acres moving the fenced in area.the goats just eat about everything they can reach.wall looks great ! do you miss sailing?I see a dinghy!!
Goats are amazing and one of the best things I hired when I had land to clear. They’ll eat brush, leaves, twigs and only eat grass when there’s nothing else left. They’ll pick off the flower heads and eat the leaves but they’ll leave the stalks, which holds the soil in place. Goats defecate a lot and their hooves stomp the pellets into the soil fertilizing it. Goats don't reseed from their waste droppings due to an advanced digestive system. They irrigate, a pint at a time, with nitrogen-tinged urine. They eat just about anything, including plants that are poisonous to other animals.
Livestock needs room, good advice but a two pen setup would be, might be advisable. The goats would eat in one pen, while the other pen replenished the grasses that was eaten.
hey good afternoon you guys hope you guys are having a great afternoon Happy New Year's you guys and I'll be careful out there I'll be able to get that thing fixed for the goats and the all right guys have a great day and God bless you guys
Wow, it's so sad that it seems like nobody else in the area seems to care much about the baby kittens that need a home other than Matt and Kristin. Bless your hearts for loving the animals Matt & Kristin! ❤
I just have to say again how much I love your music selection!!! ❤ 🎉 Also, THANKS SO MUCH FOR CARING FOR THE KITTIES IN YOUR AREA! AS A VIEWER, IT'S GREAT TO SEE YOU USING SOME OF YOUR TH-cam $$ TO GIVE BACK 🎉 YOU TWO ARE AWESOME!!!🎉😎
You did a amazing job editing this and we'll there is no one like Matt out there. I been watching since key west. You two are my favorite on TH-cam. I love what you put out there for all of us. I wise you love and happiness for the new year.
Hi guys! Please consider investing in a compound mitre chop saw. The time you save is worth the price. It looks like you will have a lot of use for it going forward. Happy New Year!
I love this property! Try to learn how to cut half lap corner joints for your next set of panels. It will make them less susceptible to racking and is a much tougher joint. You can cut them with your circular saw. Save the mitered corners for picture frames and trim.
We don't need no stinking radial arm saw! Great job with the Craftsman Matt! There is a new name for tough...Kristin. WE have all dropped something on our big toe...IT HURTS! I think running is better than going to the clinic. You guys are killing it in PR. Really really enjoying Kristin's video skills. Looking Good GBU! Have a great vacation, you guys deserve it.
Our cat is about the same age having similar issues as Bear. She is reluctant to eat dry cat food, but is stoked to eat soft can food, seems to be helping along with her meds. Our prayers go out to Bear , the rest of your family of animals , and your new adventures!
Goat kids are so much fun they are born as rockets with roofs and are not aware of gravity and its supposed rules as they can run on ceilings and will you will see
I just wanted to take a second to tell you. Thank you so much for all your hard work and for giving us. The 30-minute shows it's much appreciated. Thank you so much and good luck With all your projects and have a super great New Year.
Matt ! you do great work , me as a retired carpenter/ contractor can appreciate your efforts. I consider myself an expert in the construction industry and noticed something’s that would improve your skills . When cutting with a circular saw place the saw plate on the standing end ,it will be more stable and a better cut . But that’s my observation 😊
I noticed that, too. But he is a lefty and I worked with a couple and they have their own form and work-around. I had a boss with a porter cable lefty saw. It sucked for me, a righty! I hardly ever bought porter cable in the future! I do have a few tho left over from my timber framing business. But my right elbow is shot. I don’t want surgery tho. So I THINK I can still finish a few projects before I am dead. I live in Montana in “summer”. I am 67 now and living on my sailboat in the Florida Keys. Not dead yet.
First off thanks so much for all that you do for all the cats and other animals you come across! I love the goats and their triangle barns 😅 they look amazing and strong for them to romp with. I hope Bear gets better soon!❤
Have yourself an awesome blessed vacation.if you want to keep the goat house dry,use a half width of sheating, end screw it to the front edge like a porch roof
My wife and i have five cats a dog all fixed also feed strays we are not rich but manage to get our pets fixed it hurts the wallet too have a heart so i know how it is thanks for takeing care of the strays yaw are good hearted people ❤ 18:2518:25
You can always build and add drop in pannels to increase your stock pen. If you make them with drop pins you can move your fence anywhere and make it any shape that suits your needs. You might look into premade stock pannels and attach wire mesh to confine your goats. These pannels are good for all and any livestock including cattle, horses, goats just add wire mesh
Hey Matt, the original “Goat Man” was in the ‘50’s. He pulled a wagon with goats & herded another 20-30 goats along the highway… supposedly in 50 states but I only saw him in FL when I was a kid. I wish I could include a picture that was on line when I googled him. Great memories!!!
When your cutting sheet metal for roofing and such, best tool for the job is a nibbler, they attach and are bowered by the drill. Because they don’t throw sparks they don’t damage the coating on the metal and keep it from rusting, and you won’t go though so many cutting discs. 🤙
The goats look happy! When you build the next goat house (admit it- you WILL be getting more goats) leave a little of the metal roofing to overhang the front face. It will act like a drip channel and help keep the water out. Best of luck to Bear.
For your top rail joints, get a few pieces of pvc pipe about 2 1/2” or so and cut one side out that will fit over the 2x4s and secure the sections. You could screw the section one for some permanence and do the door one as simply a pop on and pop off. As an alternate, if you can find some tube steel or channel iron that fits over a 2x4 that would work well and could be hinged to flip up and back for portability.
I reinforce all of my corners with triangular 9o degree angle cut ten inch by ten inch minimum (more is better) 9mm or half inch thickness exterior plywood, glued with polyurethane glue and screwed in place using galvanised timber screws which also clamp the timber until the glue is set. Make sure that these screws are not too long and do not go all through the timber. These reinforcements are useful for fitting latches as well, and it one puts them over all of the joins, it makes the structure so much stronger. This is of course only for structures with wire netting or shade cloth or some other fabric on them. I applaud what you are doing for animals, I think you are special people. The sort of neighbours lucky people get to live alongside.
Please make just a small vid of your holiday. Miss the boat stuff but like a million others we spend holidays staring at the walls. We live vicariously though you
I know you keep Bear inside but you need to make sure she gets daily exercise walking to make her digestive tract function properly and maintain her overall health. 👍🙏🏼😎✌️
Back in the 80s, when I bought my first house, the first major tool I bought was a chop (miter) saw. The time you save making multiple cuts is well worth it. I really enjoy you video. Have a very happy New Year!
If you put some rods or brackets or something on that goat House, sticking out over the open area, you could run canvas or something up and over to keep the rain out of the shelter, but because it’s canvas, it wouldn’t endanger the animals. Or you could just extend the roof if you have some more of your metal paneling just remember to cover up any sharp edges where the goats might be walking.
HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS! Thank you for the 52 videos of extraordinary entertainment you provided me all this past year, 2023. Keep up the excellent work. Se you in 2024!
I been looking at you 2 now and again since the lock down and I must say you both lovley peaple and the time you take out off your lives with helping the cats and others is so Wonderfull and kind wish they was more people like you please I wish you both all the best with all you do happy new year to you both and to bare and others ,,ps my cats 20 she struggling but still going thank god xxx to you both
Matt, Instead of drawing a line with your speed square and then cutting with your circular saw...use your speed square as a guide and slide your circular saw along the edge of the speed square to make your cut...it's more accurate and faster... Happy New Year
Hopefully Bear is doing better, she is such a beautiful cat. I think she has the most amazing eyes I've seen in a cat, stunning. You guys are so amazing with the animals, I hope you have a wonderful time away.❤👍
Yes, I believe that as well. Get your animals fixed. We have two beautiful cats there up there an age we had them fix when they were just babies. I am so happy that you guys are putting your all into all of these for babies. It’s stressful but I think it’s wonderful.
🐐Haahaahaappy New Year, Matt and Kristen!! May 2024 be good to you and your Puerto Rican animal kingdom /paradise!! You two really make a great couple/team.
Been watching for a couple years now as you progress from po' white boat trash to big time plantation owners and now to crazy cat ladies, boy you guys really go ALL in!
Let's take a minute to appreciate the expert film making with appropriate music to go along with it. The close ups, rhe time lapses... brilliant. 🎉😂❤ Happy new year!!
Hi Matt, when you're cutting mitres freehand, use the mitre square to run the saw along as a guide. The mitres will be way easier to cut and more accurate
Thank you for all your hard work and mine I sit back and watch all you alls hard work thank you again Matt and wifey to be happy new year's too you and your family and goats, chickens, and kitties
You guys are awesome my husband has been watching you for about a year now and I decided to watch now you're on land .I just want to let you know I'm so impressed with you two are beautiful people and doing what you guys do on the show is so encouraging .Matt I do want to mention when you are cutting or sawing please keep your right hand away from where your working a few time I've noticed you come close to getting cut. So watch closer ok LOL. HAPPIEST OF NEW YEAR TO YOU BOTH
Take care of bear with the constipation. I had a constipated Kitty for over 6 years, the more they get constipated the more they are predisposed for future cases of constipation. A quarter teaspoon of Miralax in the wet food everyday works really well. Have a very happy New Year!
Hey just a fyi electric fencing won't shock chickens easily if ever thru there feathers but will keep predators out it will shock goats but after first time they learn to stay away from it WORKS VERY WILL AND ITS INEXPENSIVE AND MOBLE EASY TO MOVE IT I think it's a perfect fit for what your needing there !
Older kitties easily get dehydrated and backed up. Cats are opportunistic drinkers - they dont normally seek water but if they see it they will drink. Giving older cats chicken broth or tuna water from canned tuna can also encourage them to drink more. We always mixed extra water or broth with any food we fed our senior cats. All lived from 16 - 21 years. 😊
The goat house needs an awning. The gate needs a seven foot 2x4 on either side of the gate and a board across the top. Then you can make a sign that says OK Corral.
We want to sail.... But we have sheep, and chickens, and rabbits and cats and dogs and honey bees and our home we built ourselves here in the southern Appalachians. I started watching while you were still on the water and I find it humourous that we seem to be going in opposite directions. We just bought two sunfish to learn how to sail... Keep on living the dream... Whatever that dream may be. Thankyou
The Double-D ranch is growing with each episode. Great to see the love for the animals. Might want to carve out the space for the pasture now as you are heading in that direction at a quick pace.
Hi matt and christian, Enjoying your all's Expertise and enjoy your natural surroundings. Goats cats and chickens are cute, Been watching You all forever. Thanks as always a catch you next sunday❤❤❤
After a while they’ll be able to climb any fence unless you cap it off. Doesn’t matter if they’re mini. And they need to climb. They just have to so build climbing things in their pens. We have 7 and multiple births.the goats will chew those wires.I don’t think you’re supposed to go. Just make a hang over above your entrance. Two triangular pieces
The first goat shack you make for your enemy's the second for your friend the third for your self yep the tin on the goat shack could have had more over hang to keep rain off and out of the structure good job ❤😊 Happy New Year guy's
My friend has a goat pen on his yard that as no bottom but is on wheels and small. The goats push against it and steer it around the yard hence feeding and mowing at the same time.
Hey guys. Great video as usual. A couple of tips from someone who has been there done that. All the rigidity in the roof comes from sheets when they are screwed down. No braces required. The other one don't cut through the tin sheets, just cut it to the length of both sides and just cut through the ribs and bend the sheet over the apex. Good luck on your next project
Howdy from the Texas Hill Country. We love all of your videos. Love your lap goats. They're so stinking cute. Bless you for rescuing all the kittens. Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what you have up coming in the new year.
great year for you in the homestead guys , loving the progress and hope you both have a superb 2024. the brick turned hole side up in the goat mountain is a leg breaker waiting to happen ...just haying. HNY

Malsup is absolutely right. I finally built an 8x4 table and life became a lot easier…

I was thinking the same thing...and a few pair of horses/ponies.
I'm sure he/and Moma feel's the same but they y'all be i8n a hurry

Always another batch…. As a cat and kitten foster, you’ve got that right! 🫤
You can get an electric fence that will corral the goats in a small area. They can clear out the vegetation and you can move it to another area on the property to clear out that area. Conservation areas use them all the time to remover invasive species.
Good thinking and premiere one electric fence is not too expensive.
I had a friend that cleared 10 acres moving the fenced in area.the goats just eat about everything they can reach.wall looks great ! do you miss sailing?I see a dinghy!!
Good idea for sure. electric fence

just a little to help with the kittens. Bless you guys,
Thank you Eric!
You two have huge heart's. Much love to the two of you. Happy new years.
They do ❤ they are an amazing couple.
You both really have good hearts, life throws these challenges at you & how you respond shows you’re true character.

2 suggestions Matt... start using torque head screws... and PRE DRILL your holes!!!!

Yumm! Goat cheese , goat ice cream, goat milk, goat fricassee, arroz con chivo. Possibilities are endless.
I visited a goat ranch in Wisconsin…
One thing people don't realize is goats love to hear their hoofs clack on rocks, wood. anything that creates noise.
Makes them happy and playful.

You could screw the section one for some permanence and do the door one as simply a pop on and pop off. As an alternate, if you can find some tube steel or channel iron that fits over a 2x4 that would work well and could be hinged to flip up and back for portability.
Man, I love you two....your of animals touches my heart
Love that you have such big hearts for animals. ♥️
The kitties are getting big ❤ and the goats are so precious ❤
God bless you both because you were such good people and I love the big hearts you have
I reinforce all of my corners with triangular 9o degree angle cut ten inch by ten inch minimum (more is better) 9mm or half inch thickness exterior plywood, glued with polyurethane glue and screwed in place using galvanised timber screws which also clamp the timber until the glue is set. Make sure that these screws are not too long and do not go all through the timber. MORE KITTIES !!! Cats will take over the earth & all will be purrrfect !!! Happy New Year Matt & Kristen and all of your followers 🎉
Please make just a small vid of your holiday. Miss the boat stuff but like a million others we spend holidays staring at the walls. We live vicariously though you
I know you keep Bear inside but you need to make sure she gets daily exercise walking to make her digestive tract function properly and maintain her overall health. 👍🙏🏼😎✌️
Matt the way she stares at you while you're talking says it all. Make sure you reciprocate
Back in the 80s, when I bought my first house, the first major tool I bought was a chop (miter) saw. The time you save making multiple cuts is well worth it. I really enjoy you video. Have a very happy New Year!
Ye we gotta get one, tools are outrageously expensive now though
The view behind Matt is so beautiful!
The goat house looks awesome, great job.👍
Nice to see Matt's spirit grow & flourish exponentially since the boat life change up! He is a man of many talents & skills.
American Farm Works has a great solar powered electric fence system. It is all the goats need.
HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS! Thank you for the 52 videos of extraordinary entertainment you provided me all this past year, 2023. Keep up the excellent work. Se you in 2024!
Good day. Enjoy your vacations. Thank you.

"We're gonna need a bigger farm", Matt said as he gazed upon the herd he had created.
Matt,
Instead of drawing a line with your speed square and then cutting with your circular saw...use your speed square as a guide and slide your circular saw along the edge of the speed square to make your cut...it's more accurate and faster...
Happy New Year
Thanks!
Hopefully Bear is doing better, she is such a beautiful cat. I think she has the most amazing eyes I've seen in a cat, stunning. You guys are so amazing with the animals, I hope you have a wonderful time away.❤👍
You guys are funny. As a child, one summer we had five goats. It was a great summer with a lot of fabulous memories.
Thank you for the continuing videos. Thank you Matt. You are the Captain.
Yes, I believe that as well. Get your animals fixed. We have two beautiful cats there up there an age we had them fix when they were just babies. I am so happy that you guys are putting your all into all of these for babies. It’s stressful but I think it’s wonderful.

Inspirational. The honest content.
Cut the metal roofing with more overhang on all sides but the top. Keep the wood more dry when wind is blowing the drips
Nice goat house. Use T-posts to secure/bace by the gate. they would be easy to dive and secure. My wife's idea on the t-post, they may work well.
Nice build for your goats. Also, your music is VERY GOOD!👍
Chicken and goat feces make great fertilizer. If you let it dry, you can use on your plants, you'll have the best garden
Oh boy, Matt! For the goats a green or orange net, few sticks and done!
Long live the cat! 😺
Yes, workbench definitely, maybe workshop ?
The Double-D ranch is growing with each episode. Great to see the love for the animals. Might want to carve out the space for the pasture now as you are heading in that direction at a quick pace.
Uncle Matty and his kids! 😂 Goat daddy got mad skillz 😂😂😂

Happy New Year's 👏🏽👏🏽💪🏾💪🏾👍👍🏠🏡⛵️⛵️⛵️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🥃🍷🥃🍷
After a while they’ll be able to climb any fence unless you cap it off. Doesn’t matter if they’re mini. And they need to climb. They just have to so build climbing things in their pens. We have 7 and multiple births.the goats will chew those wires.I don’t think you’re supposed to go. Just make a hang over above your entrance. Two triangular pieces
We're gonna build a goat mountain
The first goat shack you make for your enemy's the second for your friend the third for your self yep the tin on the goat shack could have had more over hang to keep rain off and out of the structure good job ❤😊 Happy New Year guy's
Mattey-Boy needs a miter saw AND an impact driver.
Get a Dewalt impact driver. You can so easily place screws at the perfect depth.
This video shows you what its all about. Great job
My friend has a goat pen on his yard that as no bottom but is on wheels and small. The goats push against it and steer it around the yard hence feeding and mowing at the same time.
You can train those goats to follow you around just like a dog they are really smart. Those critters will keep your land nice and clean and trim.
Matt. Use the clutch on that drill….it will make drilling screws much faster 😊😊😊
Lay a board horizontal across top on the corners for bracing, between that will stiffen it like blue chews
Great video.
you are becoming HERDERS.
Have a Happy New Year celebration where ever you are at. Looking forward to next video
Howdy from the Texas Hill Country. We love all of your videos. Love your lap goats. They're so stinking cute. Bless you for rescuing all the kittens. Happy New Year! Can't wait to see what you have up coming in the new year.
