You have 4 midfielders so if u just patient enough you will see that u always have a free player in the midfield so you will have high possession of the ball, then the opponent will try to press your free man with a player from his defense like dragging a fullback or CB
If is it CB then your CF will be free
If is it Fullback your fullback will be free
Lastly learn to press high to reduce counter attacks

I use this formation with a little bit improvisation. I don't use double AMF, I use LMF and RMF instead. Because my tactic is Long Ball. 1 DMF, ANCHORMAN, with Deep Line as individual instruction. 1 CMF, B2B or Hole Player depends on my opponent. One of my full back must be a defensive full back so my defense won't be easily exposed.

I would suggest for 4-2-2 with a modification: 2 DMs and 2 CMs and 2 CFs. I use outwide teamplay style with 2 CMs operating like a RMF and LMF. So, it works well.
