I shall have to give this a go on my next tablet-woven belt!

At about 0:38, what’s the other kind of braid used for trim? A six strand braid or a finger loop braid?

The second type of braid on that green dress is a 4 strand varient of the 6 strand finger braid. :)

Very nice! I look forward to trying this. Can I check how you attach the wrapping threads at the start? Is it a single long piece looped through itself and then folded to make two strands?

Yes I usually start by making a long loop and then threading it through itself, on belts I tend to knot the main belt threads at the end of the run, and use that knot to stop my wrapping threads slipping down. If im making a wrapped cord on its own, I tend to knot the core threads once to give me something to anchor to, sometimes I thread the wrapping threads onto a needle and pass that through the middle of the knot and tye it again afterwards. Your threads can never be too secure imo!

Not much of a stretch to turn this from cord wrapping to dressing up clothes or textiles with piping work by adding a needle and following what amounts to the same process while stitching through a piece to anchor the edging or embellishment. And finishing that so it would dress off nicely would likely be some variant of the barrel stitch.
