Most NBA teams report losses too as do companies like Amazon, Netflix, Ford, and Warner Bros Discovery to name a few. As an accountant I can assure you reporting losses and losing money are not the same thing.
Do you understand anything you just reported? The league doesn't make any profit and loses money every year. So to share revenue will mean the players would have to pay the team. Maybe do some actual research
But the nba for many years was not profitable the nba can actually make the wnba profitable it just doesn’t help them in any way . Look it up before Larry bird one of the 1st icons of the nba people didn’t really care about it
@@Michael-zr4kg okay they were not also making a good revenue what’s your point ? Revenue is the money a business earns by selling a product or service, and profit is the money your business keeps after accounting for all the expenses involved in generating that revenue. They were not making EITHER FOR YEARS just stop being sexist
@@sofiesoup they do generate revenue. Part of the expenses teams have to pay is player salaries. NBA players get paid a larger proportion of league revenue than WNBA players do, and they always have, even when the NBA was losing money every year in the 70s. It’s an investment in the future - spend money to make money. That’s why the NBA is the majority owner - execs believe the WNBA will be profitable in the future, so they’re putting money into it now. The issue is that not enough of that money is going to the players. Did you even watch the video?
@@sofiesoup if the league had not been profitable it would have folded years ago. owners dont run business for charity so there must be a fine print somewhere WNBA is being subsidised by the NBA
I had to rewind a few times instead I missed sth when you said most of the revenue is funneled back to the NBA Care to elaborate a bit? thats a huge assertion as WNBA team are separate franchise with their own sets of accounts. the problem with the WNBA is they try to run it like the NBA given that WNBA players make money playing overseas and get paid more, there is objectively a way to be profitable without flogging a dead horse and try to be like the NBA if enough of the WNBA most high profile leave overseas the league will take note. its a globalised sport
The NBA is the majority owner of the WNBA owning about 50% of the league with the 12 franchises owning the other 50%. All revenue the NBA makes from the WNBA is subject to be split between NBA players and NBA owners per the NBA's collective bargaining agreement. WNBA players don't have a similar revenue sharing model thus revenues from things like WNBA jersey sales for example go towards NBA salaries but not towards WNBA salaries. The reason women's basketball players are more fairly compensated in Europe for example is because under the club systems they exist in women's teams are actually taken seriously and invested in properly. Also telling American athletes that if they want to be compensated properly they need to move to Russia or China seems pretty un-American if you ask me.

11:10 They would have to increase by 148%, not 248%. It's the increase we're talking about (148M), relative to the initial amount of 100M.
You left out the part that wnba owners lose money.
