    This is me in this video. Tbh, I don’t really identify with a lot of the passport bro movement and I kind of cringe that I’m seen as a passport bro but if a man moves abroad and finds a loving caring relationship, then that’s a very positive thing.
    The dating culture is very different in the west and Asia because of the way people are raised and their values. For example USA highly values freedom and individualism while Asia values harmony and collectivism. This isn’t to say one is better than the other. It’s just a preference! Go where you’re treated best.

      Hey Paul,my late husband have the same perspectives just like you.We met in Hong Kong and get married in Indonesia.We moved to Sweden and he passed away in 2020.I could say that I have better life here but I missed the atmosphere in Indonesia,caring neighbours and family. Here peoples are so individual and most of local Swedish are not so friendly.

      True it’s more of a preference. There is so much stigma from the US because it shows that they are not preferred.

      Hey Paul, there was a lot of mean comments in the original video because many struggle with dating in the west. So naturally many women are in the comment section who maybe didnt have so much luck in dating. As someone who found a more feminine woman from the philippines, with a family oriented valueset, while she was working here in Denmark, I completely understand you. I guess i am a passport bro as well, even though i only left the country to visit her parents.
      There is a push to try and demonize men who look for a more family oriented life, or god forbid, a christian life which led me and her together. But I wish you all the best

    I'm a 28 year old American white guy living in SE Asia. This guy and most western guys when they move to Asia are completely clueless about the cultural reality. Asian culture is much more materialistic and money obsessed than American culture. Most American girls I've dated are totally fine with splitting the bill for example, try doing that in Asia lol. I guarantee this guy is paying for everything for his Thai girlfriend. She is eating food 3x more expensive, living in his apartment that is 3x bigger and using transportation 3x nicer than all her girlfriends because she's dating an American and they are dating Thai guys. He has the cultural depth of a squirrel to think that she isn't in it for his money because she's just happy to be living an American lifestyle in Thailand when all her friends are still living a Thai lifestyle.

    As a Thai I see nothing but a happy man with a happy partner. But for the westerners, this man could be seen as misogynistic, sexist and so on. Your view on this story depends on "your background", if you are from the society that full of gender conflicts what you can think of are just all the words from the gender-conflict vocabulary. But in Thailand, people don't get obsessed with all these stuff, men and women get along well, and there is relatively no gender conflict comparing to the western society. Some men could be more compatible with softer women, but also some women could get along well with more softer men, and some prefer equal relationship, all these don't matter as long as they are happy as a couple. So, who are you to judge them?
    Don't bring the western's point of view about genders into the Thai society, in Thailand we don't do "men vs women", or "LGBT should not exist" things.

    This guy's perspective on Thailand is entirely incorrect. Thailand is very superficial.. status and money are arguably much more important than in the west. Even the methods of saying hello are tied to status. He just seems clueless about the actual topic.
    The irony is that his preference for dating is actually entirely linked to having more money and status than most of the actual Thai people... this is why he prefers it.
    He is living in a very status oriented country where his particular status is higher, and he's turned being able to find a girlfriend into his entire personality. This says a lot more about him than anything else.

      It's the same in most asian countries. Asian women aren't more feminine. women in general act more feminine when in front of a man they're attracted to. As an asian, things from europe like bags, cars, race, education and accent are seen as of a higher social status. If u come to asia with a western accent, women will find u attractive.

      I was going to say the same thing. He is totally tone-deaf to the reality of what really happens in Thailand. A lot of Thai people only date foreigners for the sole purpose of having a better life, to obtain wealth, or to improve their social status. They're not doing it for the reason he mentions in the video. A lot of westerns from the US, and other countries will only show 1 side of Thailand but won't highlight the challenges. CNA Insider usually has great videos where they highlight the struggles of Thailand and get Thai people to do a day and life.

The middle class girls are the majority here, and yet many faraang seemed to only get the attention of the women from the marginalized population like them bar girls. Those bar girl are really, really desperate - Ofc they’re willing to be with a faraang double their age. Whilst most educated Thai women wouldn’t even acknowledged his existence, ‘cause the Thai middle-upper class men/woman in their working age would’ve care more about look, height, age, charisma and body type of their partner than stability in life. Besides, nobody wants an old/fat/ugly bf/gf that can’t even understand what your father was saying unless you really have to. - Their friends will tease, and their family wouldn’t approve of you; if they gotta choose between family or a walking wallet, ofc they’d dump you, or else, they’d have to hide their relationship. Here is my take on Thailand as someone who has been here for two years. As for love, it does exist, but it does come with a price. Women in Thailand are looking for a guy who can take care of them financially, combined with them taking care of their family.
    Unless you're willing to dish out your hard-earned money and resources for these women, then that is the reality of Thai women. The country lacks any social welfare system, the wages are super low, and Thai people can't really express their opinions on the country, as laws are there to punish them for speaking up. So you'll see nothing but positive things in Thailand as compared to the U.S., where they have First Amendment laws for its citizens.
    I've seen Paul's previous video, and the guy claims he makes $150,000 USD per year, which is like making $1,000,000 USD in Thailand, so he can pick and choose the type of partner he would like to get into a relationship with. He will have an amazing life living in Thailand with that type of salary. Thailand only wants folks with money entering their country.
    The fact that they had to use Passport Bro to generate clicks tells me he doesn't respect or appreciate the movement, as it was more intended for black men to seek love overseas. He's just using this interview & name (passport bro) to boost his public image.

      $150k USD in high COL areas like where Paul is living in Thonglor is comparable to more like $450k USD in a high COL US city like LA. Its very easy to blow through crazy amounts of money in Bangkok, as it is in LA. The hiso in Bangkok can throw around 100k baht on trinkets. The prices in high end restaurants, shopping, hotels, clubs, bars etc relative to the mid range establishments reflect this. The high end places have prices to match high COL areas in the US, dollar for dollar. You can easily drop $600 on dinner in Bangkok.

    Western women often come across as hostile to me even. And they still want men to be the breadwinner, while wanting to earn the same, those two things realistically do not match so well. So average women look at average men who earn the same as below them or not good enough. This is what is going on, I live in europe and I notice how many good, kind men are not in a relationship. It leads me to believe the current setup doesnt work. Divorce rate is also high, I think 41% last data i saw. Some women will say men dont do enough around the house but the newest data says otherwise. If men and women are smart here they save up to have kids, if it becomes too much stress, so they can both take more time off. But women here are constantly told they should get out to work directly after having kids almost, in this competition with men that society/media pushes them to

  • @edwinlee2280
    @edwinlee2280 4 วันที่ผ่านมา +32

    I agree with this video, though I think describing western women as more "masculine" requires further elaboration. Western women are very independent and earn a lot, often more than men (which is great) but because women naturally desire a man who can protect them (known as hypergamous - which isn't unreasonable), there are less and less men that can match what they want. As a result, there's a lot of single men and single women. I've been dating in Australia for the last decade and a half and I can see it's becoming ever more difficult for the average man... with many men becoming resentful (and probably women as well). Overall, I am in a very good position to raise a family etc. I can support my partner, raise a family, I am healthy, own a house, car, very fit, have bought fitted suits so my fashion is good etc. I've tried numerous dating courses, talked to a lot of women, but in the end, nothing has happened.
    Honestly, I'd love to find a partner here (logistically it's easier, lower risk and would be better for my career/finances)... but I am at the age where I've tried and tried and found nothing substantial, so I can't wait too much longer because I want a family myself. I really am just exhausted and tired of dating in the western world. I've had many girls ghost me, over look me, be indecisive, cause a lot of dramatic etc. and I am just so tired 😭.
    I get more attention abroad so realistically speaking, that seems to be my only option now (as much as I would prefer otherwise).

    • @Swiplys

      If you don't view hypergamy and a hyper-sexualised society that western societies perpetuate as a problem, then yes you have a problem. Such things would not be tolerated or acceptable in Asian societies and carry severe punishments for breaking of traditional norms. Sure feminist culture wars do get imported to Asian countries too but governments are proactive to clamp down against things that challenge traditional gender roles and the nuclear family.
      Men in western countries have to push back and assert more traditional values or there is little hope for the average western male. And we sure as hell don't want or won't tolerate a western man or woman trying to import western values into our countries.

    • @ronnie5329

      This is the reason most date abroad, its too difficult for the avg man and avg woman to find each other in the west. And the truth is a lof of western women arent just looking for someone on their level, they still want men to have a higher social status than them, which is rather traditional. I dont think this will change soon so I support avg men going abroad to date. Go where you are wanted. Dont let hit pieces scare you

    • @dotarian6754
      @dotarian6754 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Women generally always want to date up (i.e. A man of higher status either financial or socially) and when the bar of men and women's social and economic status becomes more and more equal, the pool of men for women to select from becomes less and less. This is particularly why women say there arent many suitable men to date, alot of men are just invisible to women as men who don't meet their standards aren't even considered.

If you don't have the strong confidence to set boundaries to certain things that affect your ideal lifestyle based on where you live, those old issues will still follow you. In Asian culture men still prefer women to be obedient, in Western culture women speak up when they see issues Men get scared and say they are too strong. I don't think it's gender, religion, or culture. It's choosing to be "Authentic" and appreciate your partner loves you enough to share their opinion. What you see is what you get! My wife and I watched Chinese couples in the UK and Asia and as an outsider it looked like a financial transaction, they didn't talk or cuddle or show any signs of being married aside from general respect for one another but this is likely because we don't understand relationship dynamics of Chinese people. But it has to be said, brilliant work ethic and the men do everything to support their families

    • @kiwifruitkl
      @kiwifruitkl 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@larkop6504 The Chinese do have a strong work ethic, and this fact is also why the Taiwanese workers (who are ethnically Chinese) and American workers of TSMC based in the USA are having trouble getting along. The American workers value their own work-life balance and having the time to spend with family, but from the Chinese work culture standpoint, this just means laziness. The Taiwanese workers are more willing to put their heart, soul and mind into their own work, and they and their own families support the work that they do. I'd say it's a different kind of work-life balance--one that takes work as the priority and that adjusts the life around work. It acknowledges that the work brings money/food on the table, and the children just have to accept that. American children, I think, tend to be more individualistic, and their parents tend to be more individualistic as well. For Americans, a work-life balance would mean keeping everything completely separate and unaccommodating and making sure that life gets priority. I also think this is stemmed from the analytic thinking preference in the West where something will be thought out individually, without consideration of context. In the East, people prefer more holistic thinking. There is actually a TH-camr--maybe two--who talks about Western vs Eastern UX design, and how the design itself is geared towards western populations or eastern populations; however, I don't think it's just cultural but also linguistic. I think the grammar forces people to think in a certain way. In English and other European languages, the most specific thing like the day comes first, then the month and then the year. In East Asian languages, the most general thing comes first (year), then the month and finally the day. I think if the grammar goes from specific to general, then people tend to think about the detail first, then the context. But if the grammar goes from general to specific, then people will think about the context, then the detail.
      The men do everything to support their families--true. But women do the same. Urban Chinese women usually work like their husbands. Rural Chinese women may actually become housewives. But if the family needs money, then the women will work too. Maybe find work to do in the city or take the agricultural products and sell them in the city. They usually don't idle around. Because both men and women usually work, it is the grandparents who usually take care of their own grandchildren. Being the housewife is actually very risky business. If the husband can't work anymore, and the wife doesn't have any recent work experience that would be relevant to the workplace, then the family essentially has no income. So, if possible, the housewife needs to be on the look-out for moneymaking opportunities from home.

    Glad that you're happy Paul. Yes it does feel like there are too many contradictions when trying to date back home. People expect "traditional" partners but they themselves adhere to "modern" tendencies. But have you considered that this goes both ways, not just on women? Many many guys these days want to have casual sex with a lot of girls and prefer situationships to actual commitment. With women becoming more aware of their autonomy allowed by our laws (though that is decreasing, see Roe v Wade), social media creators pushing relationship ragebait for views, and too many echo-chambers abound, nobody wants to be played. Guess what happens? Men and women start to play each other and feed into the narrative that "modern/western men/women are trash".
    Asian women are not as different as you want to imagine, regardless of how Hollywood or porn like to spin the narrative of a submissive and sensual being. More often than not in Asian countries (China, Korea, Japan, Vietnam, and likely Thailand), the wife becomes the boss of the house and not in a good way, because that's how they grew up in their household. So much for submitting to the man.
    I don't know you and what you do in your relationship dynamic, but I'm fairly certain that you being a digital nomad from the US (aka having more money than the average local man) played a big part in the amount of willing women who initially matched with you on dating apps, and what your current gf will put up with. If she's submitting to you often as opposed to if she were with another Thai man, probably it's because of your passport and money.
    In any case you're 2.5 years strong with Ton-nao, so I wish you the best!

    Paul Lee’s story highlights a fascinating trend among young men seeking traditional relationships abroad. He praises Asian women for being more feminine, family-oriented, and respectful, contrasting this with the perception of many Western women, who he feels can be overly independent or critical, sometimes labeled as 'Karens' in pop culture. While critics argue this trend exploits economic and social imbalances, it’s also clear that Asian women are making their own choices and seem to embody qualities these men value deeply. Does this say more about cultural differences or shifting relationship priorities in the West?

      @@Swiplys: “Waste your life, learn to speak a foreign language
      By Anthony Browne (Monday, 23rd December 2002)
      We all know le problème: we are a nation of monoglots, linguistically challenged and so culturally inferior and economically constrained. Only one in four of us can claim to speak in foreign tongues, whereas our chic European chums babble away in a veritable Babel. European governments have lobbied, and the British Government has responded: from 2010 every primary school shall teach foreign. It’s a further good intention paving the road to ruin of our education system. We should shrug off our linguistic hang-ups, and instead of reinforcing language teaching, abolish it tout de suite.
      Ordering everyone to learn another language is as pointless as ordering everyone to dig holes and fill them up. The reward for our ancestors persuading the rest of the world to speak English is that there is no need for us to learn what the rest of the world speaks.
      All the time we spend learning another language, we should spend instead learning something useful - like economics, business studies, politics, law or computer science. If everyone in the country were forced to study economics as remorselessly as they are forced to learn French, then Britain would be in a far better state (true reform of the NHS would have happened decades ago).
      Learning another language may make you feel clever, but it is no longer necessary for speaking with the foreigners you’re most likely to want to speak to: the educated and those working in tourism. Ever regretted you didn’t spend years learning German because of problems communicating with German labourers? I thought not.
      I spent three hours a week for six years learning French, but it has proved a total waste of time. I have only needed it on a handful of occasions, and even then it was tourist French learnable in a couple of weeks. I have family friends in France, and have had many enjoyable conversations with our Gallic neighbours, but always in English. I have extended family in Norway and Denmark, but hardly speak either language because I never get the chance: all my Scandinavian relatives speak perfect English.
      In contrast to all our continental cousins, Britain is part of the Anglosphere, by far the most powerful linguistic bloc in the world: the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand - as well as countries such as South Africa and India where English is the language of business and politics. Three of the G7 countries are anglophone.
      Even outside the Anglosphere you can thrive with impunity as an English monoglot: you can work with no problems in the European Commission, the European Central Bank and countless multinational companies around the world. There is no obvious alternative language - French is only useful in a couple of developed countries and North Africa, and Spanish helps you on holiday in Cuba.
      Don’t get me wrong: I understand the smug satisfaction of mastering another tongue, but it is damaging to force it on the entire population. European children spend 15 per cent of their time learning foreign languages by the age of ten - imagine the advantages we would have if our kids did something more interesting in that time than learning how to ask for un café.
      The Government is swimming against the tide of history: as more people learn English, the more pointless it is for Britons to learn another language. There are fewer and fewer people in the world worth speaking to who don’t speak English. Already the number of people studying languages at A level in Britain is plummeting.
      The Government’s recent announcement that it is no longer compulsory to learn a foreign language up to GCSE is a welcome dose of reality. But it should go the whole hog, and stop forcing everyone to learn useless knowledge that they will never need, and hardly ever use.”
