Mad Dog is awesome I'm going to be very critical of the first play through of that one as I have lots of love for it, I'm a big fan of all the FMV games
Unfortunately if you take away the FMV Games and CD Sound you have a very lackluster system with not much to offer even though Apprentice does look good.
Made me laugh when you said “well it can’t get any worse” it’s the CDi - it sure can. Well at least you can test games out and sell the terrible ones on via your store. Thanks for sharing bru!
I will say that I still want “Tropic Thunder” with Hulk Hogan! I watched those Phil Hartman late night Cdi infomercials when I was a kid at 4am lol. I wanted this console so badly when I was 13 lol.
I’ve heard of the Hulk Hogan interactive games on the CDi I will track them down if I can and will definitely feature them in a future video, the verdict is still out on whether this system is worth collecting for hahaha but 1 good gme out of 3 so far ain’t too bad lol Thanks for watching and commenting 🧟♂️

Btw what killed you the first time in Apprentice was the water dripping from the ceiling. I had to go back a few times before I figured it out. Spiky posts that look like a torture device? Harmless. Dripping water? Deadly. Aside from that, looks like a pretty nice little platformer.
Ahhh dripping water hahahaha Yeah I also wondered about those spikes as in most platformers they hurt you but in this game it’s water rather than death traps hahahaha
Hi Scott mate! I've never used a Philips CDi before and after watching this, I doubt I ever will 😂 I was never a fan of the early FMV based machines of the early 90's. They sounded great and had fantastic intros etc. but the game play always seemed gash! Thanks for the share though, because It saves me spending some bunce on a Philips CDi 😂

I have an uncle who had a CD-I. I had played a few times on that system. It felt like an underpowered 16-bit system that just had games with CD audio music. A Mega Drive or a SNES were much better systems to own for gaming. Yet Philips wasn't advertising the CD-I as games console. It was advertising it as an interactive multimedia device that could also play movies and educational content.
Yeah totally agree that Philips pushed this as a multi media system rather than a games console I need to pick up a few of the movies too se what kind of quality they are Let’s hope also along this journey we discover more games like the apprentice hahahah
@@SEGAZombie The movies were using the MPEG-1 codec. They were a generation behind DVD. Compared to the VHS, they were slightly better. Compared to the Laser Disc, I can’t comment on video quality but the video CD had the perk of been a smaller disc. Generally though, video quality for the masses came to be much later with the arrival of the DVD.
@@SEGAZombie You know what? The Sega Saturn had an internal bay where you could slot in a hardware module that would help it play video. That module was offering the MPEG-1 capabilities. The same video CD movies that could be played on the CD-1, could also play on the Sega Saturn with that module.

I think the hardest part about playing a game, or a system from the CDi's "heyday" is the wider context of the gaming world at the time. That being said, this mess of a system and series of games came into a world that was playing games like Streets of Rage 2, Sonic 2, Zelda LTTP, Mario Kart & Wolfenstein 3D. In that context the CDi is just rubbish and would require someone to compromise in so many areas to be anything other than disappointing. It has a nostalgia and kitsch factor, but otherwise i'll always remember standing in a store when I was 7 or 8, which had a SNES and a CDi set up side by side and thinking, I don't care that it comes on CD's (which my mum said like "ooooo the games come on CD's!!") because the games looked rubbish and the controller didn't work properly. Little 7 or 8 year old me was right and I'm not going to argue with him - he knows that I blamed the cat for breaking loads of Christmas tree decorations one year.
Yeah I totally agree the Philips CDi was a multi media entertainment system and when the market for that shrunk Philips tried to push the system as a games console What’s interesting too is the fact that I’m certain some of these developers for the CDi had never played video games before 🤣 Surly whoever coded pinball had never played pinball before 🤣 Let’s hope along this journey more games turn up like the apprentice and less like pinball 🤞 Thanks for watching and the comment 🧟♂️
Oh I love devils crush on Pc engine I’ve been playing dragons fury on the MegaDrive and recently got into Demons Tilt on the Nintendo switch I’m really loving these pinball RPG style games
I always fancied getting a cdi as its a console that escaped me as a kid. I remember seeing the advert years ago with a golf game and a tennis game that looked awesome at the time. That pinball looked awful with basic tables but apprentice game looked great nice sharing dude 😊👍
Yeah the golf and tennis games were always being demoed in the shops bitd and graphics for the time were pretty awesome but it fails miserably on gameplay Pinball was dreadful lol The apprentice though has gone some way in giving me hope that their are some worthy games to play on the CDi 🤞

The apprentice is a lot of fun and thank god at least 1 of the 3 games was decent I agree so many better pinball games on the 8bit micros I’ve played better lcd pinball games than that dire mess hahahaha
you can have the most powerful machine at the time but if you don't have the games developers behind you it can end like this,shame really could have been so much better
Apprentice is a game that a lot of CDi fans seem to mention when it comes to the system..... definitely has a Amiga feel to it. Same can't be said for Alien Gate & that Pinball game 😆
I couldn't watch past the pinball game. I was a kid when this abomination came out and saw it hyped in stores. I wanted to buy it for the Zelda games, but I hated that it was way too expensive and used a TV Remote for it's controller.

I can't see paying $400 for this system in the 1990s, just to play inferior Pinball games and the like. I mean compare this pinball game to old NES classics like Pinbot and Rollerball.
And this is why it failed, in fairness to Philips the CDi was a multi media system but when they realised the market was small and shrinking due to the fact people were getting higher powered pc in their homes that had all these multi media software and better Philips tried hard to change direction and push the CDi as more of a console
Never owned or played on a Phillips CDI, always thought it was an interesting system. Love those game cases, cool Oooh mate that pinball game is utterly dreadful 🤮💩 Didn't reckon much to the shooter either to be honest. The apprentice looks loads better, definitely worth a play 👍. Look forward to seeing more from the console.

There are some games that are fun, but it isn't great for games. It wasn't really marketed as a console anyway. I have the same controller and I absolutely hate it. Games I like for it are: Lingo, Tetris, Kingdom Shadoan, Strip Poker Live, The Apprentice, Mutant Rampage, Axis & Allies.
Yeah it was more a multi media system for sure but it’s definitely an interesting system especially when it tried to push being a console I actually really enjoyed the Apprentice and it’s a game I will deffo invest some time into. The apprentice is extremely playable and has nice graphics and fluid controls I recommend that game I have a stack off games here that I will pick 3 each video so hopefully along this journey we can discover more games like the apprentice and let’s just hope that they all ain’t like pinball 🤣
