    Thanks for that tour! No others I watched showed as much of the storage areas as you did, great job!

    Nice Catalina! It's got a layout that makes it seem bigger than a 25 footer. Great galley and main cabin. Thanks for sharing!

      Actually, the early C-25's had 3 different interior configurations. The most common was the traditional style(parallel setees with a fold down table). Then there is the dinette booth on the port side which was around until it was fazed out in the later years. The 3rd type is an L-shaped dinette on the port side, a cross between the traditional and the booth type. But this 3rd type was only available for the first few years. The galley was the same in all. Regardless of which layout, the C-25 does offer a lot more interior room than most boats of similar size.

    Thanks for that... Took me back to when I was a kid. My father purchased a "Boomaroo 25" (Catalina rebadged) in 1983. Great to see one again...

    I've seen many boat tours, of boats about this size. I think it's well organized, much the same as I would do. In comparison, I just watched a video of a boat about this size. It was from a man and his wife, and it was so disorganized, I could hardly believe it. They would have things like loafs a bread, in a small compartment, with DVDs, and tools. Then other types of can goods, and food, dispersed in various other small compartments, throughout the boat. I didn't write a comment, since I don't think they would have listened or read it.

    Interesting that you have both batteries on the port side. My '78 C-25 (swing keel) has a single battery on the starboard side, and the manual says to add a second one on the port side to help keep the boat balanced. Your problem with the water under the setees could very well be coming in from leakage around the windows( which LP mentioned), which is a common problem with the older Catalinas. Catalina Direct sells a complete kit to re-seal all the ports. My boat has been on the trailer since I bought it as it needed a complete overhaul which I'm not done with, and I'm also giving it extensive electrical and navigation, as well as plumbing upgrades by the time I'm done. I would love to swap ideas and insights with you, as well as share knowledge of some of the common problems and fixes for these great boats.

      You are definitely right about the leaky windows. Unfirtunately, I had to sell her a few years ago. Always down to talk about boats.

      @@bigbeartr57 I pulled all the windows out of mine, and am still working on repairing the damage around the openings in the deck. It's so bad that I have to invent new methods of dealing with it. Also having fun cleaning off 43 years of salt oxidation from the port glass and aluminum frames. One thing about having to strip the boat down for repairs, it makes it easier to do upgrades and mods. Sorry you had to sell your boat. I just hope I can get my finished before I'm too old to sail it.

    I think your Windows and deck fittings are leaking. The water is brown, meaning it went through the inner plywood beforecoming inside. Just a guess

    Nice little boat. I have an inboard engine on my Watkins 25 and you need to be a contortionist to get at some of the bits and pieces. Wish I had got a boat with an outboard which i could take to someone every year to have serviced.

    • @thomasconnell6919

      Some of the later C-25's had an inboard diesel, but it was nearly inaccessible as well.

    I have found the water collection in the hold is a normal part of life on board a Cat 25...I just mop it up. or throw a towel to wipe it up.. then wring our the towel overboard... hang it and let it dry out side../ Spiders seem a problem also.. measures to control their hatch out of the hold are periodic... the seem to arrive air borne and get caught on the mast. Spiders love life in a sail boat... they aren't that much of a problem. I thing the worst trouble is deicing in winter.. it is real danger...

      About how much would a head holding tank for a Catalina 25 cost ?

    • @thomasconnell6919
      @thomasconnell6919 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@guymorris1963 My 1978 C-25 came with a head plumbed direct to a through hull fitting, which is illegal to use in most places so I picked up a used tank(cleaned) from a sailboat wrecking yard for $40. New they can run $130-$160 or more, depending on size, shape, and who you buy it from. The tank isn't the only expense though. Sanitation hose, water intake hose, pump out hose, deck pump out fitting and through-hull fittings, as well as vented loops all have to be figured into the cost of a holding tank setup. I discovered the 3 types of specialized hoses are going to be the most expensive part of this upgrade for me. Also don't forget all connections have to be double clamped with stainless steel clamps.

    Hey how much does something like this go for in 2020?canadian

    • @bigbeartr57
      @bigbeartr57  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      With boats this age, you are paying for condition. One in good shape should run around $6K US, and should be pretty much the same in Canada. I had to sell this boat a couple ears ago, but I'd say she should be worth 2-3K in the condition you see in the video, but a motivated seller would probably let her go under 2. You can do your own math for exchange rates, but the value can vary so wildly it's not very useful information till you find the specific boat you want.

    • @thomasconnell6919
      @thomasconnell6919 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      As Jerrid said, it depends on condition and age. Current prices range from $1,000 to $8,000 USD for a C25. It all depends on how much work and time you are willing to put into it. I paid $1,000 for my 1978 boat and 1976 trailer 2 years ago, but have to strip both down to the bare nubbins and do a complete, and I mean COMPLETE overhaul on both before my hull ever hits the water. Had to shell out $250 for trailer tires just to get it home. Also had to buy an outboard separately. Generally, the newer the boat and less work it needs, the more it's going to cost.

    • @bigbeartr57

      Somewhere around 8000# or so. It was over my tongue weight and I probably wouldn't do it again, but I towed it from VA to TX without any issues.

      @bigbeartr57  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jonathans444 Its all about condition and there are about 1000 variables that can affect the value.. NADA value would be in the ballpark of $6000 plus what the motor is worth.
