    I'm so glad I came across your channel! I didn't know where to begin and your videos are very helpful. I have a several-year-old PBN canvas that I finally got out and I'm prepping...I just taped and gesso'd the canvas and I'm getting ready to paint! It's the first time since I was a kid that I've done this--very fun. I'm sorry for the passing of your son--what a great idea to have a canvas of him to paint! I hope it brings you all the good memories when you see it on the wall💖

      I am so thrilled that you found my channel! PBN projects and this channel have helped me survive the loss of my son, and that’s why I think it is so important for people to find something like this hobby to get them through whatever they may be dealing with in their own lives.
      I am so excited for you to get started, and if you need any more help, I have a ton of videos that are organized in my playlists by topic.
      In addition, my group on Facebook is a huge source of information and inspiration, and you can find the link for that if you go to my MelanieB.info, and click on the little Facebook icon or go to the “connect with me” tab and you can find a link there. I have the best, most helpful members of any group anywhere. I also try to stay very active personally in that group to offer advice as often as possible myself. I hope to see you there if you haven’t joined already!

I dearly love the idea and I thank you for this and and for all the information and teaching you have given all of us. I discovered PBN this morning and am binge watching your channel. I am soooo excited to get started.

    That is so beautiful; what a lovely tribute to your dear son. I am so sorry for your loss.
    Thank you so much for sharing this. I bought 3 paint by number kits; one at Michaels by Artist's Loft, and 2 from a store on Amazon. I was trying to tape one of the Amazon ones down but it wouldn't lay flat no matter what. So I tried the other and it wouldn't lay flat either. So I moved on to the Artist's Loft kit and it laid nice and flat and has a thicker canvas. I figured I'd have to throw the others away, but now I just need to buy thicker tape,.

    Melanie, thank you for this! ALL of your videos have been so amazing - I’m so glad I found you! None of the other PBN tutorials even come CLOSE to yours! With your help, I gave 3 completed PBN paintings to my family for Christmas! And, guuurl, I was so happy and proud of myself! My family also raised my Amazon wishlist and my PBN cup “flowethed over” with all the PBN Christmas presents, lol! I just mixed my first 2 colors to fix some semi-translucent green and yellow with the Arteza 60 color kit you recommended, and couldn’t be happier! And I’d never have thought that getting a roll of frog tape for Christmas would have made me so giddy! And while I can’t remember which video I commented on before (I’ve watched so many!) I want to thank you for your reply advising me to try foam board as a lightweight sketch board - you were 100% right!! Thank you for everything, Melanie!

    Hi All! I'm new to PBN and just found you Melanie and I'm so glad top be getting such useful information right away. May I ask .... why can't you iron out the crease? thanks.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can iron it, but I find that I struggle with getting the iron the right temp, it can leave wrinkles, some people say, “Use steam,” and others say, “Absolutely do NOT use steam!” {I personally would not use steam. Some PBN companies use an ink that doesn’t work well with straight liquids and/or has a plastic surface, so heated water does not play well with it.}
      It can just get tricky, so I personally try other means to remove the folds without resorting to the iron when I can…but that does not mean you cannot or shouldn’t use one!!

    I’m prepping your clear gesso formula with my not-so white marble dust. I have 3 canvases that I have not had placed on stretcher bars. I stapled my last PBN on a cardboard box (still trying to figure out what to do with the nasty palette I received). This is a another great and useful video!!!!

    OH HOW BEAUTIFUL!!! can we just use regular painting tape as it comes off so easily? I already have the blue painters tape.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The blue tape does not come off easily on this canvas. I used to use the blue tape, but I have one painting that it won’t remove from. The Frog Tape just peels off super easy.

    So, this may seem like a stupid question but I don’t have a sketch board like that. I was planning on using either a large piece of cardboard or a piece of foam board. It’s what I have around and within my budget for now. Is it ok to use those options to mount my painting and prep with gesso.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have 4 DIY mounting videos to show you other options. You can definitely use foam board!

    Did you get that one from Canvas by Numbers? That is where I got mine, was wondering what you thought of the quality. I got another one for Christmas , but it came folded. I was told to iron it first before I paint it.. how do you feel about that? I tried to do this method, but the folds were too deep, and I couldn't get them out. I just love that hanger idea.. I have one for my skirts, which I don't wear anymore.. Think I will repurpose it, lol. Thanks for another great informative video. God bless your generosity!

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you so much! 🥰 No, this is the painting from Aanabanana.com. I mentioned that in the beginning, and it’s in the description under the video if you need the promo code. I have an older custom from CBN that I haven’t completed. I forgot to show that one in my 2020 video 🤦🏻‍♀️. You can see the progress of this custom in that video though. Ironing is ok from the back on the fabric side, but I never have as much Iuck with it. Dry mounting is the only one that removes all wrinkles, but most of the Michael’s framers either don’t know how to do it, or they tell customers a canvas can’t be dry mounted 🙄. I have a video where I’m actually demonstrating dry mount with my canvas in the Michael’s framing department, so it can be done, and it isn’t permanent. But tape mounting like I did in this video should help.

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely!! I add clear gesso to EVERY canvas! It’s a much easier method to apply to canvases. th-cam.com/video/vjnuoLpgyYc/w-d-xo.html

  • @wenggets1

    Can you do this on a wooden wall or maybe at the back of a cabinet door? Will gravity have any effect on the stretching? And how long do you stretch it before the crease is gone?

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This technique should work on any surface, although I’ve only tried it on this particular one. Once I added the clear gesso, the crease was gone once it dried. If you aren’t going to gesso your canvas, I don’t see why you can’t tape mount the canvas face-down & lightly spritz the back with water, tape it down to a surface as I’ve demonstrated, and allow it to dry. It should have the same affect.

  • @julietannehill8622
    @julietannehill8622 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Love this! So I don’t have to tape it down to gesso? I can just gesso without taping? ☺️

    • @MelanieBsCreativeStudio
      @MelanieBsCreativeStudio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You can gesso without taping, but I do prefer it taped down if it needs to be stretched like this one did. If I didn’t have so many works-in-progress, I’d probably have every painting mounted in some way...tape-mount, dry mount, or clipped to my sketch board. Once you gesso, sometimes the canvas can curl up on the edges, and taping it down can prevent that. Since I prep several at a time, I can’t mount them all. It’s just a personal preference, for sure!

      That’s when the lamps come in handy. Also, the headlamp is good because you take off your glasses 🤓. It has different magnification lenses, but I’m like you, I can’t see far off at all. I am going to use this when I’m wearing my contacts and my close up vision is completely distorted. It probably won’t work for everyone.
