9:00 The part where he talks about having the spine tilted before your backswing is absolutely key if you want to develop any consistency. The more movement you have in the upper body during the swing motion the more inconsistent the spinner will be, imo. Changing the angle of your back moves where your shoulder is and the direction your arm will swing during your putt, both of which can pull your aim off course. My personal discovery has been to keep the movement in the hips and legs but keep the upper body quiet through the backswing so that you have a consistent shoulder angle and position. Bending your back in the backswing is only going to add uncertainty to your relative body position and can undo everything you are doing with your shoulder, arm, and wrist. Here's a little drill to check if you are bending your back. Line up like you are taking aim at the basket, except just point your putting arm straight out in front of you at the basket and maintain that angle with your arm. Then, while keeping your arm extended in front of you, mimic your putting backswing with the rest of your body. So putting stance then do your backswing with your body, except you keep your arm stiff in front of you, don't bring it back. If when you do the backswing with your body the angle of your arm tilts downwards to point at the ground, you are bending your back and changing the direction of your shoulder. You should be able to go all the way into your backswing with your arm still parallel to the ground and pointing at the basket
So I’ve been a push/spush putter since I started. I have slowly gotten better at this up to about 25 feet but I’ve always struggled from 25-40ft and anything being was luck untilI started a step putt that is much more of a spinny putt than I’ve ever had before. I was in a tournament this year and went 3/14 from that 25-40ft range and ended up 5 strokes from winning. I NEED to improve that part of my game. I decided that this off season I was switching to to a spin putt to give myself a better shot at making more of those longer ones. For some reason I am making many more (practice) of them but I am missing WAY more of the 15-20ft putts.. I really didn’t put any research into the grip or anything so I’m really glad you did this video. I will probably watch it a few times. Thank you so much Mr C…

So much great stuff here. I’ve been frustrated that my putting hasn’t improved much despite working on it quite a bit. I’m making most of the classic mistakes he mentioned. I was trying to supinate but struggled with getting the disc to flatten out and not getting enough power. I definitely felt the power in that figure 8 action he mentioned but could never find a balance between the increased power and the tendency to release too far right. I know exactly what he’s talking about with the 50% release point too. I’ve done it on accident and always thought it felt right, but struggled to replicate it. I think I’m doing ok with the grip and the stance though.
I learned how to spin because I was both super frustrated with my lack of putting distance and I wanted to putt like Eagle and Simon (not there yet!), and I'm glad to see that most of what Mike says in this I've sorted out in my own experimentation (aside from the nearly full-on power grip he mentions which I'm definitely going to go explore). I think the biggest thing that helped me was figuring out that the middle thru pinky fingers plus the thumb are **active participants** in generating spin. Like, you need to compress the flight plate between them and then push it around the center axis of the disc as you throw. This is where moving your fingers in and out (as Mike mentioned) controls power. The closer your fingers and thumb are to the edge of the disc, the more spin you can create in the throw, and vice versa. edit: There's a Calvin Heimburg video where he talks about how to practice this anywhere. Use just your wrist and fingers/thumb to toss the disc straight up towards the ceiling. No elbow or big arm movement allowed. Wrist and fingers only. You'll very quickly realize what helps and what doesn't. It's just practice from there.

Wow this was the most helpful video I’ve watched so far on your channel! I love your other content but this hit me at the right time focusing on some issues I was working on currently. I just took the pinky off the rim on my spush putt and it helped immensely. Then tried out the technique for spin putting (always wanted to be able to spin putt) It felt super natural when following the advice. Great work Robbie!

Spush is the way! Add or retract spin or push for the daily form. The problem is if you have a bad day you are stuck between 2 things that might multiply the problem xD
I have a GG putt. It works for me, however I have been trying to develop a spin for windy days. I have never been able to get it to work....UNTIL NOW!! Absolute biggest thing for me to get rid of the wobble was moving my thumb closer to the rim. Night and day difference. Really good video, so nice to hear some actual insights and whys/why not compared to "oh this what I do but putting is very individual blah blah"
I do a Calvin style push, but from a straddle if that makes sense. Stepping out has revealed the ceiling and footing I need a lot more in wooded courses.
How far can you push putt without jump putting? I learned a lot from your lessons on putting, going from inconsistent at even 15 feet to hitting 70-80 percent from 25 so really appreciate your videos. But once I get to 45 feet I struggle with the distance. How far can you comfortably reach the basket with a push putt and how do you achieve that distance?
My push putt is affective to about 60 feet. Anything over that I really have to “muscle“ the shot… Which is very detrimental. I have between 100 foot and 120 foot spin putt… With no jump. I show that on my Instagram channel. This is why I always, recommend being able to have a softer putt (push, spin… But both with fingers off the rim)… And then being able to switch to a baby throw, or aggressive spin putt as you move further away from the basket.

Without you featuring these tips, I'm not sure I would have gotten such a good understanding of my putting and the football analogy he used is immediately applicable to my putting practice. My goodness. I just sank 9/10 of all different discs from 6 meters! Mids and fairway drivers. Can't wait to actually use putters. Feels comfortable. Love the release 1/2 to 2/3 to the basket.
This is interesting cause I have spin putt for a good while with varying success until recently. As I have dialed in, I have realized these gotchas like my follow thru and my mistake pulling right. The starting annie of the disc is new though; my putting style is kind of a hybrid push spin putt. I traditionally spin from my chest at 20-25 in but at 30 I start pulling towards my belt more and I find adding a pause at the back really helps my consistency. It's a trick from ball golf for driving; you load, pause to let everything catch up and sync, then punch forward making sure the back of your hand punches towards the basket until it opens up. I know I hit my putt when I end up on my front foot, balanced, like I'm gonna shake the baskets hand.
I've noticed recently I do a weird thing where my body push putts but my wrist spin putts at anything 20ft and farther. I have to adjust for releasing too late but other than that it for some reason works
That is a great question… And my answer is “no“. Having both types of putts in the bag is a great benefit. There are definitely “silo managed techniques and factors“ for each putt… But it’s no different than having a backhand and forehand. Actually… I believe there are three types of putting styles… spin putt, push putt, and pendulum putt. We will be doing a deeper dive into all three types in the future. Hope this helps!
How cow! The advice about pronation & supination most have open up a world where I can put consistently. I'm still recovering from shoulder surgery, spin putting had hurt for the last few years. Now just after 20 putts each style I feel way more smooth.

try a forehand putt...yeah i know...no one putts forehand...just try...you can put so much more power behind it there is no jump needed...try it...honestly you just try and putt every different way cause like you said your lie around the basket dictates how you putt sometimes so why not have alot of various putting styles...you can't have enough weapons putting
