Single old lady here, with on kids, etc. to help out. You and I just took apart my dishwasher, cleaned it and put it back together. Not sure yet if I fixed the problem, but I did all I could without calling a repairman. My old lady hands are weak. The screw in the back of my/our dishwasher was different than the other screws in the basin of the machine, but a flat headed screw driver worked well enough. God bless you, son. Better than having you as my own as I don't have to feed you.
Mate thank you for your instructions you just saved my wife and I from buying a new dishwasher turns out a small piece of plastic had lodged itself in the rotor blade making a god awful cracking noise. Once I followed your instructions it’s humming away like a charm 🍺 cheers.
Thank you so much for your post. I followed every step, and cleaned some small soft stuff. I pulled the last housing straight up with a plier instead of screw driver. The big noise disappeared now. I really appreciated it
Thanks. I have the same exact issue with my Kenmore dishwasher from about 2008. I plan to open it up tomorrow. So, your video is very useful. Calling the service person would cost $100 just for visit/show up and diagnose and repair is extra.
Thanks Doug for those clear and helpful directions in clearing up the loud consistent noice coming from my older than 10 yr Kenmore dishwasher. Following exactly the same path which led to the grinder housing, we ( I say my wife and I, cuz she’s very helpful looking over my shoulder and offering help), discovered broken shards of glass, a small LEGO part, sliver of metal, and other debris. All this before removing the housing. The strainer in the housing was also severely clogged. We cleaned every up and reassembled the unit in relative ease. All in all you’ve saved us a lot of money. I’m sure other viewers feel the same way. Stay safe !
Excellent, sir, very helpful. The tool at the end is a (surgical) clamp. They come in numerous handle and jaw lengths, including curved jaws. I keep a satinski (vascular) clamp around to this day. Forceps have no locking feature.
Thank you for the clear instructions. I was ready to go dishwasher shopping, especially since the machine has been in use since 2010. I watched your video, took the machine apart and found a piece of plastic in the grinder area. I'm running a small load right now and the horrible noise is gone! Thanks again!
Hello Susan, We were in the same position you were. We followed this video and found 2 larger pieces of glass and about 10 Olive Pits. OMGosh. This video Saved us from having to buy a new dishwasher!!!
Fantastic tutorial! I think I can do this although the bending and twisting to get in there looks a bit challenging. Thank you so much for illustrating the Kenmore dishwasher buzz fix!
Nice video. Very thorough. Wasn’t sure about the chain link thing at the beginning... the actual content related to the the buzzing sound tied to the dish washer was perfect and helped me diagnose and treat my issue. One of the only videos that actually took the time to share the before sound which was crucial to the diagnosis.
Thank you so much! You saved us from having to buy a new dishwasher. That's exactly the help we needed. We feel pretty good about ourselves seeing as though we're a couple old Seniors. Keep up the good work helping others, especially during this Covid Pandemic. Your little tool is called Forceps, I use mine for sewing, turning a small tube inside out. You're the Best!
Thanks for the video on this. I had to clean out the grinder due to it being full of debris and this was perfect in showing how to get at that final piece.
My 2003 model starting buzzing today- tons of grudge build up brushed off/cleaned when parts removed- - maybe I can keep-er -going a little longer- Thanks for a great video!
Very good Doug. I have a newer model of Kenmore dishwasher but this video will certainly help me get to my grinder. My wife washes wine glasses in the dishwasher that are delicate and I'm sure I'll find a piece of glass. Thanks again!
Hi Doug, Thanks for the very helpful and clear instructions! And inspite of your head and arm getting in the way, I was able to disassemble and clean out the grinder pump in my Kenmore Elite ...which has been faithfully washing dishes since installation in 2005! It is an amazing appliance! As we speak, it is cleaning away nice and quietly like a good Kenmore should!! Thanks so very much, you saved me a lot of money, time and hassle!
Super helpful video. Mine came apart slightly different but your tips were great. Dishwasher is nice and quiet again. Side note, I couldn’t believe all the junk that was trapped in there
Mine didn't have any debris in the grinder area. It must be the main pump. Sounds like it is laboring. Oh well. It was bought at the end of Nov. 2007. I hate to replace the pump. Who knows how much life I should expect from this washer. Thanks anyway. Your video was still a big help.
we bought our house in 2017 and the dishwasher was already here, now fast forward to june 30 2023 loaded and started dishwasher and it starts making a buzzing sound as it starts up. wife looks at me, i look at her and hit cancel. try again nope. so start looking for repair videos. i found yours watched it and then at the end called my wife in to see if sound was the same, yep. i found two screws in there one in by the grinder and one on the bottom, plastic strip, and something else. i guess this is just a long way of saying THANK YOU, last time we had a service call for something it ran us $600. this just cost 26.00 for the shop vac wet filter. Thanks again.
Very helpful, thanks. Mine is a Whirlpool but exactly the same, probably over 8 years old. I cleaned a lot of junk out of there and t still makes noise but not as bad. Maybe I can get another year out of it.
Mine still makes the noise after replacing a failed chopper screen. We had a glass dish explode in the dish washer awhile back and I believe some small glass chunks are further inside the system, possibly the pump. I will attempt to disassemble the pump and clean it out. Otherwise I'll have to order a new pump assembly which is around 150 dollars if I recall.
Great video! I am sure this will solve the noise problem. Working on it today. Another question: the dishwasher is leaking. Do you have any videos investigating and fixing leaks? Thanks.
I am a 62 year young widow. This was easy to understand and follow. I completed it and am very proud of myself. Thank youn
We couldn't have done it without ya! Thank you!

Thanks buddy. Your instruction on how to dismantle and access the grinder were spot on.
Took me an hour to complete and saved me hundreds of dollars.

My Kenmore was making the exact same noise. You demonstrated the perfect fix!

What an excellent tutorial. If you weren’t a teacher, you may have missed your calling. Thank you so much. 🔥⚡️👍

Douglas, thank you for sharing such a clear video of how to disassemble the machine and fix the problem. It was exactly what I needed. Cheers to you!

Gave your video instructions a try and it sounds much quieter! Thanks
This sounds like it was narrated by John Malkovich! Great video

Oh my goodness, I successfully was able to do this (badly needed chore) all by myself!! Thank you for posting this clear and concise video!! 😊

Great video. Very complete in both disassembly and assembly.
Thank you. You were my expert guiding me through the process very well. The machine does not run totally quietly, but better than before.
Thanks very much for posting this, was a great help in resolving the same issue in my Kenmore 665.16593201 (or just 16593201)!
Thanks so much for the clear instructions! This fixed my 13113 perfectly. Only difference is that the 13113 has clips instead of screws for the tube.
Mine is a 665.1384 but I am going to try this tomorrow. Very well done video.

Thank you Douglas for your very helpful and well done video. I want you to know that, that kind of work is greatly appreciated!
Thank you for the very simple and detailed instructions. There was nothing in the grinder so unfortunately we still have a noise during washing cycle.
I still have the noise during the rince cycle😤
Spot on! Thank you.
Thank you for sharing and helping me save my dishwasher and some money.
Forceps are a handheld, hinged instrument used for grasping and holding objects.
Thank you sir, your video really saved my day.
Thank you for your video and helping me get more handy around the house. You also kept money in my pocket. Much appreciated sir!
Great video. I just fixed the same problem and saved a service call.
Very helpful, thanks. Mine is a Whirlpool but exactly the same, probably over 8 years old. I cleaned a lot of junk out of there and t still makes noise but not as bad. Maybe I can get another year out of it.
Thank you for this video! It works! We just fixed ours. 😊
Exactly what I needed - thanks!
thanks for the great video, just fixed my dishwasher!
Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks , I’m going to fix my machine now !!
THANK YOU!
Thanks for the video! Any advice on getting a new chopper in place? I bought a new one and can't get it seated
Needle-nosed forceps. Straight out of surgery 😂
is the door removal another video ?
Best video ever. Thanks
I fixed it! Many thanks.
Thanks so much!
Mine still making noise. How do I remove the chopping blade?

Should I turn off the electricity first?
The last tool you showed is a hemostat used by dentists. But ours has shorter handle. I have it because I'ma dentist.
I have a 665.16032403 -- Do you think the process is similar?
That did it. Thanks.
Come on guys be honest they're roach clips or were in my day.
Thank you. I thought they were called hemostats
my spinner would not go back on??? Yours just goes on nicely and you screw the plastic holder, but my won't sit down enough?
I just figured out you have to lift with the pliers while turning counter clockwise.
That tool is a hemostat used in surgery
It sounds like the capacitor is going out
Thanks my neighbour gave me 50$ for fixing her washer
Those are called forceps
Hemostats is what they are called
Surgical clamps!
forceps
A for effort. Ty.
