She was unhappy with some of the harder parts of our relationship and they just couldn't be fixed. We both tried to make it work for probably seven months longer than we should've. At first this song became bitter and sad to me after I broke up with her, but now I view it fondly, as I hope she's safe and well and living the best life she can, and this song reminds me of the good times we had.

That’s what I like about the early Dylan stuff. Or older music in general. Leaving in those little blemishes in great performances makes you feel the humanity in the music. When it’s squeaky clean it almost feels unnatural. To me, the sound of musicians sitting in a room together, playing in harmony with each other to create that one musical moment... that’s it. That’s music.
It turns into one of several lovely harmonies on Bob's part. There's another at 3:12. (technically, 3 : 13) It's pretty obvious they're just kind of making it up as they go along. And yeah... I love those kind of moments in recorded music.
Of all the things what i love most about this song is that special momement at 2.07 when Dylan almost says "remember me" while Cash has a differnt line. This is why Dylan ( and this song) is so special. It is so relatable. Something that we have always felt for a long lost friend but didnt have the skill to put into a song.
A tribute to a Minnesota girl. My wife too is from the north country. Beautiful Minnesota, a land that captivates all who call it home! Nobody does this song better than Bob... NO ONE.
This song really gets to the heart. It’s one of those songs you can listen to over and over and not get tired of listening to it. The voices of Bob Dylan and Johnny Cash are great together for this song.
Watching the movie "Silver Linings Playbook" and this song/duet came on. I forgot how incredible Dylan and Johnny's voices complimented each other on this song. Good music never dies.
The fact that Bob Dylan was from Duluth, this hits even harder. Reminds me of my college time up in Duluth and along the north shore with my girl. She’s now my wife.
If you're traveling till the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Remember me to one who lives there For she once was the true love of mine See for me if her hair's hanging down It curls and flows all down her breast See for me that her hair's hanging down That's the way I remember her best If you go when the snowflakes fall When the rivers freeze and summer ends Please see for me if she's wearing a coat so warm To keep her from the howlin' winds If you're traveling in the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Please say hello to the one who lives there For she once was a true love of mine And if you're traveling in the north country fair Where the winds hit heavy on the borderline Remember me to one who lives there For she once was a true love of mine True love of mine, a true love of mine True love of mine, a true love of mine A true love of mine, a true love of mine She was once a true love of mine

Humans have a capacity for terrible indifference and cruelty to each other. But we have to access the other side of life sometimes which is warm and loving and hopeful of our ultimate humanity. I listen to Dylan when I need to shake off the numbness and fugue of modern societal alienation and instead come back to an inner peace. And then I can cry for the loves of my life at 2 am listening to Bob.

This used to make my Daddy cry and I was too young to understand why. And then when I was older, later on, I thought perhaps it just made him emotional like many songs from this era did... And then, before he got really sick, he told me. This song, for him. was about the woman he wanted to marry. He knew her in this time just as he knew my mother but the woman who he loved first, there were reasons she didn't want to be married yet. He melted his high school ring down for her to make an engagement ring with the stone from it, a sapphire, and she kept it. Then my mother came along and he loved her. But it was so hard on him being married to her. And yet, he remained for nearly 50 years. And he died, my sweet Daddy, not holding my mother's hand and listening to her voice... But my hand and my voice. Now I cry hearing this song... Because I saw that woman and she still wears his ring.

When Bob Dylan wants to sing he gives it to you with both barrels. Then Cash gives you a taste of his voice. It's good to care about friends even if your not together. Even Bob's voice at its most rustic is telling a story about life. He is a true Nobel Laureate An American song and dance man.
This song makes me vividly picture a beautiful blonde gal on the shores of Lake Superior, lots of pine trees around, wool jacket blowing in the snowy winds, all in a 60s film grain picture. Masterpiece
Johnny cash’s vocals in this are so raw and beautiful and combining with Dylan is pure bliss, thank you American idol, about to listen to these men a lot more, this brings peace
Dylan has got to be the single most influential musician of the last 100 years. The Beatles changed the world as a group, but not so much individually. Go Bob!

That story might have more humanity in it than anything that I've ever heard. Thank you.
@@berachtdorian6191 I'm glad to share it. People ought to share the bittersweet moments of their lives, moreso perhaps than the good and bad ones. All are beautiful in their own way.
This is a Melancholy Song for me of a Never forgotten girl...
RIP My Sweetest Sweet Teresa..until we find eachother again...if it takes a thousand years
Thank You for sharing this
@@markschafer7510 much in the same light as my Daddy
For Me,one of the Most Soulful songs of All times. Doesn't hurt to be STONED!
I remember hearing this song, just once, MANY years ago, and I never forgot it. Life went on, and now I have time to listen to things .....How wonderful I can just tap a few keys now and listen to anything on youtube.
WoW, hits home 50 yrs. later, memories, still have them, thank God!
Silver lining playbook! This son is beautiful both are great!
Well, I'm from the North country! Born in Tioga n Dakota, lived in erskine Minn
And laurel Montana. Now in Denver. But wish I was a true love of either of these gentlemen!!! Lol
Masterpiece
The melody and the mix of their voices really capture the moments in time I hold in a memory. And at times it brakes ones heart.
Johnny cash’s vocals in this are so raw and beautiful and combining with Dylan is pure bliss, thank you American idol, about to listen to these men a lot more, this brings peace
Yeah they both wrote and recorded a lot of great songs.
This song has been in my head all day. Sounds so nostalgic and heartfelt. So cool to hear these 2 together.
Thanks bob for this lovely tune you and Jonny love it a true master peace
Johnny Cash wrote a fine appreciation of Bob Dylan's genius on the back of the original album cover.
Well worth a read.
I swear one day this will be the first dance with my husband at my wedding
How's that going? :0
Lizbeth, just make sure that he is your true love. Don’t settle, mija. Make sure that he’s a good man. No, a great man.
Yeh you got me with that comment . So when we getting married 😂
Was mine he is still is my one true love after 9 years
Why do you lame'os have to show up everywhere. Nobody cares
Dylan has got to be the single most influential musician of the last 100 years. The Beatles changed the world as a group, but not so much individually.
Go Bob!
Magic song. Good heaven Johnny! You had a great passage from earth.
This was my mother’s favorite Bob Dylan song. 😢😢 Makes me miss her. 💜💜💜💜💜
I've really grown to LOVE this entire album, certainly one of my favourites of his now.
I’m a North Country Girl! Love this song!
A student of mine suggested this song to me 12 years ago. I was already a Dylan fan but somehow missed this song. I've since found the original Dylan version and it's become a top 10 all time song for me.

Iconic song. I love it with all my heart. Their voices blend very well and speak to the soul.
One of the most beautiful love songs ever written. I've listened to it again and again over the years, and I sing and play in a key that suits my voice.
I listened to this song for the first time last night 3/9/2020. An absolutely beautiful song by these gentlemen.
Look up the cover the band The Lions did. Great rock version.
This was destined to be an epic classic.
