- Learn how to make a honey dipper in 15 minutes (give or take).
This is the speed at which Tim turns when the cameras are off, yet he still explains every step of the project from start to finish. You will see how he uses the roughing gouge, spindle gouge and parting tool to make a beautiful honey dipper.

Tim. you're the Bob Ross of woodturning
this guy kind of seems like the Bob Ross of wood turning
Edit: after exploring this channel, i found the joy of woodturning
Exactly what I was thinking
I wanted to write something similar, but there it is.:)
No mistakes, just happy little design changes
Nice job! A honey dipper was one of the first things I made when I started turning 2 years ago. They are fun and easy and it gave me the added challenge of turning most of it with a 1/2" skew chisel. Now I need to try it with a 3/8" spindle gouge. Thanks for sharing! 👍🏾
Beautiful. I just got my first lathe (Delta Midi) and i love it. Turned a little bowl & my wife loved it - now I'm a slave to the lathe. Great video. Thanks for sharing.
This is great! I can’t believe you did that all while explaining what you are doing. I just posted a video about how I make a honey dipper in under 5 minutes on my channel. I did no talking or teaching at all! I love that you put in the bee butt shaped handle and the burned details. Made me laugh and appreciate what an artist you are!
Awesome work and vid.man..thank you..greetings from the UK..
Your shop is really clean.
My Honey Dipper is bigger than yours.

I bought a small lathe today from Ebay and now I've found your videos I'm looking forward to using even more than I was!
Thats a beautiful honey dipper!! I wanna buy it
Nice one Tim, very enjoyable 14.10 minutes. Thanks
Mike
And a minute to spare, greta job👍👏👏👏😃
enjoyed that 👍👍
in all my wood working projects the #1 rule is don't rush. when people rush they make mistakes, and around tools like these small mistakes can have big consequences.
Good Job woodturner
Great little project there Tim...thanks for doing it..cheers Mick!!!
really cool idea
I look forward to more videos!
Thanks Tim. teaching my first Intro to Woodturning class in a few weeks. Will use your video to get them started on their first project
I’m going to be making a honey thing in my woodworking course, so this was really helpful. Thank you so much.
Thank you for this great video! Until today I didn't know that something like a 'honey dipper' existed and now I know how to make one!
Where I live (Netherlands) we have small honey jars with some kind of 'diaphragm', but after some googling I understand that honey dippers can be used with big jars.
Tim, your videos are always excellent. I have purchased several of your beginners DVDs and watch your shows on PBS. I like how you include your whoops now and then. I am learning. Thank you!
Very beautiful honey dipper
Great little project, Tim! Thanks!
Really like your videos Tim. Hope you continue to post this type of thing on TH-cam.
What a beautiful honey dipper. Yes, I want it. Loved the video. I have never seen a laith
Great natural demo, love it. :-)
Nice....!
Thanks for posting this! Awesome project, I have been having a wicked hard time with beards and coves and this is really neat to see in action.
Pretty good ❤😮
I really like using the metal wire guitar strings. You can usually get used strings for free from your local music shop. The different thicknesses of the strings give you a lot of different sized designs.
are you address
Nice work - as you said under 15 minutes! - and I seem to have rather a lot of walnut given to me! - Time to get to work!!!
Nice spoon of honey, a nice color of the wood. Regards
Amazing
Tim appreciate your efforts to promote turning. Watched all your shoes PBS, when is some new ones coming out. Best regards mike
You have rekindled my love of woodturning and I really enjoy the detail shown of the cuts used. Very enjoyable and relaxing. Thanks Tim.

I love it! "This is an advanced project .:) I will use that from now on when I do stuff like move the rest while its running. (I do that most of the time!) :)
Primeira vez que assisto um video assim. Como é bom ver pessoas com uma prática em torno, que podem fazer tudo o que vier a mente.Parabéns.
Ha Ha, just finished making one / great video / but catching it from the tailstock / took off flying. I am not used to taking off at the tailstock...so funny....fun project.
Just stumbled upon this, now I’m
Hooked lol
Incredible stuff mate!!
Watching this is very relaxing, why? lol
Visual ASMR perhaps? Try watching glass blowing works as well, those really clean up your mind.

I was playing a mobile game and saw a honey dipper so i just searched up honey dipper and here i am
Oh, that kind of honey dipper. Not what I had in mind.
you just earned a sub !
I can not get enough of your presentation's, you must be really good. I do have one question though have you every turned zebrawood into bottle stoppers or maybe handles for ice cream scoop's. I wanted try some but have been told it tears out easily. Any answers about what to do for this. Thanks Glen
Hello mate... God you make it look easy, would a skew be better for making those honey dippers. Please can you give an idiots guide to using the skew as well.
Max
The cameraman is literally thinking, "I wish I could have some honey right about now"
this one deserves a sub from me
'Advanced project' works for most of the times that one breaks the rules :^)
At least that is what I tell the emergency room doctor!
All joking aside, with a spindle turning that small the worst thing that could happen is that the tool rest scratches the spinning wood. Now if it was a piece of burl with voids I would stop the lathe when I moved the tool rest :^)
nice
You can see the wood geting smaller when he is scraping it
Mr.Red astute observation there, red
I am just a beginner and i like this video. What kind of mineral oil is oké if you use it for a honeydipper?
Why there's no learning playlist ?
We want turning but we don't know what!

Tim what is the best wire to make a burning wire out of. thanks
Dear, Tim. It was cool. Thank you. Could you please write the name of the oil you used , at the end? And also what are the best wood to make the honey dipper? Thanks
Nice Sir 👍 I'm just beginner what machine good for me to start working small projects ?
Hey few questions do hardness of woods effect cutting in general? I am trying to turn plugs cause I make custom ones out of African Paduk , Blood Wood , and Satin brazial wood. And they are so hard to turn sometimes. Like I will use a hole saw make a ruff circle I need then shape them accordingly. But I feel as if I am doing something horribly wrong. The ease that you have for cutting wood is amazing. Could you maybe give me some tips on this?
holy adhd batman
is the burning wire a special type of wire?
For a honey pot I know the outside might be done on a lathe but would i need to do the inside on a disc sander or maybe a potters wheel?
Hello there from South Africa
Thanks for showing and Sharing
Just one query though. Don't know what U Folks refer to as "Mineral Oil". Pardon our ignorance. Will this be BOILED LINSEED OIL ??
Do kindly confirm
TIA.

Mineral oil is made from petroleum. Not sure what they do to make it but it is food safe.
@@woodturningwithtimyoder Thankoooo !!!
why make the "heavier" part of the turning on the tail stock side? woodn't (get it?) it be better to turn the piece wit the dipper closer to the motor?
Thank you!
It is so small the weight doesnt really effect anything, but normally yes
Where's my cheerios?
I want to try wood turning so bad, but I don't know how to get started. Do you take classes? I haven't seen any classes in my area.
sweet vid though
Woow
+woodturningwithtim1 Made my first lathe project on a hand me down lathe, followed your tutorial here, seemed to work out pretty well. I'd show it to you but don't think I can put a pic in the comments.
Thanks for your channel!!
What type of wood should be avoided in making a honey dipper? Would Spanish cedar and mahogany be ok?
I would stick to a denser, more close grained wood. Cherry, apple, or any other fruit wood . Ash or beech also work well.
Can someone tell me the type of the wood?
I don't got it, but I've replayed it at least 3times :/
He is using walnut
5:36 "Walnut is very nice..."
dude reminds me of bob ross
what type of oil are you using at the end of the video?
Anyone know what kind of lathe he has?
advanced means can't get hurt right?
ops :D
good work good men good People.
mineral oil what brand please.
Generic from the drugstore ! :)
It's Walnut...Use Walnut Oil...??
Name of video: 15 minute project-honey dipper
Video time length: 14:10
who's watching in 2018?
Me
Camera man should have safety glasses as well! But other than that, great video!
he only has 1 set of safety equipment. he took the glasses, cameraman the ear protecters. :D
👍
I love your videos but the wood is not 1 inch square I did the same thing used 7 inch walnut and 1 inch thick just like you but is was way too thin when round so I used a 1 1/2 and 2 inch and it worked better
the timer is counting up but whatever
Yes, it was to know how long they were going.
If he already knew the exact time he was spending on the project he would have a countdown.
Since seeing in the future is not possible, and people wish to know how long they spent on a certain project, they use a timer. This times the duration...
Turn a wooden bowl from tree
Just mineral oil, which is a laxative and you can pick it up at any drug store. Really any hardwood would be could for a project like that.
