    Hi
    What a job... 🤦‍♂️
    So, came to me with the airbag light on, and after a scan, came up with a crash sensor fault... Error 01221.
    New sensor, worth more than the car... (ish...), and second hand, well, let's say is not that straight forward... but, I found a way round that...
    NOTE: Would like to point out, that when I initially changed the ID from 0D to 04, and that triggered a faulty sensor, could also be because on top of the ID, was other data, as I showed in the video, that was different... ence when I copied the data from the good sensor, it worked.
    Also, the eeprom from the original faulty sensor, could not be read... the chip was dead... so I could not copy that one...
    Follow me on this video to find out what was the problem and how to resolve it.

    man .... that`s a lot of work , in my numbers the charge for diagnosis , reading-writing the eeprom and open the airbag sensor, system final check , cost more than that Passat B5 old car .... but yet the repair information is priceless , thank you! :)

    Hard work this one but you got it mate... in the other video I had the impression that you’ve changed the 4.0 Id in three places, but you’ve created a dump from the original left hand side sensor and writing the whole data into the scrap yard one if I understood well 👍👍👍👍

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes... as I mentioned, looks like there is more than just the ID, perhaps if the sensor was exactly the same, and just the ID was different would work.
      But in this case, on top of the ID, was other data that was different...
      Thanks!

    This helped a lot with the same fault on my car. Thanks to your efforts I knew exactly where to find the EEprom without having to de-pot the whole thing.
    Same as you, the EEprom was unable to be read by the car reporting back nothing in software. I tried a second hand one with the same result as you, it was picked up by vehicle but reported back 04 instead of 01 in my case. When I changed this value and re-flashed it was then being recorded by software as 05? Which I think must be some kind of error, as no matter what value I changed it to, it always recorded 05. I think as others have commented, there must be a checksum. I even copied byte for byte the code you had on your sensor screenshot and I had the same 05 being recorded in software. In the end, I did as you did, removed the passenger side one and used the code from that to re-flash the drivers side which worked perfectly. What is also worth noting is that the passenger side had a "40" recorded on the EEprom in bytes 8 and 9, but yet is read back as 01 in software. Whilst this must have some bearing, I think there is more to it than meats the eye! But without your efforts I wouldn't have bothered, so thank you!

    Very good video! I have the same problem with one Passat. I will probably do the same: copy eeprom from good one to faulty side. But.... with all due respect to you - i think this solution is a litle bit wrong (sorry :(). When you cleared crash - you know exactly that you deleted unnecessary data like speed of impact, force of impact, numbers of airbags deployed etc. But in sensor eeprom I think is writed specificaly data which is closely related to the physical data of the sensor! For example: linearisation of sensor inside, threshold of working area. But this is my opinion.

And i have now the same problem what you did in this video. 4 crash sensors not correct . So uesd Airbag it will work without any problems just if its changed with original crash sensors for the same aftermarket Airbag.

    Super good job.
    It is sad that car manufacturer put in all these coding and crap. Any sensor with the right part number should do the job, without special coding crap.
    If the coding is for calibration, each sensor should have its own data, not the module itself.

    Do you still have that file from working 04 sensor? Would it be possible to upload it somewhere? I have read EEPROM data from the faulty sensor and copied it to one from scrap yard, but it now shows "faulty" on scrap yard one as well. So I guess, the content of EEPROM stores data about the status of the sensor.

    Epic results! I have now watched this video 6 times over two days and I think I am beginning to understand that I don't understand much at all. Please help out with a couple of questions.
    I googled about the chips, xproc and Willem. Willem resulted in many products, some obsolete, and there seems to exist a probability of me buying the wrong thing for about 40 - 70 quid. I live on the edge of Europe, probably more here.
    1) Would it make sense for me to even buy extra hardware to try and fix this?
    I have a gut feeling that a considerable amount of money will be spent on tools, but I may (or will) still inevitably get stuck.
    Perhaps for a person who has seen an EEPROM on pictures... it is a better idea to give up already and just buy the sensor from the dealer?
    (I do have interest to learn, but I have to pass inspection with the Passat this month or else. I think there's more than a month's worth of electronics that has to be learned.)
    1.1) Basically, in short, do I have to buy moderately expensive tools (and, then, which ones?) or are there very basic easy ways to connect the chip to a computer?
    2) If question 1 is a green go-ahead, how did you get the area so clean around the EEPROM?
    I doubt with a knife - that could damage the pcb.
    Thanks for the video and for your time if you can answer this!
    ** bonus question-idea: maybe consider making tutorials for beginners on how to connect similar chips to the computer and accomplish what you did. :)

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi
      For a one of use, I wouldn't spend the money...
      Buy the sensor from the dealer, although expensive, will still "cheaper" than the money you are going to spend on tools, plus the time and assle...
      If you have scrap yards around you, see if you can get a sensor from a car built the same year as yours... you might be lucky...
      Or online, if you have that facility...
      Obviously if you are willing to have a go at it, you can... it can be daunting if it is the first time doing anything like, be prepared for setbacks, etc...
      Hope you get yours sorted...

    Having owned a Volkswagen for about 6 months now, I've learned a LOT, and can 100%, without a shred of uncertainty, tell you what the problem is here.
    Answer-
    You bought a Volkswagen.
    Get rid of it and thank me later.

      Btw, I recommend you using the extension cable for OBD dongle. It gets damaged easy and it's expensive to replace.

    Everything is beautiful, but I would not like to have an accident with this car. Will you guarantee the owner that your action will not cause the pillows to fail in the event of an accident? And how does the insurer see the interference in the sensors and reject the claim for compensation?

      I can not remember right now, because i am not at home near my PC, but i think i was success to change sensor ID match in airbag module memory manually. You are go on another way of thinking and tried to change ID in sensor. But much easy way is to change sensor ID in airbag module memory.

    WASTE OF MONEY TO BUY A TABLET.YOU CAN DO JUST AS WELL WITH OBD2 INTERFACE WIH BLUETOOTH OR WIFI.tHE BEST IS THAT THE INTERFACE HAS A LEAD WITH USB THAT YOU PLUG DIRECT IN TO THE LAPTOP OR A PAD.tHE REAL TOOL IS THE OBD2 SOFTWARE THAT YOU DOWNLOAD TO THE PAD OR LAPTOP.

    A airbag sensor has a resister inside and a shock switch why did you not test it with a multimeter because its 99% just corroded connections as they get damp clean connections cover in grease give car back within a hour

    • @LMAutoRepairs
      @LMAutoRepairs  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Again you prove you dont know what you are talking about with comments like that...
      These are pressure sensors... very sensitive pressure sensors, that detect air pressure changes in case of an impact that deforms the chassis... is not resistors and switches...
      But why I'm explaining you that, you are very smart and know it all...
      🤣🤣🤣🤣
